Vice Chancellor of Delhi University Prof. Yogesh Singh got another chance, will handle the responsibility of VC for the second consecutive time

For the first time in the history of Delhi University (DU), a Vice Chancellor has got the second consecutive term. Union Education Ministry Prof. Yogesh Singh has been re-appointed Vice Chancellor of Delhi University for the next five years. His new tenure will start from 8 October 2026. It is believed that due to many major decisions related to education and administration in the last tenure, he has been given this responsibility again.

Till now, no Vice-Chancellor has been appointed for the second consecutive time in Delhi University. A few years ago, the rules of the University were changed, after which the way was opened for giving a second term to the Vice-Chancellor. Under this rule, Prof. Yogesh Singh has become the first Vice Chancellor to achieve this feat. This decision is being considered an important milestone in the history of DU.

Took over the responsibility of Vice Chancellor in 2021

Pro. Yogesh Singh took charge as the 23rd Vice Chancellor of Delhi University on 8 October 2021. In the last five years, he initiated many major changes in the university. Many important decisions were taken towards modernizing the education system, introducing new facilities for students and making the administration more transparent.

The new education policy was implemented rapidly

The biggest achievements of his tenure include the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). During this time, a four-year undergraduate program (FYUP) was started in Delhi University. Along with this, students also started getting new facilities like multiple entry and exit. The purpose of this change was to make education more flexible and better for employment.

CUET makes admission process easy and transparent

Earlier, admission in Delhi University was based on board exam marks and cutoff. But Prof. During the tenure of Yogesh Singh, major changes were made in the admission process and admission started through CUET. Due to this, students across the country started getting equal opportunities and the admission process became more transparent than before.

In the last five years, the university also paid special attention to strengthening the digital system. The examination system was digitalized, Academic Bank of Credit was implemented and many online facilities were started for students. Along with this, work was also done at a rapid pace on many infrastructure projects including campus development and new buildings.

Recruitment of teachers gained momentum

Work was also done rapidly towards filling the posts of teachers lying vacant for a long time in Delhi University. Appointments of permanent teachers started in many colleges and departments, which strengthened studies and research work. Students got the benefit of this in the form of better educational environment.

Has long experience in both education and administration

Pro. Yogesh Singh has long experience in both the fields of education and administration. Before coming to Delhi University, he had been the Vice Chancellor of Delhi Technological University (DTU). Apart from this, he has also worked as the Director of Netaji Subhash University of Technology (formerly NSIT) and Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda. At present he also has the additional charge of Chairman of AICTE.

Expectations increased from second term

After becoming the Vice Chancellor for the second consecutive time, the expectations of students and teachers have also increased. It is believed that in the coming years, the university will pay more attention to research, digital education, international cooperation, modern facilities and employment-based education. Also, work will continue towards implementing the new education policy more effectively.
