Congress has changed the entire game in Kerala. This is not what we are saying but the recent exit poll figures are saying this. Among these, Chanakya Strategy and Materise’s survey have indicated the return of the UDF government i.e. the Congress coalition government. Meaning the Left alliance is not able to score a hat-trick this time. However, a tough fight between both the alliances has been predicted in all the polls. In the Kerala Poll of Polls, everyone is seen forming the UDF government.

Exit poll data of Chanakya Strategies

According to the figures revealed in the exit poll of Chanakya Strategy, the Congress alliance is getting between 72 to 80 seats. So the Left seems to be getting between 58 to 64 seats. Others are expected to get 3 to 7 seats.

In Materise’s survey, Left has 60 to 65 seats.

According to the survey of Materise, the Left is expected to get 60 to 65 seats, while the Congress alliance is expected to get between 70 to 75 seats. However, the results of both the exit polls are not one-sided.

UDF gets majority in Vote Vibe survey

Apart from this, in the survey of Vote Vibe, LDF is expected to get 58-68 seats, UDF is expected to get 70 to 80 seats, and others are expected to get between 0 to 4 seats.

What does Axis My India’s survey say?

Apart from this, in the survey of Axis My India, LDF is expected to get 49 to 62 seats, while UDF is expected to get 78 to 90 seats. Others are expected to get between 0 to 3 seats.

UDF is expected to form government in these two polls also
In the People’s Pulse survey, LDF is expected to get 55 to 65 seats, while UDF is expected to get 70 to 85 seats. Others are expected to get 0 to 3 seats.

According to the exit poll of P. Mark, LDF is expected to get 62 to 69 seats, while UDF is expected to get 71 to 79 seats. Among these, others are expected to get seats between 1 and 7.

Complete preparations have now been made for the assembly elections in four states and one union territory. While everyone’s eyes are on the West Bengal assembly elections, the assembly elections in the southern states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu are also being discussed everywhere. Speculations are also being made about BJP’s chances of winning in these two states. Meanwhile, an opinion poll has estimated that the condition of BJP in Kerala is very bad.

According to the MATRIZE opinion poll shown on India TV, LDF is expected to get 62-68 seats, UDF 67-73 seats, BJP 05-08 seats and others 0-3 seats in Kerala. That is, it is clear that BJP does not seem to be doing any big miracle in Kerala on its own.

This survey has brought very good news for the Congress led UDF. The alliance is likely to get majority. LDF has been running the government in Kerala for the last decade.

Public campaigning for Kerala elections will stop today

As the campaign for the April 9 assembly elections in Kerala ended on Tuesday, Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) launched sharp attacks on each other on Monday. LDF has released a progress report claiming that it has fulfilled 97 percent of its promises for 2021.

According to the data provided by the Election Commission, a total of 2.71 crore voters including 1.32 crore men, 1.39 crore women and 273 third gender voters and more than 2.42 lakh migrant voters are eligible to exercise their franchise.

This election will decide the fate of 890 candidates contesting for 140 seats. During the election campaign, Congress alleged a “compromise” between the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the BJP. He alleged mismanagement of funds raised by Congress for housing the landslide victims in Wayanad. There were heated exchanges between the parties regarding these issues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held several rallies and road shows in support of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in the state. The politics of the state has been dominated by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the CPI(M)-led LDF for a long time.

As the countdown for this important election begins, top national leaders of BJP including Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra campaigned in the state on Monday. The campaign of the ruling LDF was led by senior CPI(M) leader and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Shah held a massive roadshow in support of NDA candidate Sandeep Vachaspati in Haripad in Kerala’s coastal district of Alappuzha. Rahul and Priyanka addressed separate election meetings in support of Congress-led alliance candidates in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kannur districts and alleged that there was an “agreement” between the BJP and the CPI(M) to defeat the Congress-led UDF. Meanwhile, the CPI(M)-led LDF released its progress report in Kannur, in which Vijayan claimed that about 97 percent of the promises made in 2021 have been fulfilled.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Left Democratic Front (LDF) during a rally in Alappuzha, Kerala. He said that after the elections there will be nothing left in LDF and the party has moved away from its real thinking. Rahul Gandhi said that Congress and UDF have been fighting against LDF for many years. Earlier LDF was known for certain ideas with which Congress disagreed, but now it has compromised with its own ideas. He said that LDF definitely has Left in its name, but now that thinking is no longer left in it.

Rahul Gandhi also alleged that a hidden hand is working behind the LDF government, which is dividing the people and does not believe in the Constitution. Rahul Gandhi said that now a kind of relationship is visible between BJP, RSS and LDF in Kerala. Rahul Gandhi described LDF leaders as taking advantage of the opportunity. He said that some leaders can do anything just to come to power and it does not matter whose support they get. At the same time, some old workers of the party are sad and angry with this situation.

Rahul Gandhi targeted PM Modi

Also targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi said that Modi attacks Congress every time, but does not say anything on the LDF government or the Chief Minister in Kerala. He raised the question why this is happening. He also said that the Prime Minister often talks about religion and temples in his speeches, but when he comes to Kerala, he does not say anything on the issue of gold theft in Sabarimala temple. Rahul Gandhi alleged that Modi remains silent on this issue because he wants to help the LDF government and his target is only UDF. Referring to the cases pending against him, Rahul Gandhi said that he has fought continuously against BJP and RSS. He said that there were 38 cases against him, he was interrogated for a long time, but he never gave up.

Role of LDF-UDF in Kerala politics

Politics in Kerala has been between LDF and UDF for a long time. However, LDF came to power again in 2021, which was different from the earlier trend. This time the contest in the elections is being considered three-way, because the BJP-led NDA is also trying to strengthen its hold. Voting for the 2026 assembly elections in Kerala will take place on April 9 and the results will come on May 4. The tenure of the current assembly is ending on 23 May.

Kerala election 2026: Just before the Kerala Assembly elections, a new controversy is raising the temperature of politics. The debate that started over support for SDPI has now turned into a direct conflict between LDF and Congress. The issue is not just about support, but about allegations of “secular politics” versus “secret deals”, and this is what is making this election more interesting.

What is the whole controversy?
The controversy started when SDPI hinted at supporting ruling LDF candidates on some seats, especially high-profile seats like Nemom. After this, Congress alleged that there is an “inside deal” between CPI(M) and SDPI. However, the Left camp rejected these allegations outright, but repeated one line again and again – no matter who’s vote it is, it cannot be rejected.

‘We cannot refuse anyone’s vote’
LDF candidate and senior CPI(M) leader V Shivankutty clearly said, “The Constitution gives every person the right to vote. As a candidate, I can only ask for votes, I cannot say that I will not take votes of any particular group. Does this happen anywhere?”

He further added, “To say that we do not want votes of any class is unconstitutional.” That means CPI(M)’s stand is clear. No formal alliance, but no refusal to vote either.

Former Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac also reiterated the same line and said, “We will not negotiate or compromise with anyone but we will not refuse anyone who votes.”

Congress’s counterattack – ‘Where is the secular stand?’
At the same time, the Congress leadership is presenting this entire issue as “principle versus politics”. Opposition leader VD Satheesan raised the question that if LDF is truly secular, will it show the courage to openly reject SDPI’s support? He alleged that on one hand the LDF blames the UDF, but on the other hand it also has “quiet talks” with the SDPI.

SDPI’s statement – ‘We will support through strategy’
Amidst this entire controversy, SDPI has also made its stand clear. Party national president MK Faizi said, “Where we are not contesting elections, we will support one front—LDF or UDF.” He also admitted that BJP is strong in Nemom, hence support has been given to LDF there. However, he also added, “This does not mean that we will support LDF everywhere.”

BJP’s entry, allegations more harsh
BJP has also jumped into this controversy. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrashekhar accused Left leaders of adopting a “double standard” and called it political hypocrisy. Rajeev Chandrashekhar said, “MA Baby should show his mind. When Pahalgam incident happened, MA Baby blamed the Indian government instead of condemning Pakistani terrorists. The real issue is how the current ministers of the Communist Party are accepting SDPI votes, as Shivankutty ji did. Today the Chief Minister is saying that we do not accept SDPI votes. This shows double standards and hypocrisy. There is a saying – the difference between the Chinese Communist Party and the Communist Party of India. This is that the Chinese Communist Party is nationalist, while the Indian Communist Party is anti-national. MA Baby and Sivankutty have proved this.

Why is this controversy important?
Kerala politics has traditionally been between LDF vs UDF, but BJP is also presenting a strong challenge on some seats this time. In such a situation, the support of organizations like SDPI can affect the electoral mathematics, especially in close contests. This issue may gain further prominence before the voting on April 9.

What is SDPI?
The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) is a political party, generally considered to be the political wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI). PFI was banned by the Central Government in 2022, after which the activities of SDPI came into more discussion. SDPI describes itself as the voice of social justice, rights of minorities, Dalits and backward classes. The party is active in many states, especially Kerala and Karnataka, and also fields candidates in elections. However, controversies and allegations and counter-allegations have often arisen regarding its political stance and alleged relationships.

The BJP, which made a dent in the Left stronghold of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation in Kerala for the first time, has suffered a major setback when the party lost an important by-election. Due to this, the party has missed the majority mark required to grab the chair of Municipal Corporation.

By-elections held after the death of an independent candidate

The matter is related to the by-election of Vizhinjam ward here. Here an independent candidate died before the elections, hence re-elections were held. In this, United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate KH Sudhir Khan defeated Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate N Naushad by 83 votes.

If we get support from independents then things will be resolved.

UDF got 2,902 votes. Whereas the LDF candidate got 2819 votes. At the same time, BJP’s Sarvashaktipuram Binu could get only 2437 votes and remained at the third position. Voting was held in Vizhinjam on Monday. Now BJP will have to depend on the support of independent councilors to get majority in the corporation. The magic figure of majority here is 51. BJP currently has 50 members in the 101-member council.

UDF has increased its number of seats in the municipal body from 19 to 20. This is double the number of seats won in 2015. Another ward slipped from CPI’s hands. The number of LDF seats in the municipal body remains 29.

Home Minister Amit Shah had claimed victory

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party will win the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala. He said in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (January 11, 2026) that the support of BJP in Kerala is continuously increasing. He expressed confidence that the party will form the government in the upcoming state elections to be held this year. He also thanked the workers for the increasing public support in urban and rural areas.

In the results of local body elections in Kerala, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a historic victory in Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. BJP has hoisted saffron in Thiruvananthapuram, which was the stronghold of Left Democratic Front (LDF) for four decades. This performance of BJP before the assembly elections in Kerala has created a stir in the politics of the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated BJP on this historic victory.

PM Modi expressed gratitude to the people of Kerala

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (December 13, 2025) shared a post on social media platform X and thanked the people of Thiruvananthapuram for their victory in the elections. He said, “I express my gratitude to all the people of the state who voted for BJP and NDA candidates in the local body elections held in Kerala. Kerala is now fed up with the UDF and LDF. The people of the state now consider NDA as the only option which can provide good governance and create a developed Kerala full of opportunities for all.”

PM Modi said in another post, “Thank you Thiruvananthapuram! The mandate given to BJP-NDA in Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation is a historic turning point in the politics of Kerala. People have full faith that only our party can fulfill the development aspirations of the state. Our party will work hard for the development of this vibrant city and improve the ease of living for the people.”

PM Modi congratulated BJP workers

My gratitude to all hardworking BJP Karyakartas who have worked among the people, which has ensured a spectacular result in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
Along with this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I express my gratitude and congratulations to all the hardworking BJP workers who worked among the public to ensure a spectacular election result in Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. Today is a day to remember the hard work and struggle of those workers who have been working at the grassroots level in Kerala for many generations, due to which this result has been possible today.” He said that our workers are our strength and we are proud of them.

Left got a big blow in Kerala

The victory of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and NDA candidates in the civic elections of Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram is being considered a big political blow for the Left parties, because the Left has been in control here for more than four decades. Apart from this, it is also a blow for Congress because Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has been elected MP from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat for four consecutive times.

Of the five municipal corporations in Kerala, four have been won by the Congress-led UDF, while one each has gone to the LDF and NDA. Talking about Municipal Council, UDF has won 54, LDF 28 and NDA has won one. In District Panchayat, LDF has won 7 and UDF has won 7.

The situation in the local municipal body elections in Kerala has now become quite clear. UDF has gained lead in this election. BJP has captured Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. BJP has snatched the chair from LDF which was in power here for four decades. Now on this, Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has expressed happiness and congratulated UDF Kerala.

He posted on X and wrote – What wonderful results there have been in the Kerala local body elections! The mandate is clear. The democratic spirit of the state is clearly visible in this. Congratulations to UDF Kerala for this impressive victory. The party has received considerable support. There are powerful signals ahead of the assembly elections in the state. Hard work, a strong message and an anti-incumbency wave, all together have given much better results than in 2020.

Congratulations to BJP on Thiruvananthapuram victory

‘I also want to acknowledge the historic performance of BJP in Thiruvananthapuram. I humbly congratulate him on his important victory in the City Municipal Corporation. It’s a strong performance, reflecting a remarkable change in the capital’s political landscape. I had campaigned for a change from 45 years of LDF misgovernance, but voters have rewarded another party.

This is the beauty of democracy. People’s decision should be respected. Be it for UDF or BJP in my constituency.

He said, we will continue to work for the betterment of Kerala. Will continue to advocate for the needs of the people. Will maintain the principles of good governance. Keep moving forward.
