Controversies continue in Bangladesh cricket. Bangladesh Cricket Board elections were held in October last year, in which earlier there were allegations of irregularities. The committee said that many senior BCB officials were not ready to cooperate in the investigation. Last week, former BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul told in an interview that he had sent his written reply to the inquiry committee instead of giving an interview.

NSC Director Mohammad Aminul Ahsan said that the government has found enough reasons to dissolve the Bangladesh Cricket Board headed by Aminul Bulbul. After Bulbul was removed as the president, an 11-member committee has been formed, which will be led by former cricketer Tamim Iqbal. This committee will look after the functioning of BCB for the next 3 months. Iqbal is the interim president of BCB, who had accused Bulbul of misuse of power before the elections last year.

Days after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to resume bilateral ties, the country’s National Sports Council (NSC) on Tuesday removed former captain and BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul from the post. An ad-hoc committee has been formed to run the daily functioning of the board till new elections are held.

According to BCB sources, Bulbul was removed mainly due to the controversy during the T20 World Cup. At that time, Asif Nazrul, advisor to the then interim government, had in a way controlled the former captain and did not allow the national team to go to India for this global competition.

Anti-India fundamentalist Nazrul’s stance was to shift Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches from Kolkata and Mumbai to Sri Lanka in protest against Mustafizur Rahman’s removal from the IPL.

Bulbul remained a mere silent spectator during this entire incident and in the last few days, six BCB directors resigned because of him.

Former Bangladesh captain and the country’s greatest opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has been made the head of the 11-member ad-hoc team. The responsibility of this committee is to conduct cricket board elections within the next 90 days.

Bulbul termed the dissolution of the elected board of directors and formation of an ad-hoc committee as illegal. He stuck to his word and insisted that he is the only legitimate president of BCB until the High Court gives another decision.

Bulbul said in the statement, “The decision to dissolve the elected board of directors and impose an ad-hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal is a constitutional coup. This action is illegal, outside the scope of the BCB constitution and a direct violation of ICC rules regarding government interference.

“The NSC has no power to dissolve any elected body except in extremely grave circumstances specified in the NSC Ordinance, none of which exist here,” he said. The ad hoc committee is a sham institution. We do not accept its authority and we appeal to the ICC to immediately look into this matter and not allow this illegal organization to operate.

Bulbul clearly denied the allegations of corruption, manipulation or abuse of power in relation to the BCB elections held on October 6, 2025. He said that the elections were completely legitimate and were conducted with full transparency by the three-member Election Commission which was formed by the BCB on September 6, 2025. In this commission, senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Mohammad Hossain was the Chief Election Commissioner.

Bulbul said, “This process was completely in accordance with the BCB constitution. The objections raised were appropriately heard and resolved through a quasi-judicial hearing on 24-25 September 2025.

According to NSC Director Aminul Ehsan, the decision of BCB to dissolve the existing board and form an ad-hoc committee has been informed to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Although ICC rules do not allow interference by the government or any outside body in the affairs of the board, it is still unlikely that the global body will impose a ban on BCB as the deadline for conducting the elections has already been announced by the NSC.

The ad-hoc committee headed by Tamim includes Atar Ali Khan, Rashna Imam, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Minhajul Abedin Nanu, Ishrafil Khusro, Tanzeem Chaudhary, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Faheem Sinha.
