Air India flight AI-171, going from Ahmedabad, Gujarat to London, fell on the ground as soon as it took off on June 12, 2025 last year. It has been a year since this accident, but the questions regarding the investigation are still not over. India’s pilot organization Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has now written a letter to the government investigation agency AAIB saying that some figures in the investigation report do not seem correct.

What is the real issue?

Actually, there is an emergency power device in the aircraft, which is called RAT. It is a small turbine, which comes out of the aircraft and provides emergency supply of electricity. It was said in the investigation report that the RAT started working within 4 to 5 seconds of fuel interruption, but when the team of American lawyers conducted the same test on the simulator of Boeing-787, it found that in reality it takes about 18 seconds to work.

Why is this difference important?

FIP says that if the timing of the report is correct, it means that the RAT had come out even before the pilot had touched any switch. Simply put, something went wrong with the plane while it was hitting the runway or even before that. It has also been claimed in the footage of a camera that the RAT was visible outside even before taking off.

There were signs even before this

On this day, Air India Flight AI171, departed Ahmedabad Airport at 13:38 local time on a scheduled service to London Gatwick, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members.

FIP also said that the plane’s computer systems were sending malfunction messages from 7:53 a.m., about 14 minutes before takeoff. These messages related to power system, hydraulics and flight controls are called ACARS. The surviving passenger also said that he had heard a loud noise and the cabin lights had dimmed.

What did FIP demand?

The pilot organization wants AAIB itself to conduct tests on the Boeing-787 simulator and a representative of FIP should also be present there. Also, the complete video of the security camera of Ahmedabad Airport should be given to FIP. Apart from this, it should also be investigated that even though Air India itself had the simulator, why did it not give this information to AAIB?

This letter has also been sent to the Civil Aviation Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and DGCA. However, no official response has yet come from AAIB and Air India on this.

Today has completed one year since the crash of Air India Airlines flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on June 12, 2025. In this plane crash, 241 out of 242 passengers present in the plane and 19 people present on the ground i.e. a total of 260 people lost their lives. The investigation is still going on even after a year to find out the exact reason behind this accident.

At the same time, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the agency investigating the accident, has expressed grief towards the families of those killed in the accident on the completion of one year of the incident and said that the investigation in the matter is still going on.

What information did AAIB give regarding the investigation?

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has officially issued a statement on the completion of one year of the accident. In the statement, AAIB said that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the rules and international standards. The first report of the accident came on July 12, 2025, in which only the facts were stated.

Further technical investigation will be conducted where necessary, so that every outcome is based on solid evidence. However, the agency has not given any date on when the final report will come. AAIB has only said that the final report will be released only after the entire investigation work and review required under international rules is completed.

A chartered Learjet 45XR aircraft crashed during landing in Baramati on the morning of 28 January 2026. Five people, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, lost their lives in this accident. It was a VIP flight and had two pilots, one cabin crew and two passengers. The plane was attempting to land at Baramati airfield at around 8:46 am.

Initial investigation revealed how the plane crashed?

Investigation revealed that Baramati is an uncontrolled airfield where flying is allowed only under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and for this a minimum visibility of 5 kilometers is required, but at that time the visibility from the tower was reported to be about 3 kilometers, that is, the weather was below the standards. There was also light fog and mist like situation in the area. In the first attempt, the pilot tried to land on Runway 11, but later did a go-around and circled again. For the second time also the aircraft took approach to runway 11. The tower gave permission for landing saying ‘winds calm’.

The pilot reported seeing the runway, but a few seconds later a panicked sound was heard from the cockpit. Soon after this the plane hit the ground about 50 meters left of the runway. Before the collision, the plane hit trees and then fell on the sloping ground below. After the accident, a massive fire broke out in the plane. The entire cockpit and cabin were destroyed by fire. All five people on board the plane died in this accident.

Preliminary investigation by AAIB has revealed that there was no modern navigation facility at the airfield, there was no permanent weather system and the runway markings were also very faded. Visibility was also below VFR standards. Data from the flight data recorder has been extracted and the cockpit voice recorder is being analyzed. The exact cause of the accident will become clear only after the final report comes, but initial indications suggest that low visibility and limited airfield facilities could be important factors in this accident.

Investigating agency recommended to DGCA

1. VFR rules should be strictly followed at uncontrolled airfields.
2. Meteorological facilities (MET) and landing aids should be improved.
3. Such airfields should be brought under regulated licensing.
4. There should be regular audit of runway and safety standards.

Last year, 260 people died in the horrific accident of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat. After this horrific plane crash, the concerned agencies started a thorough investigation into the matter. However, during the investigation of the plane crash, some speculations emerged, which said that the pilot of the plane had deliberately caused this horrific plane crash. On which the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has issued a statement on Thursday (February 12, 2026) and given clarification.

What did AAIB say in the official statement?

AAIB said in its official statement that a thorough investigation into the horrific Air India plane crash case in Ahmedabad has not yet been completed and no final result has been reached. In such a situation, it would not be right to blame any person or cause in this matter before the final outcome.

The investigating agency said that in some media reports it is being claimed that the investigation into the accident has been completed, but these reports are wrong and based on speculation. People have been appealed to wait only for the official statement and the final report of the investigation in this serious matter.

The final result will come after confirming all the facts – AAIB

Reiterating this, AAIB said that the matter is being investigated in a professional manner and with complete transparency. The situation in the investigation is under review and the final official outcome will be announced only after the relevant facts are confirmed. Because plane crash investigation is a very complex and technical process. In this, flight data recorder, review of cockpit voice recorder, technical inspection, weather conditions along with many other aspects are thoroughly examined. In such a situation, it would be premature to reach any decision before the completion of the investigation.

AI171 Crash: Italy’s famous newspaper Corriere Della Sera has made a big claim regarding the horrific accident of Air India flight AI171. According to the newspaper, Indian investigative agencies can tell in their last report that this accident happened when a pilot present in the cockpit deliberately closed the fuel switches.

Quoting West Aviation agencies, it has been said that no technical fault has been found so far in the investigation. According to the report, the cockpit voice recording also revealed which pilot had closed the fuel switches. This Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight of Air India was going from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick. This aircraft was being flown by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and co-pilot Captain Clive Kunder.

The plane fell just after take off

This accident happened on June 12 last year, when the plane fell just seconds after taking off. A total of 241 passengers and crew members were killed in this accident, while 19 people died when the plane collided with a medical college building. 53 people on board the plane were British citizens. Only one passenger survived this accident, whose name is Vishwas Kumar Ramesh.

‘The responsibility may go to the captain’

In its report on Tuesday (February 10), Corriere Della Sera quoted Western sources and wrote that the responsibility for this accident can be put on Captain Sumeet Sabharwal. According to the report, investigation revealed that the left engine was switched off first. Since the captain always sits on the left seat in the plane, suspicion falls on him only. After this the right engine also stopped. The newspaper also wrote that when the accident occurred, co-pilot Clive Kunder’s control stick was in the position of trying to raise the plane, while the captain’s control stick was stable.

What was found in the black box recording?

According to the report, the flight data recorder i.e. black box of the aircraft also leads the suspicion towards Captain Sumeet Sabharwal. In the black box recording, one pilot is heard asking the other, ‘Why did you stop the engines?’ In response to this the second pilot says, ‘I did not do this.’ Sources who spoke to the Italian newspaper say that in the final report of the accident, the matter can be written in milder terms, so that no major controversy arises in India.

A source said, ‘It is now accepted that if any one pilot is held responsible, it is being seen as a necessary sacrifice.’ However, sources also say that the purpose of the report is not to blame anyone, but to improve the aviation sector and reduce the number of accidents.

There will also be mention of the health and mental condition of the pilots.

According to the newspaper, the final report may also mention issues related to the physical and mental health of the pilots. It is being told that the decision to make the investigation report public will be taken after talks between the Civil Aviation Ministry of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Who is investigating?

India’s Aircraft Accidents Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is investigating this accident. America’s National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), aircraft manufacturing company Boeing and engine manufacturing company GE Aerospace are also involved in this investigation.

It has also been said that there may be a question of reconsidering the safety rating of Indian Airlines from the Western countries, which is said to be in danger of affecting the image of India, especially when the country is continuously investing in air travel, tourism and trade.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said on Sunday (July 20, 2025) that the government should wait for the final report before reaching any conclusion in the aircraft accident in Ahmedabad.

Kinjarapu said, ‘I have full faith in the Bureau of Accident Investigation (AAIB) and their work. He has done a commendable job of decoding the entire black box and providing data in India itself. Along with this, Kinjarapu targeted the Western media and said that there may be some wrong intention in the kind of articles that such media is publishing.

Black box is sent abroad for data

He further said that whenever the black box was found to be damaged in plane accidents, it was always sent abroad to get the data, but this is the first time that AAIB decoded everything here. This is a big success for the country of India.

Minister Kinjarapu said that it would be wrong to draw any conclusions before the investigation and there should be no comment on it. Whatever steps have to be taken in terms of security, we are fully prepared for it.

What was revealed in the first report?

A total of 260 people died in the Air India aircraft accident on 12 June 2025 and AAIB is investigating it. Aircraft number AI-171 going from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick collided with a building immediately after flying. Now only after receiving the final report of AAIB, it will be revealed how this big accident happened with the aircraft.

According to the preliminary inquiry report, a few seconds before the crash, the fuel control switches of both engines of the aircraft were closed. Preliminary investigation reports of 15 pages of the accident revealed that the fuel control switches of both engines were cut off from ‘run’ within a second, due to which the aircraft suddenly started coming down.

Aaib air india plane crash report: On the ongoing investigation on the Air India aircraft accident, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) issued a statement on Thursday, saying that the investigation is still not complete, so it is too early to reach any conclusion. The bureau has said that the final report will be made public on time with the real causes and necessary recommendations of the accident.

Technical and public interest will be given from time to time
Aaib said that technical aspects and important information related to public interest will be released from time to time, but the media should wait for the official inquiry report and avoid reporting without confirmation.

Honor the sensitivity of the families of the dead
Aaib also emphasized in its statement that the sentiments of passengers killed in the plane crash, crew members and family members of the people who lost their lives should be respected.

Air India Plane Crash: The preliminary investigation report of Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad in Ahmedabad has come out. This report has revealed that in 2018, US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a special aircraft information bulletin (Saib No. NM-18-33) and warned about the possible problem of the removal of the locking feature of fuel control switch in Boeing aircraft. This bulletin was also involved in the planes like B787-8. Was.

What is the problem of locking feature of fuel control switch?
The fuel control switch locking feature is a safety system that prevents unintentional operation between fuel supply and cut-offs of the aircraft engine. The FAA report said that if this locking feature becomes inactive, then the switch can be replaced between the two positions (On and Off) without picking up the switch, which can lead to a serious event like unknowing engine shutdown.

FAA reported ignored
The report also stated that this warning of FAA was not mandatory, but was only advisory, so inspections related to it were not done. This is an important point, because if it had been investigated in time, the accident could have been avoided. Retired pilot Captain Ehsan Khalid of IAF said that the fuel cut-off switch is run physically by the pilot, it is not automatic. He said, ‘If the movement of the fuel cut-off switch has been recorded, then it is a sign of an attempt by the pilot to resume the engine. But the truth is that the power of the engine itself was closed, the pilot did not give any input, it is clear from the report.

What is in the preliminary report of AAIB?
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released a 15 -page preliminary report a month after the accident, which describes the preliminary investigation and the situation so far. The AI171 aircraft, which was going from Ahmedabad to Gatwick from London, collided with a medical hostel complex shortly after the takeoff. Only one of the 241 passengers could survive in this accident.

The report said that debris investigation, postmortem report and investigation of parts are still going on. So far no recommendation has been issued for B787-8 aircraft or GE GENX-1B engine operators.

Air India and Boeing are cooperating
Air India has said that it is fully supporting the investigation, and Boeing said that it will allow AAIB to share information under the Unnex 13 protocol of the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Ahmedabad air india plane crash: The preliminary inquiry report of the accident that occurred a month after the Air India aircraft accident in Ahmedabad has revealed that the engine fuel switches from ‘run’ came to ‘cutoff’ only a few seconds after flying. This 15 -page report has been given by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Saturday (July 12, 2025).

In the voice recording of the cockpit, one pilot was heard asking the other, ‘Why did you do the cutoff?’ The second pilot replied, ‘I did not turn off.’ The cutoff case is being considered important in the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 accident on June 12, 2025. Shortly thereafter, the switch of both the engines of the aircraft going to London became cut off from Run.

What was told in the report?

787 Dreamliner and other commercial aircraft have more than enough strength to fly from the same engine and pilots are fully prepared for this phenomenon. The report said that when the aircraft is flying and the fuel control switch is taken from the cutoff.

The EAFR recording sent a Mayday alert soon after the closure was closed a few seconds. Air traffic control inquired about the call sign. He did not get any response, but then he saw the aircraft crashing outside the airport boundary.

What came about the pilot?

The plane filled with 54,200 liters of fuel started coming down fast and collided with the hostel of the medical college. Due to the fire on the plane, all the others except 1 out of 242 people were killed. This aircraft remained in the air for only 32 seconds.

Captain Sumit Sabharwal of this aircraft had an 8,200 -hour flight experience. He was accompanied by first officer Clive Kunder, who had a flying experience of 1,100 hours. The report states that both pilots were medically healthy and enough experienced.
