Khemchand Prakash is a name in the world of Hindi film music, whose tunes gave a new identity to the music of the old era. He was not only a great composer but also a mentor who gave a starting platform to legendary artists like Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Naushad and Mukesh. His guidance and passion changed the lives of all of them, but the fate of them was that they themselves could not see the heights of these stars.

‘Passion for music since childhood’
Khemchand Prakash was born on 12 December 1907 in Jaipur. His father Govardhan Das was a well-known Dhrupad singer and Kathak dancer. Khemchand was engrossed in music since childhood and learned the depth of raga, taal and tunes from his father. At the age of just 19, he became a Jaipur court singer. After this, he also worked as a singer in the courts of Bikaner and Nepal, where he got a chance to understand the nuances of royal music.

‘Journey to Kolkata and first step in the film industry’
After this Khemchand reached Kolkata and joined New Theatres. Here he worked as an assistant to the famous musician Timir Baran in films like ‘Devdas’ (1935). During this time, he also sang a comic song in ‘Street Singer’ (1938), which became quite popular. These years in Kolkata proved to be the foundation for his career and he closely understood the music patterns of the film industry.

‘New beginning in Mumbai and first chance given to superstars’
Khemchand came to Mumbai in 1939 and composed the music of ‘Meri Aankhen’ and ‘Ghazi Salauddin’ for Supreme Pictures. Later he joined Ranjit Movietone and gave music in films like ‘Diwali’, ‘Holi’, ‘Fariad’ and ‘Tansen’. During this period, he gave recognition to Lata Mangeshkar, gave a chance to Kishore Kumar to sing his first song and gave entry to names like Naushad and Manna Dey in the industry. At that time Khemchand was like a talent factory.

‘Birth of an evergreen legend’
Khemchand’s most iconic film was ‘Mahal’ (1949). The song ‘Aayega Aane Wala’ from this film became the turning point in Lata Mangeshkar’s life. This song became such a hit that Lata instantly became a superstar. Khemchand’s music opened many careers and gave direction to many stars.

Unfortunately, on August 10, 1950, at the age of just 42, Khemchand Prakash died due to liver cirrhosis. He could not see the success of the artists he launched. Today, even though his name is less heard by common people, his tunes and the legacy created by him will always be special for music lovers.

When it comes to the most famous and successful music composer duo in the history of Indian cinema, the name of Laxmikant-Pyarelal immediately comes to mind. This pair ruled Bollywood with their music for almost four decades.

Due to his music, the 1964 film “Dosti” established him in the film industry. Who can forget the songs “Chahunga main tujhe saanjh savere” and “Raahi manwa dukh ki chinta kyun satati hai” from this movie?

Laxmikant’s childhood was spent in poverty.

We are talking about late Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar, who was born on November 3, 1937 in Mumbai. He worked as a composer and lyricist in more than 500 films, but he gained fame only after working together with music composer Pyarelal.

After the death of his father in his childhood, due to poverty and debt, the burden of managing the house fell on his shoulders at an early age. He left studies and started working as a child artist. He wanted to earn money for the family, so he thought of buying a musical instrument. Along with purchasing the instrument, he learned to play it from Hussain Ali for 2 years and while honing his skills, he created excellent music.

How Laxmikant-Pyarelal pair was formed

The story of the meeting of music composers Laxmikant and Pyarelal is also unique. Both of them met because of the famous Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar. Actually, Laxmikant saw Lata Mangeshkar for the first time in Colaba’s Radio Club. Laxmikant also impressed everyone with his presentation in the club.

Lata Mangeshkar was also very impressed by Laxmikant and she enrolled him in Suril Kala Kendra. Suril Kala Kendra was run by Lata ji’s family, which provides music education to poor children.

It was in this center that Laxmikant met Pyarelal for the first time. Laxmikant started composing music at the age of 12 and Pyarelal also joined him at the age of 10.

Both of them worked together from a young age and by the time they reached young age, both of them blessed Hindi cinema with many hit songs and melodious music. The hit duo composed music and also wrote lyrics for about 750 songs.

The name of Nur Jahan, who gave voice to the song ‘Awaaz De Kahan Hai’ from the 1946 Bollywood film Anmol Watch, is not an introduction. She was counted among the most famous personalities of her era due to melodious voice, amazing singing and unmatched beauty.

Travel from Punjab to Queen of Taranum
Nur Jahan was born on 21 September 1926 in Kasur district (present -day Pakistan) of Punjab. His real name was Allah Rakhi Vasai, but in the film industry, he got recognition in the name of Nur Jahan. Due to the inclination towards music since childhood, he studied classical music and started singing on stage at a young age. Gradually, his popularity increased so much that people started calling him Mallika-e-Tarannum i.e. Queen of Tarannum.

Example of music from Nur Jahan India to Pakistan
Nur Jahan started his career in India and along with acting in films, he also spread his singing magic. The sweetness and depth in his voice was so much that the listeners used to become crazy. In the Anmol Watch (1946), Jugnu (1947) and Mirza Sahiban (1947), their songs are still on the tongue of music lovers.

She was one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema before the partition, but after the partition of the country in 1947, she had to build her shelter in Pakistan. Going there, she created history with her singing and also became the first female film director of Pakistan.

Nur Jahan was identified not only as a singer or actress, but also as a very self -dependent woman. He had two marriages and performed responsibilities with his children. His personal life was full of ups and downs, but he never looked back in professional life. His beauty and confidence made him special in everyone’s eyes.

Lata and Nur Jahan immortal story of music and friendship
India’s voice Kokila Lata Mangeshkar and Nur Jahan’s friendship is counted among the most memorable stories of the music world. When Lata was starting a new song in films, Nur Jahan was inspiration for her. Nur Jahan not only praised Lata’s singing, but also encouraged her to move forward. Interestingly, Nur Jahan used to call Lata Mangeshkar with love. The friendship of both of them was so deep that this relationship remained intact even when Nur Jahan went to Pakistan after partition.

Lata and Nur Jahan’s border meeting
In 1951, the famous composer C. wanted to record a duet song from Ramchandra, Lata and Nur Jahan. For this, he reached the attic border with Lata Mangeshkar, but due to the problem of visa and passport, he was not allowed to go ahead. During this, Nur Jahan also reached the border and both met there. C. Ramchandra has written in his biography that as soon as Lata and Nur Jahan met each other, they started crying bitterly.

This scene was very emotional. Both singers had understood that even though the borders could divide the countries, but not the hearts and friendship. Nur Jahan’s friendship was not limited to Lata Mangeshkar. She was also a good friend of artists like Dharmendra and had a special relationship with many people of the film industry. Many stories about him are still part of the discussion.

Nur Jahan Voice and Example of Awards
During the long career, Nur Jahan sang songs in many languages including Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi. The power of her singing was that whether the tone was high or below, she used to sing easily. This was the reason that those who listen to him still feel magic in his voice. In Pakistan, he received many awards like Pride of Performance, Tamga-e-Imtiaz. On 23 December 2000 in Karachi, Nur Jahan said goodbye to this world. Millions of people attended his last visit and he was buried with state honors. His voice, his films and his stories are still alive in the memories of people.

The year of 1985, when Hindi cinema had lost a shining star forever. A musician who gave a new identity to the Indian ballet not only with his music. We are talking about Ramakrishna Shinde. A name that continued to echo in millions of hearts even after being behind the scenes. His story is not just a musician, but of an artist who never let his art wither, despite all the struggles.

Ram Krishna Shinde used to learn music by hiding from family
On the day of ‘Ramnavami’ in 1918, the father’s shadow arose from the head of Ramakrishna, born in an ordinary Maratha family in Malvan, Western Maharashtra and the responsibility of the family came to his maternal uncle and aunt. They all came to live in Nanachouk area of Mumbai, where Ramakrishna’s childhood was spent in the streets of Mumbai.

There was no background of music in the family, yet the world of notes had taken home in this child’s mind. He started singing from Pandit Sitaram Pant Modi and studying sitar from Pandit Madhav Kulkarni. In those days, he often participated in concerts in fairs and exhibitions. In these programs, another emerging talent used to share the stage with him, which later became famous as ‘Swar Kokila’ and she is Lata Mangeshkar.

Leaving the job and dedicated his whole life to music
Seeing the financial condition of the family, young Ramakrishna started a job at Don Mills in Parel, Mumbai. But luck had something else approved. His tunes were pulling him away from the noise of machines, pulling him into the world of notes. In the year 1944, he was married to Nalini. Meanwhile, he came in contact with tabla player Ramakant Parsekar and dance-director Parvati Kumar Kambli.

His inner art forced him to take a decision that he would now live for music. He quit his job and dedicated his entire life to music. It was a big step, which also had risks, but his confidence in his art was strong like a rock.

Ramakrishna Shinde became the unconscious king of ballet music
Ramakrishna Shinde’s career was not limited to Hindi cinema only, but his contribution in the field of Indian ballet was incomparable. He gained fame from the ballet-dance music he prepared for the Indian National Theater (INT). His name became synonymous with ballet music. He performed a music combination of a total of 27 ballet dances during his lifetime, which made him the king of this genre. There was a special magic in his music, which used to thread every spirit of the dancers in the notes.

His magic of his Karnapriya tunes soon reached the film world. He got a chance to give music in the 1947 film ‘Manager’. The film was made under the banner of ‘Tiwari Productions’ and its director was IP Tiwari. His film journey started with this film. The same year he also got an opportunity to give music in another film ‘Bihari’. However, he was not the only musician in this film, Naresh Bhattacharya was also with him.

Reaching the pinnacle of success and said goodbye to the world
Ramakrishna Shinde also gave music in 1966 in Marathi films like Marathi film ‘Toki Sadhu Olakhawa’ and ‘I Ahe Shetat’ in 1970, which he also produced. More important than the success of films was the quality of music for him. His tunes still live in the hearts of music lovers. Even though Ramakrishna Shinde’s name is not associated with big business successes, his art gave many films a special identity. Manager (1947), Bihari, whose victory, gauna, dreadful jungle, police station and Captain India are the list of major films, for which they prepared music.

He died on 14 September 1985. Till then he was at the peak of his creativity even at the age of 67. At that time he was working on two important projects, including Raja Dhale’s ballet ‘Chandalika’ and Ajit Sinha’s ballet ‘Rituchakra’ for Doordarshan.

Sanjay dutt birthday special: Bollywood’s ‘Baba’ Sanjay Dutt’s life is no less than a film story. He is one of the biggest stars of Bollywood today. His strong acting and best style has won the hearts of millions. There are many interesting stories in the life of every shining star. Such is an incident of Sanjay’s childhood, when he had to be embarrassed in front of Lata Mangeshkar due to a small mistake.

Sanjay Dutt was born on 29 July 1959 in a film family. His father Sunil Dutt and mother Nargis were both famous artists. In childhood, Sanjay was very fond of music. He used to walk in the school band playing drum at the back. His sister Priya Dutt had told in a TV show that Sanjay used to play only one type of school drum.

When Sanjay Dutt insisted on going to Bangladesh

After the war between India and Pakistan in 1971, a group of artists were going to go to Bangladesh and show for the soldiers and general public. Sunil Dutt was also in that group. At that time, Sanjay Dutt was just 12-13 years old, when he came to know about this, he also insisted on going to Bangladesh from his father.

On this, Sunil Dutt first refused Sanjay and said that the same artists are going there, who can sing, play or show any art. To this, Sanjay immediately replied and said, ‘I will play Bongo!’

In front of Sanjay’s insistence, the father finally had to bow down and he took him with him. When the show of the show came, Lata Mangeshkar was singing in her magical voice on the stage. The whole atmosphere was calm and emotional. During this, Sanjay Dutt started playing Bongo.

Bongo’s messy rhythm distracts Lata ji’s attention and he suddenly turned back and saw who is playing Bongo? Then Sanjay was standing behind in an innocence. Seeing Lata ji, Sanjay became watery with shame. This moment was for him that he could never forget.

This story was narrated by Sunil Dutt himself in a TV interview to Farooq Sheikh.

Sanjay Dutt’s film career

Sanjay Dutt’s film career has been very interesting and full of ups and downs. He made his acting debut in 1981 with the film ‘Rocky’, directed by his father Sunil Dutt.

After this, he made his own identity in films like ‘Sajan’, ‘Khalnayak’, ‘Vaasta’ and “Kant ‘. But he got popularity from the film’ Vaasta ‘. For this he also received the Filmfare Award.

He played many different characters in films. He was sometimes a lover, sometimes in the role of a dangerous gangster. Because of his style, he was called as ‘Sanju Baba’. But his life was not as easy as films.

Allegations against Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt’s name appeared in the 1993 bomb blasts in Mumbai. At that time, he was accused that he had kept weapons at his house, which could be used in those blasts. Sanjay always said that he did not want to do so and kept weapons only for the safety of his family. Due to this case, he had to spend many years in jail and was released from jail in 2016.

Drugs surrounded Sanju Baba

Apart from this, the habit of drug addiction was also a big struggle in Sanjay Dutt’s life. In many interviews, he himself confessed that he had become addicted to drugs. But after treatment, he got rid of intoxication. Many people were inspired by seeing his fight.

Fans’ favorite films include ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’. His ‘Adhira’ character in ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ released in 2022 was very much discussed; This character helped him recognize him in the South Industry.

He also played important roles in films like ‘Shamshera’, ‘Emperor Prithviraj’, and ‘Leo’. Apart from this, he also tried his hand in production and produced a film like ‘Prasthanam’. Sanjay Dutt’s career never went in a straight line, but after every decline, he returned to stronger. He is still active in films and has many big projects in his bag.

The legacy of madan mohan: When the notes get into the heart like a magic and have some special feeling in every tune, then understand that music is of Madan Mohan. On July 14, 1975, Hindi cinema lost a magician who poured the sea of emotions in millions of hearts along with immortalizing songs with its tunes. Madan Mohan, who was called Lata Mangeshkar ‘Madan Bhaiya’ and ‘Shehzada of Ghazals’, was a precious gem from a soldier to the peak of music.

Be it the sadness of ‘Lag Ja Gaur’ involved in their tunes, the passion of ‘Kar Chale Hum Fida’, today lives in every breath. Come on his death anniversary, remember the musician who gave the color to the soul and the songs of emotions.

A date that is not just remembering, tribute

July 14 is not just a date, but the day to remember the music emperor, which gave Hindi film music a wonderful confluence of emotionalism and spirituality. Madan Mohan is identified as a musician, but he was more than this; He was the author of a feeling who made every song a lively experience, not just a tune.

He made the notes a voice of conscience, not just entertainment, whether it is the innocence of love, the pain of love or the passion of patriotism. Their tunes give every sense a true definition of sensation. On 14 July 1975, a star was extinguished from the beautiful world of Indian cinema, whose light still reaches the hearts through the ears.

Madan Mohan’s full name was Madan Mohan Kohli. He was one of the soldiers, a radio artist and then one of the most composed musicians in Hindi cinema. “Madan Mohan: Ultimate Melodies” has overturned the pages of his life. From his birth to important stages of life is mentioned.

Ratna of Indian music born in Baghdad

Madan Mohan was born on 25 June 1932 in Baghdad. Shruati education was done in Lahore, then Mumbai and Dehradun. In 1943, he joined the Indian Army as the Second Lieutenant and served till the end of World War II. But his soul’s relationship with music was tied deeply. In 1946, he started working as a program assistant at All India Radio, Lucknow, where contact with veterans like Ustad Fayaz Khan and Begum Akhtar awakened his inner musician.

After returning to Mumbai in 1948, he worked as an assistant to music directors like SD Burman and Shyam Sundar, but as an independent musician from the 1950 film ‘Aankhen’, his real identity. After this, his journey never stopped. The compositions she did with the voice of Lata Mangeshkar, she still falls under the category of immortal songs. Lata used to call her as ‘Madan Bhaiya’ and called her Shahzada of Ghazals.

Mohammad Rafi was Madan Mohan’s favorite singer. When someone recommended Kishore Kumar in a film like ‘Laila Majnu’, he clearly said, ‘Majnu’s voice can only be of Rafi Sahab’. As a result, the film became a musical hit and Rafi’s voice was the identity of Rishi Kapoor.

The song that crossed the time and settled in the heart

There are some songs that cross the boundaries of time, even today they touch the heart deeply. The melodious tune of ‘Lag Ja Gar …’ (who was, 1964) and the gentle voice of Lata Mangeshkar engraves the feelings of love and separation together, as if an untold promise is hidden in every note. ‘Your eyes understood …’ (illiterate, 1962) expresses the romantic style and its simple tune of love, which takes the listener into a different world. ‘Kar Chale Hum Fida …’ (reality, 1965) awakens such a passion for patriotism that every word feels a mixture of sacrifice and pride. At the same time, ‘you have found you …’ (laughing wounds, 1973) reveals the complications of love, which awakens a sweet pain in the heart as soon as he hears it. And the depressed tune of ‘Woh Bhuli Dastan …’ (Sanjog, 1961) refreshes the memories of the past, as if the pages of an old book are turning. The tunes of these songs are like a fantasy, which also moist by eyes and also fills a precious, sweet pain in the heart. These songs are not just music, but a treasure of emotions that will keep touching the hearts of every generation.

Raja Mehndi Ali Khan, Rajendra Krishna and Kaifi Azmi, Madan Mohan’s Jugalbandi with these three gave Hindi cinema with immortal songs. The tenderness of Rajendra Krishna, the emotional depth of King Mehndi Ali and the poetry of Kaifi Azmi were given to Madan Mohan’s tunes.

On 14 July 1975, Madan Mohan died at the age of just 51, but even after his departure, his music was alive. In 2004, Yash Chopra used his unused melodies in the film ‘Veer Zara’, on which Javed Akhtar wrote new lyrics. Songs like ‘Tere Liye’ and ‘Kabhi Na Kabhi To Milge’ again made Madan Mohan’s soul alive. This is the reason why he received the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for the song ‘Tere Liye’ of this film.

Lata-Maidan pair was the soul of music

Madan Mohan was incomplete without Lata Mangeshkar and the definition of a career of Lata without Madan Mohan was incomplete. Lata used to tie Rakhi to him and every time he was ready to give voice to his tunes. Asha Bhosle’s complaints that they only lose with Lata, there is also evidence that the pair was the most intimate partnership in cinema history.

Madan Mohan gave music for about 100 films. But not the number, but the quality of their tunes makes them classic. He did not just give the tone in music, he made the audience experience emotions – like the sound of the beating heart has adopted the voice.

I have tried to maintain this hymn with my reverence and soul while maintaining their sentiment.
