Gratitude to the people of Bengal: Amit Shah
Addressing the BJP legislature party meeting in Kolkata, Home Minister Amit Shah said, ‘First of all, I want to express my deep gratitude to the people of Bengal with folded hands. The atmosphere created by the communist government was further deepened by Mamata Banerjee and it was almost impossible to vote there. I am very grateful for the huge victory that the people of Bengal have given us by reposing faith in BJP and our leader Narendra Modi.

Shubhendu Adhikari will leave one seat
Shubhendu Adhikari emerged as the main face of BJP in the West Bengal elections, winning both Nandigram and Bhawanipur, the stronghold of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. Subhendu Adhikari, who won Bhawanipur and Nandigram seats, said that he will resign from one of these seats within 10 days. “I will vacate one seat within 10 days,” he said. The party will decide which seat I will retain. Whatever personal opinion I have, I will convey it to the leadership. I will not forget my responsibility towards the people of Bhawanipur and Nandigram.
Shubhendu’s new political chapter begins
Bhawanipur has started a new political chapter for Shubhendu Adhikari. He dented the Trinamool supremo’s political clout by defeating Mamata Banerjee by more than 15,000 votes in this South Kolkata assembly constituency and gave the BJP a major psychological success along with its electoral victory in the state. For BJP, Adhikari’s victory in Bhawanipur is more important than electoral mathematics. A leader from East Medinipur defeating Mamata Banerjee in her own political stronghold became one of the most important images of BJP’s success in Bengal.
While addressing the party workers and supporters, Shubhendu Adhikari has appealed that they should not take out the victory procession immediately and instead maintain restraint till the swearing-in ceremony of the new government on May 9.
