Taking a major administrative decision, the West Bengal government has issued an order to terminate the services of nominated members, directors and chairpersons appointed in all non-statutory bodies, boards and public undertakings of the state with immediate effect. Along with this, the appointments of officers who are on re-appointment or service extension after crossing the retirement age of 60 years have also been abolished.

This order was issued by the State Home and Hill Affairs Department. According to the order, this decision will be considered effective immediately and instructions have been given to the concerned departments to take necessary action.

Under the official order (No. 861-Home(Cons)) issued from Nabanna, the state government has made major changes in the administrative system and taken many important decisions. The purpose of this order, issued on the instructions of the Chief Minister, is said to be to increase transparency and accountability in the administration.

Apart from this, instructions have also been given to immediately terminate the services of officers working on re-appointment or extension of service after completing the retirement age of 60 years. The Home Department has asked all the concerned departments and institutions to ensure immediate implementation of the order.

According to government sources, the state government is taking steps towards making comprehensive changes in the administrative structure and ensuring accountability. It is believed that in many boards and public undertakings, the way for new appointments is being prepared by removing officers and political appointees who have been serving for a long time on extension of service. Although the detailed reasons behind this decision have not been given officially by the government, but in political circles it is being linked to the administrative and political strategy in the times to come.
