The process of technical disturbances in the aircraft flying in India does not seem to stop. From the year 2021 till now (July 2025), more than 2000 technical flaws from different airlines of the country were reported to DGCA. This information was given by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in response to a question asked in Parliament.

The most shocking thing in these figures is that the highest faults were recorded in the flights of Air India and Air India Express. In the year 2024, more than 250 technical problems came to light in the flights of Air India Group. It is clear from this that the country’s oldest airline needs to pay more attention to its technical system.

Most flaws are fine before flight

Technical flaws i.e. when the plane causes problems such as engine malfunctions, software fault, landing gear disturbances, and system alert during flight. However, DGCA says that most of the flaws were corrected before the flight and there was no compromise on the safety of the passengers.

Now DGCA intensively examines all these flaws and instructs the airlines to take corrective steps.
1. Spot check
2. Night surveillance
3. Flight recording and report check

International agencies started adopting FAA Standards

Apart from this, DGCA has also started adopting the standard of international agencies FAA (US Federal Aviation Agency) to further strengthen security. Along with technical disturbances, the data of complaints of air travelers is also not low. In 2023, DGCA had received more than 5500 complaints, while in 2025 so far (till July 14), around 3900 complaints have been filed.

These complaints are usually associated with delays, trouble refund problems, poor customer service and lack of convenience during flight. DGCA starts the process of solution by transporting these complaints to the airlines, but still there is dissatisfaction among the passengers.

1. Total technical flaws (2021–2025): 2000+
2. Most complaints: Air India+Air India Express
3. Technical flaws in the year 2025: 183
4. 250+ malfunctions in Air India Group flights in 2024
5. Complaints of passengers received in 2023: 5513
6. So far in 2025 (till 14 July): 3925 complaints

It is clear that efforts of the government and DGCA are going on, but both the safety and satisfaction of the passengers will be affected until the airlines improve the ground level.

The Ahmedabad Air India aircraft accident on June 12 has not only affected the passengers, but has also made a profound impact on the airline employees, especially the pilots. After this accident, mental pressure has increased in the pilots of Air India, due to which the number of holidays taken due to illness has increased rapidly.

Just four days after the accident, 112 pilots reported to be ill on 16 June. These included 61 first officers (co-pilots) and 51 commanders (chief pilots). This situation is not only a matter of concern for Air India, but has become a serious issue for the entire aviation industry.

DGCA issued important instructions to Airlines

In view of the increasing mental pressure in the pilots, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued important instructions to all airlines. DGCA has advised that airlines should start special training related to mental health for their flight crew, ie pilots and co-pilots as well as air traffic controllers (ATCOS).

The purpose of this training is to recognize and solve mental health problems. Also, DGCA has suggested airlines to create a system in which employees can increase each other’s cooperation.

Civil Aviation Minister responded in Parliament

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, while replying to the issue in Parliament, said that mental health is an important part of security in the aviation industry. He informed that DGCA has instructed all airlines to promote mental health awareness for their employees. In this, emphasis will be laid on the employees dealing with stress, understanding mental health problems and encouraging time to seek help on time.

The Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft of Air India going from Ahmedabad to London had a crash, in which more than 260 people lost their lives. The aircraft crashed into a medical college campus 32 seconds after the take-off. The investigation of this accident is still going on.

Aaib air india plane crash report: On the ongoing investigation on the Air India aircraft accident, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) issued a statement on Thursday, saying that the investigation is still not complete, so it is too early to reach any conclusion. The bureau has said that the final report will be made public on time with the real causes and necessary recommendations of the accident.

Technical and public interest will be given from time to time
Aaib said that technical aspects and important information related to public interest will be released from time to time, but the media should wait for the official inquiry report and avoid reporting without confirmation.

Honor the sensitivity of the families of the dead
Aaib also emphasized in its statement that the sentiments of passengers killed in the plane crash, crew members and family members of the people who lost their lives should be respected.

Air India Plane Crash: There is deep concern in the pilot community about the preliminary investigation report of the AI-171 aircraft accident. Air Safety Expert Captain Amit Singh, while questioning the credibility of the report, said that it is not clear at what time the engine stopped working.

According to the report, 08:08:42 Fuel control switch was ‘cut off’ after UTC, but in the same report, Ram Air Turbine (RAT) has been said to be active soon after the takeoff. He said that a simple, initial report based on facts would have been sufficient, but this report is creating doubt and confusion.

“Who shut down the fuel control switch?” -ALPA-I President
Captain Sam Thomas, president of the airline pilots Association of India (ALPA-I), said that it is a very shocking thing that there was a discussion among the pilots in the cockpit that ‘Who shut down the fuel control switch’. He also questioned why the Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) did not work after the accident. Sam Thomas expressed concern over the absence of an authorized signature on the report and the confidentiality of the investigation process. He reiterated that qualified and experienced pilots should be included in the investigation as a minimum observer, so that transparency and accountability remains.

“Pilot deliberately shut fuel” – Captain Ranganathan
Former Boeing 737 Commander and Instructor Captain Mohan Ranganathan claimed that the pilot deliberately shut down the fuel control switch. He said that first the right and then the left engine failed a few seconds, which is clear that the switches were closed one after the other. He described the report as ‘vague’ and termed its interpretation as suspicious.

“Boeing’s silence does not mean system” – Senior Commander
A senior Boeing commander said on the condition of anonymity that arguing that the pilot was the fuel cut off because Boeing did not issue any warning – this argument is wrong. He said that there is no proof of the security of the system, not issuing warnings by any company. Many times the serious design flaws have been accepted only when many accidents have happened. Giving the example of the Lion Air accident of Boeing 737 Max in 2018, he said that the pilots were first convicted at that time.

The UK Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) said on Saturday (July 12, 2025) that it was reviewing the initial report of the Indian Air Accident Investigation Bureau of Indian Air Accident Investigation in the case of flight number AI 171 of AIDabad to Ahmedabad to London last month.

The Report of the Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation (AAIB) report is based on the initial findings of their investigation into the accident. In this accident, all except one of 242 people aboard the aircraft died. It was the most horrific aircraft accident in a decade.

52 British citizens died on aircraft

Britain’s AAIB is also part of the investigation process, as 52 British citizens aboard the aircraft were also killed in this accident. Britain’s AAIB said in a statement, “UK AAIB welcomes this preliminary report, a summary of the factual information revealed by AAIB India so far.”

It said, ‘British AAIB is reviewing this preliminary report in detail and is in touch with India’s AAIB. According to the International Protocol, the right to issue information related to investigation is completely with the Indian officials.

This thing happened between the pilot

Preliminary investigation reports of 15 pages of the accident revealed that the fuel control switches between the two engines had gone into a ‘cutoff’ position from ‘run’ in a interval of a second, which led to an immediate decrease in the height of the aircraft. According to the report, in recording the voice of the cockpit, a pilot is heard asking why he stopped the fuel, on which the other pilot refuses to close fuel.

British families who lost their loved ones in the June 12 accident have demanded representation of experts in the investigation process. London’s legal firm ‘Keston Law’ welcomed the report. Keystone’s airline James Heli-Protte said, “Families have now understood that there is a more comprehensive scope of investigation, but one of their biggest concerns is that they have been excluded from this safety investigation.”

British and America also ahead for help

He said, ‘Not only Indian AAIB, British AAIB is also helping and American. Therefore ideally, the families of the afflicted should be included in some form or the other. Out of 53 British citizens riding on the aircraft, only one passenger named Vishwas Kumar Prakash, sitting on seat number 11A, survived the accident that took place last month.

Air India Plane Crash: The preliminary investigation report of Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad in Ahmedabad has come out. This report has revealed that in 2018, US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a special aircraft information bulletin (Saib No. NM-18-33) and warned about the possible problem of the removal of the locking feature of fuel control switch in Boeing aircraft. This bulletin was also involved in the planes like B787-8. Was.

What is the problem of locking feature of fuel control switch?
The fuel control switch locking feature is a safety system that prevents unintentional operation between fuel supply and cut-offs of the aircraft engine. The FAA report said that if this locking feature becomes inactive, then the switch can be replaced between the two positions (On and Off) without picking up the switch, which can lead to a serious event like unknowing engine shutdown.

FAA reported ignored
The report also stated that this warning of FAA was not mandatory, but was only advisory, so inspections related to it were not done. This is an important point, because if it had been investigated in time, the accident could have been avoided. Retired pilot Captain Ehsan Khalid of IAF said that the fuel cut-off switch is run physically by the pilot, it is not automatic. He said, ‘If the movement of the fuel cut-off switch has been recorded, then it is a sign of an attempt by the pilot to resume the engine. But the truth is that the power of the engine itself was closed, the pilot did not give any input, it is clear from the report.

What is in the preliminary report of AAIB?
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released a 15 -page preliminary report a month after the accident, which describes the preliminary investigation and the situation so far. The AI171 aircraft, which was going from Ahmedabad to Gatwick from London, collided with a medical hostel complex shortly after the takeoff. Only one of the 241 passengers could survive in this accident.

The report said that debris investigation, postmortem report and investigation of parts are still going on. So far no recommendation has been issued for B787-8 aircraft or GE GENX-1B engine operators.

Air India and Boeing are cooperating
Air India has said that it is fully supporting the investigation, and Boeing said that it will allow AAIB to share information under the Unnex 13 protocol of the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

A big revelation has been revealed in the Crash case of AI171, an Air India plane in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on 12 June. A prominent aviation safety actport said in this case that the fierce accident of Air India’s fierce accident can be the result of deliberate action. After the suggestion of Aviation Expert, such a possibility has come to light for the first time when a pilot has crashed the plane.

Captain Mohan Ranganathan, one of the major aviation experts of India, pointed to the sequence of the plane’s fuel cutoff switch and the cockpit audio, saying that this fierce accident can be the result of deliberate action in the cockpit, it can also be with the intention of suicide.

When Captain Ranganathan was asked whether one of the pilots deliberately closed the fuel of the plane, knowing that the plane could be crash, the Captain said that this could happen at all.

Not inadvertently, fuel was deliberately closed- Ranganathan

In a conversation with NDTV, he claimed that, “This can be done manually. It cannot be due to automatic or power problem, as fuel selector is not of sliding type. They are designed to stay in or down or down. So it is not possible to make them out of the way that someone is able to take care of usually. It is a matter of taking it. “

There was a horrific plane accident in Ahmedabad on 12 June

Captain Mohan Ranganathan’s remarks came just 24 hours after publishing its initial report of the incident of India’s Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on June 12. In this horrific accident, 241 passengers aboard the aircraft and 19 people present at the scene were killed. Air India flight 171 on June 12 at 1:39 pm, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Ahmedabad left for London Gatwick from the International Airport. The aircraft had 228 passengers and 14 crew members. However, just 32 seconds after flying, both engines of the aircraft lost the thrust and rapidly collided with a medical hostel located just 1.2 nautical miles from the end of the runway, losing its height. At the same time, in this horrific accident, only one passenger on the plane was left alive, who was a British citizen of Indian origin.

Ahmedabad air india plane crash: The preliminary inquiry report of the accident that occurred a month after the Air India aircraft accident in Ahmedabad has revealed that the engine fuel switches from ‘run’ came to ‘cutoff’ only a few seconds after flying. This 15 -page report has been given by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Saturday (July 12, 2025).

In the voice recording of the cockpit, one pilot was heard asking the other, ‘Why did you do the cutoff?’ The second pilot replied, ‘I did not turn off.’ The cutoff case is being considered important in the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 accident on June 12, 2025. Shortly thereafter, the switch of both the engines of the aircraft going to London became cut off from Run.

What was told in the report?

787 Dreamliner and other commercial aircraft have more than enough strength to fly from the same engine and pilots are fully prepared for this phenomenon. The report said that when the aircraft is flying and the fuel control switch is taken from the cutoff.

The EAFR recording sent a Mayday alert soon after the closure was closed a few seconds. Air traffic control inquired about the call sign. He did not get any response, but then he saw the aircraft crashing outside the airport boundary.

What came about the pilot?

The plane filled with 54,200 liters of fuel started coming down fast and collided with the hostel of the medical college. Due to the fire on the plane, all the others except 1 out of 242 people were killed. This aircraft remained in the air for only 32 seconds.

Captain Sumit Sabharwal of this aircraft had an 8,200 -hour flight experience. He was accompanied by first officer Clive Kunder, who had a flying experience of 1,100 hours. The report states that both pilots were medically healthy and enough experienced.
