A fire broke out in the cemetery of Reza Mosque in Mashhad city where Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was buried. It is being told that there is a fire in the workshop there. Why is the funeral taking place after four months?

Usually in Muslim tradition burial is done within 24 hours of death, but here the funeral is taking place after four months. There are three big reasons for this:

1. The body was badly injured. Ali Khamenei’s body was so disintegrated in the attack that he could be identified only after a DNA test.
2. Iran was at war at that time, so it was difficult to organize such a big event.
