School Bus Fare Hike: The brunt of inflation is being seen across the country. In the recent past, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased 4 times. Due to which it became a burden on the common man’s pocket. Inflation is also rapidly affecting the everyday life of a person. Meanwhile, school bus fares have been increased in an important state of the country. Due to which another burden has increased on the pocket of the common man.

In which state fare increased?
In fact, school bus operators in Maharashtra have decided to increase the fees of school buses by 15% from June 2026. School bus operators say that due to rising expenses and no relief from the government, they have to take this step. According to the School Bus Owners Association Maharashtra, they informed the state government, transport ministry and other concerned authorities about their problems several times. Memorandums and proposals were also submitted for this, but no action was taken on their demands.

Many options were also considered
The association says that before increasing the school bus fees, they considered many options and also gave suggestions so that there is no extra burden on the parents. However, despite this no response came from the government. For this reason, a decision had to be taken to increase the bus fees for the academic session of 2026-27.

Fuel is not the only reason
Bus operators have made it clear that the decision to increase bus fares has not been taken only because of the increase in diesel prices. Rather, they have taken it due to continuous increase in fuel, salary of drivers and other employees, vehicle maintenance, insurance, toll tax, permit fees and other expenses. Apart from this, the burden of e-challan and fines imposed under various rules has also increased.

In today’s era, good earning is always considered a guarantee of a secure and comfortable life. Here a couple clearly said that the rising inflation, skyrocketing property prices and the cost of children’s education is so high that they cannot even think of having a child at the moment.

Inflation and house price became the biggest problem

Actually, this case is from Gurugram, where a person shared the story of his cousin on social media. The cousin is 35 years old and earns around Rs 2 lakh every month, while his wife’s salary is Rs 1 lakh. That means both of them together are earning Rs 36 lakh annually. But despite this they say that they are still not able to afford even a decent 1BHK house. Their direct question is that when there is not enough space for oneself, then how to create a separate space for the child?

School fees increased tension

Not only the house, but also the expense of children’s education has become a major reason for this decision. The couple says that private school fees have reached Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 every month. In such a situation, it is not easy for them to bear the expenses of raising a child. This is why they are currently postponing family planning and trying to keep their expenses under control.

Growing trend of DINK lifestyle

Such couples are nowadays called DINK i.e. “Double Income, No Kids”. Such people earn both but decide not to have a child. They pay more attention to their career, travel and lifestyle. The number of such couples is increasing rapidly in urban areas, which shows that inflation and changing priorities are now affecting family planning as well.

Some people are calling it the effect of inflation while some say that today’s generation is giving more importance to their freedom and lifestyle. Many users also said that due to rising costs in big cities, raising children has now become a big financial decision. Some users have termed such excuses as stupidity even after earning Rs 36 lakh.
