Stock Market Today: The first trading day of the week in the Indian stock market, Monday, April 20, had a positive start. Major benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 opened trading in the green. However, strong movement started in the stock market in the early trading itself. Sensex and Nifty slipped into the red but soon after they regained their shine.
The 30-share BSE Sensex index opened with a rise of 139.36 points or 0.18 percent. Sensex started the day at the level of 78,632.90. At the same time, NSE Nifty 50 also started the day positive. Nifty 50 jumped 37.95 points or 0.16 percent and opened at the level of 24,391.50.
By around 9:20 am, the Sensex was trading at 78,549 points, up by 55 points. Whereas Nifty 50 had jumped 7 points and was trading at the level of 24,360.
BSE’s top gainers and losers
Trent, SBIN, ICICI Bank, Adani Port and L&T were the top gainers from the BSE basket. Talking about the top losers, they were HDFC Bank, Kotak Bank, Reliance and Tata Steel.
How was the market on Friday?
There was tremendous growth in the Indian stock market on the trading day of Friday, 17th April. Major benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 ended the day trading in the green. Sensex closed at 78,493.54 points with a rise of 504.86 points or 0.65 percent, while NSE Nifty 50 closed at 24,353.55 points with a rise of 156.80 points or 0.65 percent.
PowerGrid, Reliance, Adani Port, Titan and Tech Mahindra were the top gainers from the BSE basket. Talking about the top losers, Sun Pharma, Mahindra & Mahindra, HCL Tech, L&T and Eternal were there.
A rise was seen in the shares of Nifty 100, Nifty Auto, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Bank, Nifty Smallcap 100, Nifty Midcap 100. At the same time, a decline was recorded in Nifty IT shares. On Friday’s trading day, 24 shares from BSE basket closed in the green and 6 shares recorded a decline.
