Share Market Today: The Indian stock market is closed today, March 31, on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Mahavira, an important spiritual master of Jainism. There will be no trading today in segments like Equity, Derivatives and Securities Lending on both NSE and BSE during the closure of stock markets today.
In Commodity Market (MCX) the morning session will also remain closed, but the evening session will remain open from 5 pm. This is the first holiday of this week and then on April 3 (Friday) the markets will remain closed due to Good Friday. Due to two holidays in the same week, trading days have reduced. Both the exchanges have kept their holiday schedule the same, hence there will be no trading in equities, equity derivatives, currency derivatives or electronic gold receipts today. For retail investors and traders, this simply means that all transactions in the stock market will be completely closed in today’s session.
Will there be trading in the market tomorrow?
Business will resume from Wednesday, April 1. The new financial year (2026-27) is starting from tomorrow. In such a situation, buying and selling of shares will continue as usual. However, due to annual bank closing, this day has been marked as ‘Settlement Holiday’.
In simple words, this means that even though deals will take place, the actual transaction of money and shares between buyers and sellers will not be processed on that day. Instead, settlement will be postponed to the next working day. For those who trade actively, this delay may impact the availability of funds and delivery timelines.
