In which states were most colleges closed?

Maximum 12 colleges each have been closed in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. After this, 8 colleges have been closed in Madhya Pradesh. 4-4 colleges have been closed in Telangana and Punjab, 3-3 in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, while 2-2 colleges have been closed in Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. One college each has also been closed in Haryana, Odisha, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

Why were the colleges closed?

AICTE says that the number of students in many colleges was continuously decreasing for a long time. Many places did not have qualified teachers and some institutions were not able to provide the necessary facilities and even meet the prescribed rules. Even after giving repeated chances, there was no improvement, hence the decision was taken to close these colleges.

Will the studies of students already studying stop?

AICTE has clearly said that there will be no impact on the studies of students already studying. These colleges will not take admission only for new students. Old students will complete their studies and will also get their degree on time.

Under this decision, colleges are being closed gradually. That is, the admission of new students is stopped, but the students who are already studying are made to complete their studies, this is called ‘progressive closure’.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is working rapidly towards providing books of all engineering diplomas and degree courses in 12 Indian languages ​​by December 2026, taking a big and historical initiative. Main subjects like civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and computer science have been included in these books.

Pro. Sitaram says that these books have been specially prepared in such a way that students can easily understand the complex engineering concept in their mother tongue. Every chapter includes objective, result -based teaching technology and practice questions, which makes studies more systematic and understandable.

AICTE is taking the help of AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence to speed up this work. A deep learning model now translates a book to an accurate translation of up to 80% in just 10 minutes, which the experts later finalize.

Not necessary

AICTE has clarified that it will not be necessary to study students in mother tongue, this is just an option, especially for those students who are not comfortable in studying in English. This facility can prove to be very helpful, especially for students coming from rural background.

The challenge of employment is also revealed
However, students studying in regional language may face challenges in employment opportunities, but Prof. Sitaram believes that as higher education is possible in local languages ​​in Canada and Switzerland, this model can be successful in India as well.
