Russian President Vladimir Putin has given a big statement regarding the fifth generation Sukhoi-57. He said that Russia is always ready to work with India on the Sukhoi-57 fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft program. He said that he looks forward to supporting India in both supply and development of defense programs, which will further deepen defense cooperation between the two countries.

Vladimir Putin has said this in an extensive conversation with the heads of the world’s leading news agencies including ‘PTI’. Putin noted Russia’s defense and military ties with India and cited the joint development and joint production of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.

Putin also indicated that Russia has offered India to work jointly on the development of the fifth-generation Sukhoi-57 fighter aircraft. India is in the process of purchasing a batch of fifth generation fighter aircraft.

Putin said, ‘We have proposed to our Indian friends to work together on technology… fifth generation technology… We are ready to work with India in this area to provide fighter aircraft to India.’

President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to provide India with important technology for major defense platforms and weapons. During this period, Vladimir Putin also talked about the tense relations between India and Pakistan. He said, ‘We are well aware of the complexities of the border issues between India and Pakistan.’

When asked about China-Pakistan friendship, Vladimir Putin said, ‘Of course, it is very important for Pakistan to keep in mind cooperation with China.’ Putin said that he does not believe that Pakistan is under the control of China. He said, ‘Pakistan is a big country, which has multidimensional relations with different countries.’

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday (June 4, 2026) that Russia will not interfere in the delicate bilateral relations between India and China. He expressed confidence that India and China are committed to resolving the long-standing border disputes amicably.

Putin spoke extensively with heads of news agencies around the world, including PTI. In this conversation, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping and said that both the leaders are committed to resolving border issues peacefully.

Responding to a question from PTI, Vladimir Putin said, ‘India and China have a delicate and multidimensional relationship and it is not a good idea to interfere in it. Of course, we have talks with both our friends – India and China. He said, ‘Both President Xi and Prime Minister Modi are trying to resolve all issues of mutual interest, including the border issue.’

Underlining Russia’s strategic balance in Asia, President Putin said that Russia’s decades-old partnerships with India and China have developed naturally and the two relations are completely different from each other. He described these relations as a natural evolution and said that Russia’s growing closeness with India is not at the expense of China, just as Russia’s deep alliance with China does not affect its relations with India.

Vladimir Putin also mentioned the historical background of the Russia-India-China trilateral framework. He said, ‘I had once suggested that the leaders of India and China meet in Russia and that is how the Russia-India-China framework was established. We had many issues to talk about and reach consensus.

India and China have taken several steps to normalize relations over the past year, following severe tensions in their relations due to the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020 and the subsequent military standoff that lasted for more than four years.
