The company has demanded three LNG cargoes for delivery from the last week of April to mid-May. This information has been given in a document released on the company’s website. According to this issued notice, suppliers have been asked to submit their offers by Friday. It is believed that this step has been taken in view of the increasing shortage of gas, so that it can be supplied on time.

PNG Connection: The effect of the ongoing tension in the Middle East is being seen in India also. Petrel- People are troubled by the shortage of diesel and gas cylinders. Now considering these circumstances, the government has prepared its master plan. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas itself has recently informed about this. The ministry has said that now PNG pipelines will be laid to avoid gas shortage.

Information given by the ministry
According to news agency ANI, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has ordered that a framework be prepared for laying PNG pipes. The ministry said, ‘This order is expected to accelerate the development of PNG network, improve last-mile connectivity and support the transition to clean fuels, thereby strengthening energy security and boosting India’s gas-based economy.’

Considering the current geographical situation, the government has taken several measures to reduce the impact on LPG supply. The ministry has said that, ‘No report of supply shortage has been received from LPG distributors and online LPG booking in industries has increased to about 98 percent.

Domestic LPG cylinder delivery is normal
Currently, to prevent illegal supply, Delivery Authentication Code (DCA) based deliveries have been increased to approximately 93%. In this regard, the ministry said, ‘Domestic LPG cylinder delivery remains normal. More than 52.3 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered on 11.04.2026. The government also said it has taken steps to increase commercial LPG supply, increasing the total allocation to approximately 70% of pre-crisis levels, including 10% reform-related allocation.

Workers will get 5 kg cylinder
Apart from this, the government has also said that they have doubled the supply of 5 kg FTL cylinders. Migrant laborers and students will easily get this. They will not even need any address proof for this. Rather, they will get FTL just by showing their ID.

LPG Shortage: There is a shortage of LPG gas for the last several days, due to which the government has also taken a big decision. Under this decision, now the industries running in the states will get LPG within the limit. For which the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has also instructed the states to limit the supply of gas for industrial use.

The government has taken this step with the aim of removing the problems related to the supply of LPG. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed states to allocate 70% of non-domestic LPG to other sectors, along with limiting the supply to industrial users. Apart from this, the government has also launched another scheme keeping the reforms in mind, under which additional 10% allocation of LPG will be given to the states that are actively promoting alternative fuels like PNG.

Industrial supplies will be limited
One of the main reasons for giving this instruction is to control industrial consumption. Many sectors like pharma, processing food, steel, glass, ceramics, packaging and chemicals will now be given only 70% of the pre-March 2026 bulk LPG consumption level. Additionally, this supply is capped at 0.2 metric tons per day, effectively limiting the total quantity available to industries. This decision of the government will have a greater impact on those industries which are completely dependent on LPG.

These companies will get LPG first
After this decision of the government, first of all LPG will be given to those factories or companies where natural gas cannot be used. Along with this, companies will have to register with OMCS i.e. oil companies and will have to apply to urban gas distribution companies for PNG connection. After this decision, those states will benefit more which will promote the connection of PNG gas.

The situation has become more serious amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Food and Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that now the allocation will be based on the average consumption of the last three months and the daily supply has been increased from 20% to 50%. Question 1: What changes has the Delhi government made in the policy of commercial LPG cylinders?

answer: Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced the revised policy on Friday. Now the allocation of commercial LPG cylinders will be decided on the basis of the average consumption of the last three months of the consumers. Earlier it was 20% of the average consumption, now it has been increased to 50%. Instead of 1,800 cylinders (equivalent to 19 kg) daily, now 4,500 cylinders will be available.

In simple words, how many cylinders you have used in the last three months will be calculated. Then on this basis you will get the next cylinder.

Question 2: Why was this change made?

answer: Due to the ongoing war in West Asia, oil marketing companies had limited commercial LPG supply to 20% on March 4, 2026. Now when the situation became normal, the government increased it. Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that priority will be given to essential services like health, education and migrant laborers who do not have valid gas connections.

Question 3: How many cylinders will be distributed daily and how will they be distributed?

answer: A total of 4,500 cylinders (equivalent to 19 kg) will be distributed daily. Of these:

• Current 20% allocation: 1,800 cylinders
• Extra 10% Allocation: 900 cylinder
• Extra 20% Sectoral Allocation: 1,800 cylinders

Two methods have been devised for this. In the first method, 7 categories have been kept, which will get 5 kg cylinder. On the other hand, excluding 7 categories, 19 kg cylinders will be allotted.

1. In the allocation of 19 kg cylinders (except Category 7), IOCL will have 58% share, BPCL 27%, HPCL 15%.
2. For 5 kg cylinder (only for Category 7), gas will be taken from IOCL 32.5%, HPCL 32%, BPCL 35.5%.

Question 4: How will the allocation be distributed among the 7 categories?

answer: The central government has created a systematic category for cylinder allocation.

Question 5: What are the two priority sectors?

answer: Category 1 and Category 7. Category 1 will get 100% cylinders as per its entire requirement. If the need is more, then it will be given to them by making deduction from Category 3 (hotel-dhaba). Under Category 7, migrant laborers will get 180 cylinders (19 kg equivalent, i.e. about 684 cylinders of 5 kg) per day as ‘Protected Social Allocation’.

Question 6: How will migrant laborers get 5 kg cylinder?

answer: Only on written request. The consumer will have to submit his application to the distributor on official letterhead. The distributor will issue a system generated invoice or cash memo and take acknowledgment of delivery. To prevent diversion, companies will keep complete records of workers (including Aadhar card).

Question 7: What are the other terms of cylinder delivery?

answer: All commercial consumers are required to register with OMC or complete an application for PNG connection with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) (whether PNG network or not). In case of shortage of supply, they will be distributed on FIFO (First In, First Out) basis. Companies will have to send category-wise reports to the department by 11 am every day.

Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has appealed to the people not to fall prey to rumours. He said, ‘The situation is completely normal. The supply through OMC is going on smoothly. I request people not to spread rumours.

This change is a relief news for Delhi’s hotels, dhabas, hospitals, schools and workers. Now cylinders will be available after seeing the average consumption, no sector will be troubled without any reason. The supply has increased as soon as the policy was implemented. PIB’s press release states that India is the world’s 4th largest refiner and 5th largest exporter of petroleum products, supplying refined fuel to more than 150 countries. Since India is a net exporter to the world, the availability of domestic petrol and diesel is structurally assured. All over one lakh retail fuel outlets across the country are open and distributing fuel without any interruption.

How many days of stock left? The government told

The government said that contracts for the supply of crude oil for the next 60 days have already been signed by Indian oil companies. India has a total reserve capacity of 74 days and the actual stock cover is currently around 60 days. This also includes crude oil, products and dedicated strategic reserves in caves, while we are on the 27th day of the Middle East crisis. The purchase of crude oil for the next 2 months has also been secured.

There is no shortage of LPG in the country: Government

The government has clarified that there is no shortage of LPG in the country. Following the LPG control order issued by the Ministry, domestic refinery production has increased by 40%, taking the daily LPG production to 50 TMT i.e. more than 60% of our requirement against the total daily requirement of about 80 TMT. Oil companies are successfully delivering more than 50 lakh cylinders every day. Due to panic orders by consumers, the demand for cylinders had reached 89 lakh cylinders and now has come down again to 50 lakh cylinders.

Middle East Tensions: The global energy crisis is deepening due to increasing tension in the Middle East. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has also assured that there is no shortage of fuel in the country and the supply remains stable. The company has appealed to the customers to maintain normal consumption and not be influenced by rumours.

No shortage of petrol and diesel

However, the war in West Asia has affected global supplies, especially in the case of LNG and LPG. There have been some disruptions in the supply of LNG due to gas facilities of major suppliers like Qatar being affected. In such a situation, priority is being given to domestic consumers and CNG, while the supply for industrial sectors like fertilizers has been limited.

LPG has been most affected by this crisis, because India imports about 60% of its total demand, a large part of which comes from Gulf countries. In the current situation, the government has given priority to domestic LPG and has limited the supply of LPG for commercial use like hotels and restaurants.

The gas shortage has had the biggest impact on the hotel and restaurant business. At some places food is being cooked on wood stoves and at other places induction stoves are being used.

Bhupesh Sahu, manager of Amrit Veg restaurant located on Raipur-Nagpur National Highway, says that due to shortage of gas, many items have had to be removed from the menu of the restaurant. He told that it does not seem right to send customers back empty handed, so now they have to cook food on wood stove also.

Similarly, Rasoi restaurant manager Brajesh Tank is also troubled by the gas crisis. He says that business is being directly affected due to non-availability of commercial cylinders.

Many times customers are not able to get the food of their choice, due to which the sales of the restaurant are also decreasing. He said that the situation has become such that like in olden times, we have to make do by cooking food on wood stoves.

Gas shortage is affecting not only the businessmen but also the customers. Amit Baghel, who reached the restaurant in Raipur to celebrate his father’s birthday, said that he had come to celebrate the happy occasion with his family, but many things are not available in the menu here. He said that there is already a problem due to lack of gas at home and now we are not able to get our favorite food even outside.

Long queues outside agencies

Such pictures are emerging from many cities of Chhattisgarh where long lines of people are standing outside the gas agencies. Many people stand outside the agency since morning with cylinders, but even after waiting for hours, the cylinder is not available. Due to this, people’s problems are increasing further.

Now politics has also intensified regarding the shortage of LPG. Congress leaders have targeted the government on this issue. Former mayor of Rajnandgaon Hema Deshmukh says that the government is claiming that there is no shortage of gas, but in reality people are worried. They allege that even cylinder booking has been stopped at many places and OTP is not reaching the places where booking is being done.

Government claims, situation will improve soon

However, the government says that the supply of gas will soon become normal and the supply of commercial cylinders will also be resumed.
