Doctor couple imprisoned in their home digitally

In this case, 81 year old Dr Om Taneja and his 77 year old wife Dr Indira Taneja, living in Greater Kailash, South Delhi, were targeted. From December 24 to January 9, both were kept under constant surveillance through phone calls and video calls.

The swindlers introduced themselves as officials of the telecom company and law enforcement agencies and said that fraudulent activities had been detected in their name. They were forced to transfer money repeatedly under threat of arrest and case.

Amount sent from Rs 700 to bank account

Police investigation has revealed that the fraudsters used more than 700 Mule Bank accounts to hide the defrauded amount. First the money was sent to seven primary accounts of Gujarat, Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttarakhand.

After this, the money from these accounts was rapidly transferred to 200 to 300 other accounts, so that the police could not know the real route.

Money transferred from Guwahati to Gujarat

Delhi Police investigation revealed that on December 26, about Rs 1.99 crore was transferred to Guwahati, Assam. On December 29 and 30, Rs 2 crore each were sent to Vadodara in Gujarat. On January 2, Rs 2 crore reached the account in Mayur Vihar, Delhi and on January 5, Rs 2.05 crore reached the account located at Nepean Sea Road, Mumbai.

According to Delhi Police sources, this multi-layer mule account network is very complex. Therefore, it is taking time to trace the complete trail of money. With the help of the bank and the Financial Intelligence Unit, the police are identifying and freezing the linked accounts. Delhi’s Patiala House Court took cognizance of the charge sheet filed by the police in which self-styled godman Chaitanyanand Saraswati has been accused of sexually harassing 17 girl students of a private management institute. Judicial Magistrate Animesh Kumar had sought clarification from the police on a section, which was clarified by Additional Public Prosecutor Raghav Khurana present in the court. After this the court accepted the charge sheet.

Chaitanyanand, who appeared from Tihar Jail through video conferencing in Patiala House Court, claimed in the court that an ASI had scuffled with him in the jail. He said that he is a senior citizen and he was assaulted. On this complaint, the court said that the case will be heard on November 29.

In this case registered on the complaint of 17 girl students of Shri Sharda Institute of Indian Management located in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, the police filed a charge sheet of 1077 pages. It includes statements of 43 witnesses.

Chaitanyananda, originally from Odisha, was living in the ashram for the last 12 years. A case has been registered against him in the year 2009 also.

In the much talked about Kanjhawala hit and run case of Delhi, Rohini Court has ordered a compensation of Rs 36 lakh 69 thousand 700 to the family of deceased Anjali. The court accepted that this accident happened due to the negligence of accused Amit Khanna. This decision was pronounced by District Judge (MACT) Vikram on October 27 and ordered that the insurance company Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Limited deposit the amount within 30 days.

What did the court say in the decision?

The court said in its order that Amit Khanna did not have a valid driving license at the time of the accident. Therefore, the insurance company will pay the amount, but it will have the right to recover from accused Amit Khanna and vehicle owner Lokesh Prasad Sharma. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has described this incident as extremely unfortunate and condemnable and has demanded strict action from the administration against the culprits who carried out this attack.

ABVP says that such incidents in and around the university campus are a matter of serious concern from the safety point of view of girl students. ABVP has demanded from the university administration that such incidents should not be repeated, for this security arrangements should be strictly implemented around the campus, the number of CCTV cameras should be increased and police patrolling should be made more active.
