Hidden Cholesterol Marker: Due to changing lifestyle, we are facing all kinds of heart related problems. In such a situation, when it comes to heart health, people usually pay attention to cholesterol figures like LDL, HDL and triglyceride. Most people believe that if their cholesterol report is normal then their heart is completely safe. But in recent years, many such cases have come to light, where people suffered heart attacks at a young age, even though there was no major abnormality in their normal cholesterol report. This is the reason why now doctors are not only paying attention to LDL, HDL and triglycerides, but are also advising to check some hidden risks which are not visible in normal tests. Experts say that sometimes such problems are present inside the body which are not visible in the reports, but can have a serious impact on heart health.

What is Lp(a), which is said to be the hidden danger?

According to doctors, Lipoprotein (a) or Lp (a) is a special type of cholesterol particle, which looks like LDL i.e. bad cholesterol, but has an additional protein attached to it. This is the reason why it can accelerate the process of fat accumulation in blood vessels. The biggest thing is that Lp(a) is not tested in the general lipid profile test. In such a situation, a person’s cholesterol report may be normal, but his heart may still be at risk.

Also read: Best Drinks for Liver Health: These five drinks are very useful in fatty liver, as soon as you drink them, the liver will get a lot of coolness.

Heart attack cases are increasing

Doctors in India are seeing a worrying trend. Many people whose cholesterol report is normal are also becoming victims of heart attacks at the age of 30 to 40. The National Institute of Health believes that increased Lp(a) levels due to genetic reasons may be an important reason behind this. This factor is mostly influenced by genetics, so diet or exercise has limited effect on it.

Cases are increasing rapidly in India

According to experts, cases of premature heart disease are increasing rapidly in India. It has been said in many reports that a large part of the total deaths in the country are related to heart diseases. It is a matter of concern that heart attacks in many patients are happening 10 to 15 years earlier than in western countries. Genetic predisposition, diabetes, high blood pressure, inactive lifestyle and hidden lipid markers like Lp(a) can increase this risk.

Doctors say that people whose family has had cases of heart attack, stroke or heart disease at a young age, should get the Lp(a) test done at least once. Apart from this, people with high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and poor lifestyle should also take heart checkup seriously. Although it is not considered easy to reduce Lp(a) directly, but with knowledge of it, other risks such as LDL cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar can be better controlled.

Kidney Health Tips: Most of us believe that before any serious disease occurs, the body definitely gives some signals. But this often does not happen in case of kidney disease. This is the reason why doctors call it “silent disease” i.e. a disease that grows silently. Kidney is one of the most important organs of our body. It purifies the blood, removes dirt from the body, maintains water balance and also helps in controlling blood pressure. But the biggest specialty of the kidney sometimes becomes the biggest danger.

According to doctors, the kidney is so strong that it continues to function for a long time even after damage. For this reason, many people do not realize that their kidneys are getting damaged until the disease has progressed significantly.

Why is kidney disease called ‘silent killer’?

Experts say that kidney disease progresses slowly and no obvious symptoms are visible in the initial stages. At the same time, many people live a completely normal life and feel that they are completely healthy. But internally the kidney continues to weaken. According to the doctor, by the time people are first diagnosed with the disease, in many cases the kidneys have lost 85 to 90 percent of their capacity. This is why just waiting for symptoms can be dangerous. At the same time, many patients come to know about the disease when the report comes out bad in a general health checkup or suddenly such a situation arises that dialysis becomes necessary. That’s why doctors repeatedly advise people to get regular checkups done.

Also read: Medicine MRP rules India: Government fixed the prices of 30 essential medicines, now shopkeepers will not be able to charge more than MRP

Late detection affects both the patient and the family.

Late detection of kidney disease can prove to be a big blow not only for the body but also mentally. Doctors say that in many cases it happens that the patients consider themselves completely healthy when they reach the hospital, but after examination they come to know that their kidneys are seriously damaged. In such a situation, it is not easy for both the patient and his family to accept this truth. At the same time, sudden dialysis, long treatment and worries about the future make people worried. Many things like treatment expenses, changes in lifestyle and future planning come to the fore simultaneously. This is why doctors say that catching the disease in its early stages is the best way.

Which people are at greater risk and how to save your kidneys?

According to doctors, some people have a higher risk of kidney disease. These include diabetic patients, people suffering from high blood pressure, people with a family history of kidney disease, people suffering from obesity, smokers, heart patients and people above 60 years of age. Therefore, such people are advised to get their kidneys checked regularly.

The good thing is that there is no need to take very difficult steps to keep the kidneys safe. For this, keeping blood pressure and sugar under control, drinking enough water, eating a balanced diet with less salt, doing regular exercise, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol and not using excessive pain medicines without doctor’s advice can help in keeping the kidneys healthy. Doctors clearly say that kidney disease should not be diagnosed by symptoms but should be diagnosed on time. Because if detected at the right time, the kidney can be protected for a long time.

Health Checkup Routine: In today’s time, people have become more conscious about their health than before. Going to the gym, eating healthy, doing yoga, all this has become a common thing now, but an important question still remains in the minds of people that how often should health check-ups be done. Many people think that getting a blood test done once a year is enough, but the truth is much different than this. According to doctors, health check-up is different for every person. It depends on your age, lifestyle, history of illness and family medical history. Therefore, it is important that we understand the right time and method of health check-up as per our needs. In such a situation, let us know at what time the health check-up should be done.

Why is health check-up important?

Often people go to the doctor only when they have a problem, but there are many diseases which do not show any symptoms initially. With regular check-ups, you can catch the disease in its early stages. Serious problems can be avoided. You can know the exact condition of your body and reduce future risks.

Is blood test alone sufficient?

Many people believe that blood test is the complete health check-up, but this is not completely correct. A complete health check-up may include blood tests, X-ray and ultrasound, ECG, echo, cancer screening, mammogram for women, bone examination. All these tests help in detecting hidden problems inside the body in time.

Also read – Child Cancer Deaths Global: In poor countries like India, 9 out of 10 children are losing their lives due to cancer, Lancet report will scare.

How often should health check-up be done?

If you are fit, do not have any disease and follow a good lifestyle, then a complete health check-up once a year is sufficient. At the same time, if there is heart disease, diabetes or other serious diseases in your family, then it is better to get check-up done twice a year, along with special tests are also done. Apart from this, if you already have diabetes or any chronic disease, then you must get a complete check-up done twice a year, and also get HbA1c test done every 3 months. However, if you are overweight or your lifestyle is not good, then you may need additional testing. Like liver test or fatty liver test. More caution is necessary for the elderly. For this, health check-up should be done at least twice a year.

Health check-up plan for children

The health check-up plan for children is different according to their age. For example, a small baby should be seen by a doctor every 1 to 3 months. So that the vaccination is done on time and it can be seen whether their growth is going well or not. Whereas children of 1 to 5 years i.e. toddlers need to have a check-up every 3 to 6 months, so that their height, weight, nutrition and general growth can be monitored, apart from this, for school going children of 6 to 12 years, if the child is healthy then a check-up once a year is sufficient. At the same time, it is necessary for teenagers to have a check-up once a year, in which their eating habits, mental health and lifestyle are given attention so that a healthy lifestyle can be maintained and any problem can be identified in time.

Every year on 8 March we celebrate International Women’s Day. This day reminds us of the rights of women, their contribution to society and the importance of their health. Women in the society are busy balancing the responsibilities of family and work. Often in this rush, they forget to pay attention to their health. Especially when a woman crosses the age of 30, hormonal and metabolic changes begin in her body. At this age it becomes very important for women to take care of their health. By getting timely medical checkup done, serious diseases can be detected in the early stages and their treatment becomes easier. So today let us tell you which tests every woman must undergo after the age of 30.

If you are 30 years old then definitely get this test done

1. Cervical cancer screening – Cervical cancer is one of the most dangerous cancers in women. According to WHO report, about 6,60,000 new cases were reported in 2022 and 3,50,000 women died due to this reason. Therefore, after the age of 30, every woman should undergo Pap smear test once in three years. Apart from this, sometimes HPV test is also advised. These tests detect changes in the cells of the cervix and reduce the risk of cancer.

2. Breast cancer screening – Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women worldwide. According to WHO, about 6,70,000 women will die due to breast cancer in 2022. Breast cancer is very easy to treat in its early stages. Therefore, women should develop the habit of checking their breasts themselves from the age of 30. Any lump, swelling or pain can be detected immediately. Regular mammography is also important after the age of 40, especially if there is a family history of breast cancer.

3. Blood Sugar and Cholesterol Test – In today’s fast-paced life, women are managing both home and work. Due to bad lifestyle, stress and eating habits, the problem of diabetes and high cholesterol has started increasing rapidly. If there is a history of diabetes in the family, this becomes even more important. Due to this, serious diseases like heart disease and stroke are detected in time.

4. Thyroid Test – Thyroid problems are common in women due to hormonal changes. It affects the menstrual cycle and can increase the risk of premature menopause. If there is sudden weight gain or loss, constant feeling of fatigue, hair fall or mood swings, then it is very important to get a thyroid function test done. These problems can be prevented in time by getting thyroid checked in regular checkups.

5. Examination of bones – After the age of 35, the bone strength of women gradually starts decreasing. If there is deficiency of Vitamin D and calcium in the body, the bones become weak. Bone mineral density test reveals the risk of osteoporosis. Women who sit in the same posture for a long time or face frequent fractures should get this test done before the age of 30.

Read this also- Early Vascular Aging: Why are the arteries of youth hardening prematurely, is this a silent signal of heart attack?

Give yourself this gift on Women’s Day

Women’s Day is not just a day of respect, but it is also a day to pay attention to one’s health and well-being. Changes start in women’s body after 30 years and timely checkup makes their life safe. In such a situation, Pap smear and HPV test, breast cancer screening and blood sugar and cholesterol test should be done by every woman after 30 years. With regular checkups and caution, women can not only maintain their health but can also become a strong and happy foundation for their family. Therefore, on this Women’s Day, give yourself the gift of health and make health a priority in your life.

Nowadays, most people believe that if they wake up every morning and take a walk for 20-30 minutes, their heart will always remain healthy. Walking is really beneficial, but walking alone is not a guarantee of heart health. To keep the heart healthy, it is important to have a proper lifestyle, which includes eating habits, exercise, sleep, stress, habits and thinking.

Today, heart diseases have become lifestyle diseases. Wrong eating habits, sitting work, stress, smoking, alcohol and lack of sleep, all these together gradually weaken the heart. The good thing is that if some right steps are taken in time, the risk of heart disease can be reduced to a great extent. So let us know what else is necessary apart from walking to keep the heart strong and healthy.

Apart from walking, what else is necessary to keep the heart healthy?

1. Right eating habits are most important for heart health – According to experts, what you eat has a direct impact on your heart. Eating too much fried, packaged and sweet food can cause fat to accumulate in the arteries of the heart. Therefore, include green vegetables like spinach, bottle gourd, ladyfinger, carrots, fresh fruits like apple, orange, guava, papaya, whole grains like porridge, oats, brown rice, pulses, gram, kidney beans, moong and good fats like walnuts, flaxseed, olive oil in your diet.

2. Not just walking, complete exercise is important – Morning walk is a good start, but this is not enough to keep the heart strong. Exercises beneficial for the heart include brisk walking or light running, cycling, jumping rope, yoga and pranayam, light weight training, try to do at least 150 minutes of light exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise in a week.

3. Keep weight under control – According to experts, increased weight puts extra pressure on the heart. Obesity increases high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, which are directly linked to heart disease. Therefore, proper diet and regular exercise keeps your weight under control. Small changes, like quitting eating late at night and cutting down on sweets, can make a big difference.

4. Reduce salt and sodium – Consuming too much salt increases blood pressure, which is dangerous for the heart. Avoid packaged and canned food. Take pickles, snacks and sauces in limited quantities. Use lemon, coriander and spices to flavor the food.

5. Stay away from smoking and tobacco – Smoking hardens the nerves of the heart and reduces the supply of oxygen. Due to this, the risk of heart attack and stroke increases manifold. If you smoke cigarettes or tobacco, then quitting it will be the biggest gift for the heart.

6. Do not take stress lightly – According to experts, being under constant stress increases heartbeat and blood pressure. Over time this can damage the heart. Easy ways to reduce stress are deep breathing, meditation and yoga, spending time in nature, talking openly to family and friends.

7. Get complete sleep – People who sleep less have a higher risk of heart diseases. A good sleep of 7-8 hours every day gives rest to the heart and gives the body a chance to repair. It is beneficial to stay away from mobile and TV before sleeping.

8. Get regular health check-ups done – It is very important to check blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol from time to time. If the disease is detected early, treatment becomes easier.

In today’s time, cancer has become the biggest deadly disease. But the good thing is that if it is detected in the early stages, then its treatment can be easy and effective, yet only about 29 percent of the people in India get tested on time, that is, in most of the cases the disease is detected when it has progressed. Experts say that with regular screening, cancer can be eradicated and lives can be saved. So let us know why cancer screening is important and which tests should be done when.

Why is cancer screening important?

The biggest danger of cancer is that it does not show symptoms initially, by the time the effects of the disease start appearing, it has often spread inside the body. If cancer is detected in the first stage, then the treatment is easier, costs less and the chances of recovery are higher. This is the reason why doctors repeatedly say to get checked on time.

What is the situation in India?

Every year about 14 lakh new cancer cases are reported in India. Most of these are detected late. Overall, only 29 percent of cancers are detected in the early stages. In which only 15 percent of breast cancer cases are detected on time. Cervix cancer is diagnosed early in only about 33 percent cases. There itself
Oral and colorectal cancer are caught early in less than 20 percent of cases. These figures show that India is in great need of awareness and regular testing.

Which tests should be done when?

According to the government and health experts, every person should get some important cancer tests done after a certain age.

1. Mouth cancer – All adults above 30 years of age, especially men who consume tobacco or alcohol, should undergo oral examination (VIA/VILI) once a year. In this, the doctor examines the inside of the mouth with acetic acid or Lugol’s iodine.

2. Cervix Cancer – Women ages 21-29 should have a Pap test every three years. Women ages 30-65 should have a Pap test, HPV test, or just the Pap test every three years.

3. Breast Cancer – Women above 30 years of age should undergo clinical breast examination every year. After 40 years, it is necessary to get mammography or ultrasound done every 1-2 years. If someone in the family has had breast cancer, then testing should be started early.

4. Colorectal Cancer – People above 45 years of age are advised to get a colonoscopy or stool-based test done every 5–10 years.

5. Lung Cancer – Heavy smokers aged 55-80 are advised to undergo a low-dose CT scan once a year. This investigation is not necessary for common people.

6. Prostate Cancer – Men above 50 years of age are advised to undergo PSA blood test and digital rectal examination. If someone in the family has had this cancer, then investigation should be started in advance.

Cancer is such a disease that people get scared on hearing its name. This disease is often detected when it has spread widely in the body. But if it is detected in time, treatment becomes easier and the chances of recovery also increase manifold. Therefore, doctors now give more emphasis not only on treatment but also on prevention and early detection. Health experts say that especially men and women above 35 years of age should get their health checked regularly so that any serious disease, especially cancer, can be detected in the early stages. There are four screening tests that can detect cancer in its early stages. When symptoms are negligible or not visible at all. In such a situation, let us know which 4 screening tests must be done after the age of 35 years.

1. Regular Cancer Screening Test – Regular checkups i.e. standard screening tests are considered the backbone of cancer prevention. These tests have been decided after many years of study and are recognized by experts all over the world. The first one is colonoscopy. Every person should get this test done after the age of 45 years. This test helps in detecting cancer of the large intestine. It detects not only cancer but also the initial growth before it becomes cancer. Generally it is advised to repeat it every 10 years. The second test is mammogram. Women above 40 years of age should get a mammogram done once every 1 to 2 years. This is an imaging test that can detect breast cancer at an early stage. Apart from this, the third one is Pap smear or HPV test. Women above 21 years of age should get this test done for cervical cancer. Pap smear shows whether any abnormal changes are taking place in the cells of the uterus. Along with this, PSA test comes in the standard screening test. This test can give early indications of prostate cancer.

2. Gallery Test — Today’s modern technology has made cancer screening even easier. The Gallery test is a blood test that can detect more than 50 types of cancer early in a single sample. It detects the presence of cancer by detecting changes in DNA in the blood, often before symptoms are visible. Although this test does not make a complete difference in itself, but if any indication is found then the doctor can get further investigation done. People who have a history of cancer in their family or who are above 35-40 years of age can get this test done every year.

3. Genetic Test – Many times cancer occurs not only due to lifestyle but also due to genetic reasons, that is, if someone in the family has cancer at a young age, then the risk of it may increase in other members too. In such a situation, genetic testing proves to be very useful. This test identifies gene mutations such as BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2 or Lynch Syndrome, which can make a person susceptible to cancer. If changes in these genes are found, doctors can do early monitoring, do timely scanning and make prevention.

4. Whole body MRI – Full body MRI is a modern scan which gives an opportunity to look inside the body without radiation. It can detect hidden abnormalities or early tumors in many organs, even when symptoms are not visible. If it is done in combination with gallery test or genetic testing, it proves to be even more effective. However, doctors say that not every small abnormality is a matter of concern, so it is important to look at the MRI results with wisdom and expert advice.

Due to increasing cases of diabetes in India, now India is now being called the capital of diabetes. A report by the recent Lancet (The Lancet) has presented a very serious and scary picture about the country. According to this report, about 2 crore people in India are suffering from diabetes, but they are not aware of the disease, this condition is very dangerous, because diabetes is a disease that spreads slowly in the body like a silent killer and suddenly takes dangerous form, such as kidney failure, heart attack or stroke.

Another shocking case is that about 40 percent of the patients of diabetes are in India do not know that they are victims of this disease. These figures clearly indicate that there is a lack of awareness in India, and at the same time the facility of screening and testing is also not available to the common people.

What is diabetes and why it is dangerous?
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder, in which the level of sugar in the body is much higher than normal. The main reason for this is that the body is unable to use a hormone called insulin or this hormone is not made in sufficient quantity. If it is not treated on time, it can affect the eyes, kidney, heart and feet.

What was told in the Lancet report?
According to the Global Health Study of the Lancet, about 2 crore people in India are suffering from diabetes. 40 percent of these are not aware of their illness. There are 20 percent of the patients whose age is 40 years or older, but they do not even feel diabetes. Diabetes cases in urban areas are doubled more than rural areas. The main reason for this is the changing lifestyle, processed food, fast food and stress.

Many people do not know that diabetes grows slowly. Its first stage is predeabitance, in which blood sugar is slightly more than normal but not so much that it is called diabetes. If predeeds are identified in time, it can be completely reversed. That is, you can live a healthy life again with the right catering, exercise and regular health checkup.

How do you know that you have diabetes?
There are some common symptoms of diabetes, which may be overwhelming to ignore. Such as frequent urination, especially at night, excessive thirst, sudden weight loss, tiredness or weakness in the body, numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, weak eyesight or late filling of wounds. If you are constantly feeling any of these symptoms, then get blood sugar checked immediately.
