According to PTI, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia says that IPL 2027 can start from March 10 and the final can be played on May 15. If this happens, the Indian Premier League tournament will be shifted 2 weeks in advance.

Devjit Saikia said, “This year the IPL started on March 28 and the final was played on May 31. The only topic that we have discussed is the possibility of rain and pre-monsoon season in the last round of the tournament, especially after May 15. On the other hand, too much heat is also a factor, which will not be favorable for the players and spectators.”

Will IPL start two weeks earlier?

Devjit Saikia said that the Governing Council is considering shifting the IPL by about 2 weeks. In this regard, BCCI General Manager AB Kuruvilla has been informed to work on such a plan so that the start date of IPL 2027 can be held on March 10 and the final on May 15.

The BCCI Secretary said that he has received complaints from many players and fans, because no player is used to playing in such heat. At present, BCCI’s priority is to complete IPL 2027 by May 15.

There will be a big change in the next season schedule

BCCI Secretary also made it clear that the next season’s tournament may start about 2 weeks earlier. This time i.e. 2026 IPL was played between 28 March and 31 May. Due to summer and pre-monsoon season, it is being considered to start the upcoming season earlier.

Talking about the schedule of the next season, Devjit Saikia said, “This year the IPL started from March 28 and the final match was played on May 31. Saikia further said, “It is the responsibility of the match referee. If something goes wrong, the umpire or referee will take a decision. There is already a system in place for this. There are a lot of speculations, but they are baseless. I assure you that BCCI will not interfere in the jurisdiction of the match referee, who is the competent authority. If there is anything wrong related to any player or any cricket activity on the field, then only the concerned authorities will deal with it.”

Devjit Saikia believes that if BCCI does anything, it will be like interfering in the jurisdiction of the match referee, which the board will not do. According to the current schedule of T20 World Cup 2026, Bangladesh was placed in Group C. It has to play its matches in Kolkata and Mumbai, but Bangladesh Cricket Board had refused to send its team to India for the World Cup matches citing security reasons.
