Indian captain Shreyas Iyer on Thursday praised his bowlers for taking advantage of the conditions here and said that the impressive win over Zimbabwe in the first T20 International will give his team the necessary confidence for the remaining matches of the series.
Bowling first, India registered an easy win by seven wickets with 40 balls remaining after restricting Zimbabwe to 125 runs for seven wickets.
Iyer described this performance as the effort of the entire team, although he admitted that batting was not entirely easy. After the match, Iyer said, “I think the boys played a tremendous game. I am very happy with my first victory. There was bounce from good length and it was uneven. I thought it was the same in both innings. The start given by Mayank was very good.
Shreyas came here after losing the series against Ireland and England under his captaincy. The captain said that India will benefit from this excellent start because two more matches are to be played on the same ground. He said, “We are going to play two more matches here, so today’s performance has given everyone some confidence.”
What did Captain Shreyas Iyer say on his first win as a captain, know to whom he gave the credit for the victory?
Iyer also supported young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi and said that knowing the situation will benefit the young player. He said, “Vaibhav has played here. He had scored 175 runs in the Under-19 World Cup final, so he knows the conditions here.
15-year-old Indian batsman Suryavanshi became the youngest player in the world to score a half-century in men’s international cricket. He achieved this milestone in just 18 balls.
Player of the match Mayank Yadav (2 wickets for 18 runs) said that he enjoyed bowling on a pitch where the fast bowlers were getting help. “It always feels great when you contribute to a win, so this was a very special moment for me,” he said.
Iyer said, “The pitch was very good. After playing in India, I was enjoying bowling here. This is my first visit to Zimbabwe. I got a lot of help from bounce and seam movement.
‘There is strength in education’, Shubman Gill said on student movement, Irfan Pathan said- Any paper is leaked…
Prince Yadav (two wickets for 19 runs) also impressed with his bowling. He said that despite the difficult conditions, the bowlers stuck to their plan. He said, “I am very happy with our performance but the more important thing is that we won the match.” When we bowled on good line and length, the pitch also helped.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza admitted that his team did not live up to expectations. He said that the effect of morning moisture was more than expected. “The performance was not as per expectations,” he said. The effect of humidity was visible in the morning, but I did not expect that it would affect for so long.
Raza said, “In the last eight overs and when India came out to bat, the wicket was playing very well.” However, Raza counted some positives from this match, especially the performance of some of the batsmen who were given new roles.
He said, “We tried some batsmen in new roles and they performed well, so yes, there were some positives also.”
