According to the figures revealed in the exit poll of Chanakya Strategy, the Congress alliance is getting between 72 to 80 seats. So the Left seems to be getting between 58 to 64 seats. Others are expected to get 3 to 7 seats.

In Materise’s survey, Left has 60 to 65 seats.

According to the survey of Materise, the Left is expected to get 60 to 65 seats, while the Congress alliance is expected to get between 70 to 75 seats. However, the results of both the exit polls are not one-sided.

UDF gets majority in Vote Vibe survey

Apart from this, in the survey of Vote Vibe, LDF is expected to get 58-68 seats, UDF is expected to get 70 to 80 seats, and others are expected to get between 0 to 4 seats.

Apart from this, in the survey of Axis My India, LDF is expected to get 49 to 62 seats, while UDF is expected to get 78 to 90 seats. Others are expected to get between 0 to 3 seats.

Public campaigning for Kerala elections will stop today

As the campaign for the April 9 assembly elections in Kerala ended on Tuesday, Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) launched sharp attacks on each other on Monday. LDF has released a progress report claiming that it has fulfilled 97 percent of its promises for 2021.

According to the data provided by the Election Commission, a total of 2.71 crore voters including 1.32 crore men, 1.39 crore women and 273 third gender voters and more than 2.42 lakh migrant voters are eligible to exercise their franchise.

This election will decide the fate of 890 candidates contesting for 140 seats. During the election campaign, Congress alleged a “compromise” between the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the BJP. He alleged mismanagement of funds raised by Congress for housing the landslide victims in Wayanad. There were heated exchanges between the parties regarding these issues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held several rallies and road shows in support of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in the state. The politics of the state has been dominated by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the CPI(M)-led LDF for a long time.

As the countdown for this important election begins, top national leaders of BJP including Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra campaigned in the state on Monday. The campaign of the ruling LDF was led by senior CPI(M) leader and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Shah held a massive roadshow in support of NDA candidate Sandeep Vachaspati in Haripad in Kerala’s coastal district of Alappuzha. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Left Democratic Front (LDF) during a rally in Alappuzha, Kerala. He said that after the elections there will be nothing left in LDF and the party has moved away from its real thinking. Rahul Gandhi said that Congress and UDF have been fighting against LDF for many years. Earlier LDF was known for certain ideas with which Congress disagreed, but now it has compromised with its own ideas. He said that LDF definitely has Left in its name, but now that thinking is no longer left in it.

Rahul Gandhi also alleged that a hidden hand is working behind the LDF government, which is dividing the people and does not believe in the Constitution. Rahul Gandhi said that now a kind of relationship is visible between BJP, RSS and LDF in Kerala. Rahul Gandhi described LDF leaders as taking advantage of the opportunity. He said that some leaders can do anything just to come to power and it does not matter whose support they get. At the same time, some old workers of the party are sad and angry with this situation.

Rahul Gandhi targeted PM Modi

Also targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi said that Modi attacks Congress every time, but does not say anything on the LDF government or the Chief Minister in Kerala. He raised the question why this is happening. He also said that the Prime Minister often talks about religion and temples in his speeches, but when he comes to Kerala, he does not say anything on the issue of gold theft in Sabarimala temple. Rahul Gandhi alleged that Modi remains silent on this issue because he wants to help the LDF government and his target is only UDF. Referring to the cases pending against him, Rahul Gandhi said that he has fought continuously against BJP and RSS. He said that there were 38 cases against him, he was interrogated for a long time, but he never gave up.

Role of LDF-UDF in Kerala politics

Politics in Kerala has been between LDF and UDF for a long time. However, LDF came to power again in 2021, which was different from the earlier trend. This time the contest in the elections is being considered three-way, because the BJP-led NDA is also trying to strengthen its hold. Voting for the 2026 assembly elections in Kerala will take place on April 9 and the results will come on May 4. The tenure of the current assembly is ending on 23 May.

Kerala election 2026: Just before the Kerala Assembly elections, a new controversy is raising the temperature of politics. The debate that started over support for SDPI has now turned into a direct conflict between LDF and Congress. He further added, “To say that we do not want votes of any class is unconstitutional.” That means CPI(M)’s stand is clear. No formal alliance, but no refusal to vote either.

Former Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac also reiterated the same line and said, “We will not negotiate or compromise with anyone but we will not refuse anyone who votes.”

Congress’s counterattack – ‘Where is the secular stand?’
At the same time, the Congress leadership is presenting this entire issue as “principle versus politics”. Opposition leader VD Satheesan raised the question that if LDF is truly secular, will it show the courage to openly reject SDPI’s support? He alleged that on one hand the LDF blames the UDF, but on the other hand it also has “quiet talks” with the SDPI.

SDPI’s statement – ‘We will support through strategy’
Amidst this entire controversy, SDPI has also made its stand clear. Party national president MK Faizi said, “Where we are not contesting elections, we will support one front—LDF or UDF.” He also admitted that BJP is strong in Nemom, hence support has been given to LDF there. However, he also added, “This does not mean that we will support LDF everywhere.”

BJP’s entry, allegations more harsh
BJP has also jumped into this controversy. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrashekhar accused Left leaders of adopting a “double standard” and called it political hypocrisy. Rajeev Chandrashekhar said, “MA Baby should show his mind. When Pahalgam incident happened, MA Baby blamed the Indian government instead of condemning Pakistani terrorists. The real issue is how the current ministers of the Communist Party are accepting SDPI votes, as Shivankutty ji did. Today the Chief Minister is saying that we do not accept SDPI votes. This shows double standards and hypocrisy. There is a saying – the difference between the Chinese Communist Party and the Communist Party of India. This is that the Chinese Communist Party is nationalist, while the Indian Communist Party is anti-national. MA Baby and Sivankutty have proved this.

The party is active in many states, especially Kerala and Karnataka, and also fields candidates in elections. The BJP, which made a dent in the Left stronghold of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation in Kerala for the first time, has suffered a major setback when the party lost an important by-election. Due to this, the party has missed the majority mark required to grab the chair of Municipal Corporation.

By-elections held after the death of an independent candidate

The matter is related to the by-election of Vizhinjam ward here. Here an independent candidate died before the elections, hence re-elections were held. In this, United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate KH Sudhir Khan defeated Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate N Naushad by 83 votes.

UDF got 2,902 votes. Whereas the LDF candidate got 2819 votes. At the same time, BJP’s Sarvashaktipuram Binu could get only 2437 votes and remained at the third position. Voting was held in Vizhinjam on Monday. Now BJP will have to depend on the support of independent councilors to get majority in the corporation. The magic figure of majority here is 51. BJP currently has 50 members in the 101-member council.

UDF has increased its number of seats in the municipal body from 19 to 20. This is double the number of seats won in 2015. Another ward slipped from CPI’s hands. The number of LDF seats in the municipal body remains 29.
