Pawar also thanked his mother Sunetra Pawar, who was present on the occasion and always remained his support. He also thanked NCP MLAs and senior leaders Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare for their trust and encouragement.

NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule has made an important and sensitive appeal to the Congress leadership regarding the by-elections to be held after the death of Ajit Pawar. A total of 53 candidates have filed nominations so far in the by-election to be held on April 23, including Sunetra Pawar and Congress’s Akash More. The last date for withdrawal of names is April 9, before which there are signs of further intensification of political manipulation.

A chartered Learjet 45XR aircraft crashed during landing in Baramati on the morning of 28 January 2026. Five people, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, lost their lives in this accident. It was a VIP flight and had two pilots, one cabin crew and two passengers. The plane was attempting to land at Baramati airfield at around 8:46 am.

Initial investigation revealed how the plane crashed?

Investigation revealed that Baramati is an uncontrolled airfield where flying is allowed only under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and for this a minimum visibility of 5 kilometers is required, but at that time the visibility from the tower was reported to be about 3 kilometers, that is, the weather was below the standards. There was also light fog and mist like situation in the area. In the first attempt, the pilot tried to land on Runway 11, but later did a go-around and circled again. For the second time also the aircraft took approach to runway 11. The tower gave permission for landing saying ‘winds calm’.

The pilot reported seeing the runway, but a few seconds later a panicked sound was heard from the cockpit. Soon after this the plane hit the ground about 50 meters left of the runway. Before the collision, the plane hit trees and then fell on the sloping ground below. After the accident, a massive fire broke out in the plane. The entire cockpit and cabin were destroyed by fire. All five people on board the plane died in this accident.

Preliminary investigation by AAIB has revealed that there was no modern navigation facility at the airfield, there was no permanent weather system and the runway markings were also very faded. Visibility was also below VFR standards. Data from the flight data recorder has been extracted and the cockpit voice recorder is being analyzed. The exact cause of the accident will become clear only after the final report comes, but initial indications suggest that low visibility and limited airfield facilities could be important factors in this accident.

Investigating agency recommended to DGCA

1. VFR rules should be strictly followed at uncontrolled airfields.
2. Meteorological facilities (MET) and landing aids should be improved.
3. Such airfields should be brought under regulated licensing.
4. There should be regular audit of runway and safety standards.

After the Learjet 45 plane crash that occurred in Baramati on January 28, 2026, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken strict action. After conducting a special safety audit of M/s VSR Ventures Private Limited, DGCA has grounded four Learjet 40/45 aircraft of the company with immediate effect.

In view of these irregularities, DGCA has banned the flights of Learjet 40/45 aircraft with registration numbers VT-VRA, VT-VRS, VT-VRV and VT-TRI. These aircraft will not be able to fly until continued airworthiness standards are fully restored.

What instructions did DGCA give to the company?

DGCA has directed the company to submit the root cause analysis by issuing deficiency reporting form. Further action will be taken after receiving the report. This action is being seen as a strict stance towards aircraft safety. DGCA has made it clear that any compromise with safety standards will not be tolerated.

Why was this decision taken?
The audit ran from 4 to 16 February. In this, the team led by Deputy Director General RK Anand has discussed all the aspects related to the company. In this, shortcomings related to non-following of necessary procedures, negligence in maintenance and safety standards have come to light.

Apart from these, the results have forced DGCA to take strict action. This will prevent such accidents from happening in future. This issue was examined prominently in the audit. Now this will be helpful in deciding the responsibility of the company in future.

Maharashtra Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has intensified the political stir in the state by giving a statement on Saturday (January 10). He said that the joint manifesto of the Nationalist Congress Party and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) means that both the factions have effectively come together.
