Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness over the victory of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the Falta Assembly seat of West Bengal. He has congratulated newly elected MLA from Falta seat Debanshu Panda for his victory in the elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in a post on social media platform X that the people of Falta have given their verdict! Democracy has won and threats have been defeated. Hearty congratulations to Debanshu Panda for winning by a record margin in Falta. This shows the unwavering faith of the people of West Bengal towards BJP. The public is seeing the extraordinary work done by the West Bengal government in all sectors and hence they have decided to bless us more.

He said my hearty congratulations to BJP workers across West Bengal for their excellent work. We will continue to work for the progress of West Bengal in the coming times also.

BJP candidate Debangshu Panda was declared victorious in Falta Assembly seat of West Bengal by a huge margin of 1,09,021 votes, while TMC got its deposit forfeited.

Panda got a total of 1,49,666 votes, while CPI(M) candidate Shambhunath Kurmi came second with 40,645 votes. Congress candidate Abdur Razzaq stood third with 10,084 votes, while Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan stood fourth with 7,783 votes. The deposits of both Congress and Trinamool Congress candidates were confiscated.

The results of re-polling in Falta are unique in two ways. This is the first time in history since the establishment of Trinamool Congress in January 1988 that a party candidate has got the fourth position.

This is the first time since 2011, when 34 years of Left Front rule ended and Trinamool Congress rule began, that a party candidate’s deposit has been forfeited.

Re-polling in Falta was held on 21 May. With Panda’s victory, BJP’s total seats out of 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly have now increased to 208.

Re-polling has started on Thursday in Falta assembly constituency located in South 24 Parganas of West Bengal. Re-polling is being conducted at all 285 polling stations of this assembly constituency. Voting has started at 7:00 am and will continue till 6:00 pm. The results of the elections will be declared on 24 May.

Voting was held on Falta seat on April 29 in the second phase of the recently concluded two-phase assembly elections. However, that day several complaints of alleged election rigging were reported from this constituency.

At many polling booths, EVM buttons bearing the names and symbols of BJP candidates were reportedly covered with white tape. Based on the investigation, the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered re-polling in the entire Falta assembly constituency.

Even before this, Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan had announced on Tuesday that he will not contest the elections this time. He had expressed his confidence in the Chief Minister regarding the announcement of development package for Falta.

Sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal said on Wednesday that the polling personnel are fully prepared and the deployment work is going on smoothly.

A source in the CEO office said that constant monitoring arrangements have been made to ensure that every aspect of the voting process runs smoothly. The objective of all these measures is to make voting free, fair and peaceful. This re-polling will be conducted under tight security cover of 35 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, which is a very large number for any one assembly constituency.

However, the CEO office clarified that despite Khan’s announcement, his name will continue to be a Trinamool Congress candidate in the re-poll and his name will continue to appear on the EVMs as well.

Kolkata Police on Tuesday arrested ‘Bangla Pokho’ leader Garga Chatterjee for spreading misinformation about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the recently concluded Bengal Assembly elections. A senior officer gave this information.

Chatterjee was arrested by the Cyber Crime Branch of Kolkata Police after he allegedly ignored two summons issued to him in connection with complaints lodged against him for his post during the election period, officials said.

Police said the action was taken following complaints by election officials alleging that Chatterjee’s posts spread misinformation and create distrust in the voting process.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand told reporters in Lalbazar, “A complaint against him was lodged by the District Election Officer (DEO) of Kolkata North after which the cyber cell started action. He was summoned twice in this case but he did not appear and that is why he was arrested today.

Nand said the police have also taken cognizance of several social media posts by Chatterjee allegedly targeting different communities and promoting divisive views.

The Commissioner said, ‘The police have taken action even after taking suo motu cognizance. He repeatedly posted content related to different communities on social media. There were divisive sentiments in these posts and complaints related to this are also being registered. According to sources, Chatterjee may be produced in the court on Wednesday and the police may seek his custody for questioning.

The arrest comes weeks after Chatterjee repeatedly questioned the functioning of EVMs and the role of the Election Commission of India through social media posts and public comments during the election campaign and voting phases.

This arrest is important in view of the politically tense atmosphere after the assembly elections. ‘Bangla Pokkho’ is an organization advocating Bengali interests.

After the landslide victory in West Bengal, BJP has formed the government for the first time in the state. At the same time, TMC was reduced to 81 seats. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and MP Abhishek Banerjee had made serious allegations against the Election Commission regarding the Bengal election results. Minister Dilip Ghosh has given a befitting reply to Banerjee’s allegations.

What did Dilip Ghosh say?

During a conversation with news agency IANS, Dilip Ghosh said about Abhishek Banerjee’s statement that ‘as long as he was winning, everything was fine, EVMs were fine and the Election Commission was fine. Now that they have lost, they are saying that manipulation has taken place. Society does not tolerate such people. Said that ‘everything will be implemented for the safety of women. Whatever incidents have happened in Bengal, they should not happen again in future. We will work on this with a zero-tolerance approach.

TMC MP had made these allegations

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee had recently written in a post on ‘X’ that our fight for democracy, constitutional values and people’s rights will continue under the guidance of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. He had written that we have fought a very difficult election, in which allegedly about 30 lakh real voters were excluded from the voter list. During this entire process, we saw how biased the attitude of many government agencies and the Election Commission of India was.

Why hasn’t the decision on the Chief Minister been taken yet in Kerala? After the victory, what is the fuss of Congress there?

Abhishek Banerjee had written that democratic institutions which should work impartially were also seen to be under question. This has raised serious questions on the fairness, credibility and transparency of the electoral process in West Bengal.

‘Absolutely not tolerable’

He had written that democracy can survive only when electoral institutions instill trust and confidence in the minds of the citizens. Unfortunately, what we have seen has badly broken that trust. Along with this there was violence after the elections, attacks on party offices, intimidation of our party workers and threats to our supporters. All these things are extremely worrying and absolutely intolerable in a democratic society.

Will Vijay be the CM of Tamil Nadu? The way was cleared, these parties supported

Kolkata Police The impact of the big changes in the politics of West Bengal is now visible at the administrative and digital levels as well. After the historic victory of BJP, the change of power in the state is considered almost certain. Meanwhile, the change in the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Kolkata Police has sparked a new debate in political circles.

According to media reports, as soon as the picture of BJP forming the government in the state became clear after the counting of votes, Kolkata Police made a major change in its ‘following’ list. The official handle of the police unfollowed former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. In their place, now the official X handles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are being followed.

Digital impact of change of power
Till now Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee were considered an important part of the digital connectivity of the state administration. But suddenly removing him from the following list after BJP’s victory is raising many questions. Opposition parties are linking this to the ‘new loyalty’ of the administration.

Read this also- Trump enraged by the firing on American ships in Hormuz, gave a big threat to Iran, said- if the deal is done quickly.

Discussion increased on following Modi-Shah
Kolkata Police’s following of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah is being considered politically important. This is being seen as an attempt to coordinate with the central government and the possible new state government.

Changes started appearing on the ground also
Not only on social media, changes are also visible on the ground. According to reports, the deployment of additional police force has been reduced outside Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence and Abhishek Banerjee’s office. Barricades are also being removed from Bhawanipur area. Although the Bengal Police Headquarters has described it as a normal administrative process, but these continuous changes have made the changing political picture of the state more clear.

Not only the Trinamool Congress but also the neighboring country Bangladesh is quite surprised and upset by the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections. Many leaders of the ruling party in Bangladesh have expressed concern over the defeat of TMC, while on the other hand they are also optimistic about the Teesta river water agreement with India, because Mamata Banerjee kept opposing this agreement from time to time. For this reason, this agreement could not be reached between the two countries till date.

Statement of BNP Information Secretary Azizul Bari Helal
Regarding the results of the Bengal elections in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Information Secretary Azizul Bari Helal said, “I am shocked to see the crushing defeat of TMC after being in power for a long time in West Bengal. I congratulate the BJP of winner Subhendu Adhikari.

What did Bangladesh officials say about Shubhendu Adhikari?
BNP Information Secretary Azizul Bari Helal further said that this victory of BJP under the leadership of Subhendu Adhikari will keep the relations between the Government of West Bengal and Bangladesh as cordial as before.
Azizul Bari Helal further said that we have good relations and ideologically we differ, but on some issues we are united to a great extent, such as Teesta Dam and normal relations between Bangladesh and India.
After BJP’s landslide victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the process of formation of the new government has gained momentum. Now eyes are fixed on CM face. The picture of who BJP will make its Chief Minister will soon become clear. BJP legislature party meeting will be held in Kolkata on Friday (8 May). Observer Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also participate in this. It is believed that the name of the Chief Minister can be announced in this meeting.

In the elections, BJP won more than two-thirds majority by winning 207 seats, while TMC was limited to 80 seats. After this historic victory, all eyes are on the Chief Ministerial candidate of BJP who is going to form the government for the first time in Bengal. The party had not officially declared any chief ministerial face, but Shah had definitely said during the election rally that the new chief minister would be from Bengal only.

Many names are involved in the race for the post of Chief Minister of BJP. According to political experts, BJP may give preference to political influence and influence in the organization for the Chief Minister. However, suspense still remains on to whom BJP will hand over the chair of Bengal. Let us know which faces are among the possible contenders for the post of Chief Minister of BJP.

Shubhendu Adhikari

Shubhendu Adhikari currently remains the main face of BJP in Bengal. His name is at the forefront in the race for Chief Minister. The reason for this is his political importance, hold in the organization, understanding of the land and network. In the last two assembly elections, Subhendu Adhikari not only contested against Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, but also won. Adhikari is considered the strongest face of BJP because of his direct challenge to the Mamata government.

Dilip Ghosh

The second most talked about name in BJP is that of Dilip Ghosh. He is a senior leader of BJP and has been the former state president of Bengal. He has played an important role in strengthening BJP in Bengal. His hold remains strong in the party. In such a situation, the party can hand over the responsibility of the new CM of Bengal to him.

Bulldozers ran on the roads in Bengal at 9 pm, destroyed TMC’s office, Mamata’s party said – ‘BJP…’

Samik Bhattacharya

In Bengal, the name of current state president of BJP Samik Bhattacharya is also included in the race for the post of Chief Minister. Under his leadership the party has won this assembly election. He joined RSS in 1974. He has also been the General Secretary of BJP in Bengal. Apart from this, he was also a member of the National Working Committee of the party and the Core Committee of the State BJP. In 2025, he was made the new state president of the party in place of Sukant Majumdar.

Agnimitra Paul

Agnimitra Paul, a fashion designer by profession, is also in the race for CM. Agnimitra is known as an outspoken leader. She joined BJP in 2019. For the first time in 2021, she contested the assembly elections and became MLA by defeating TMC’s Sayani Ghosh. In January this year, the party made him the vice president of Bengal BJP. In this election also he has won from Asansol South seat.

Bengal Election: A historic political change has been seen in the assembly elections of West Bengal. Bharatiya Janata Party has formed the government in the state for the first time. After almost 15 years of dominance by Mamata Banerjee and TMC, BJP was successful in penetrating the political fort which was once considered almost impenetrable. While rallies, road shows and grassroots campaigns played their role, it is also being said that this time the real battlefield was social media.

The digital war behind the elections

Unlike traditional election campaigns which depended only on rallies and public meetings, in this election a digital strategy was also implemented parallel to the grassroots campaign. According to media reports, BJP’s digital team was working in many 4 star and 5 star hotels located across the state about 4 months before the elections.

From here, teams continuously created and posted content for social media platforms. The campaign materials, including videos, graphics and political messages, were designed to influence public opinion and maintain an online presence.

BJP’s digital strategy

According to media reports, this digital campaign was led by Amit Malviya. Amit Malviya is the head of BJP’s IT cell. Under his leadership, the party created an online network whose aim was to directly shape the political narrative in Bengal.

Instead of relying solely on traditional media coverage, the BJP focused on reaching out to voters through smartphones and social media platforms.

Network of 3000 influencers

The biggest aspect of this campaign was to create a network involving more than 3000 social media influencers across the state. These included both small and big content creators active on platforms like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

According to reports, it was necessary for influencers to have at least 5000 followers. Their role was to broadcast political messages, spread the election narrative and keep online discussions active throughout the election season.

youth outreach

The biggest advantage of BJP was that it was successful in connecting with young voters and people active on social media. Content spread through influencers spreads more quickly. This sounds more like his own than traditional political speeches. By having a consistent presence online, the party manages to dominate discussions, set the narrative and get its message across to voters again and again. In today’s politics, repeating something on social media and being visible often becomes as important as ground campaigning.

Assembly Elections Result 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party is performing quite unevenly in the 2026 assembly elections. While the party seems to be dominating in Assam and West Bengal, it is facing a tough fight in southern states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It seems difficult for the party to cross the figure of 5 to 10 seats in the southern states.

BJP’s stronghold became stronger

BJP has surprised everyone by making a huge lead in West Bengal. Out of 293 seats, the party has crossed the majority mark of 148 seats and is leading in about 199 seats. The ruling party TMC led by Mamata Banerjee is on 87 seats.

Meanwhile, in the 126-seat assembly in Assam, the alliance is leading on about 97 seats. The Congress led alliance is lagging far behind and has got a lead in only about 24 seats. This demonstration further strengthens the BJP’s stronghold in the Northeast.

Also read: How ‘Panje’ left its mark in Kerala, know how Congress made a comeback in politics here?

What is the story of Tamil Nadu?

The story is completely different in Tamil Nadu. Here BJP is struggling to establish its influence. In the 234-seat assembly, the party has got a lead on only about three seats. The main contest here is between DMK, AIADMK and TVK.

limited benefits in kerala

BJP has made very modest progress in Kerala. In the 140-seat assembly, BJP is leading on only two seats. A fierce contest is being seen between UDF and LDF in the state. In the current trends, UDF is in the fray with around 96 seats and ITF with around 41 seats.

a ray of hope

There is some relief for BJP in Puducherry. In the 30-seat assembly, BJP is leading on 22 seats and Congress is leading on 6 seats.

One thing is clear from these election trends that BJP is strengthening its dominance in North-East and Eastern India. However, the party is still facing challenges in the southern states. In simple words, while BJP’s roar is being heard in some areas, in other areas it is still trying to find its voice.
