Pakistan court has extended the interim bail of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The court has extended the interim bail till January 27. The court on Tuesday heard the May 9 violence case of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. During this, orders were given to increase the interim bail in other cases including violence. Also, Imran has been instructed to participate in the next hearing personally through visual hearing.

Instructions to Imran to appear in the hearing on January 27

According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, this order has been given by the bench of Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka. He heard the bail petitions before the arrest. Advocate Shamsa Kayani appeared on behalf of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Due to the absence of the former Prime Minister, the debate on the petitions was not taken forward. The court has extended the interim bail and fixed the hearing date as January 27. Besides, the court has also ordered to ensure the presence of Imran Khan in the next hearing.

Apart from cases related to the violence on May 9, several other cases including attempt to murder, alleged submission of fake receipts have been registered against Imran Khan. Apart from this, a separate case has been registered against Bushra Bibi for submitting fake receipts related to Toshakhana gifts. In a related development, the next hearing in the case of the already filed arrest petition has been fixed for January 27.

Lawyer not given permission to meet Imran

PTI lawyer Khalid Yousuf Chaudhary has not been allowed to meet Imran Khan. The lawyer in the court had said that he could get her signature on the power of attorney documents required to file an appeal against the recent conviction in the Toshakhana case.

Here, citing rights, the party alleged that jail officials are preventing Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi from meeting their lawyer in Adiala jail to sign the power of attorney. The party has said that making the PTI founder’s lawyer wait for hours, closing the legal desk and not providing the facility to execute the power of attorney was a deliberate attempt to prevent access to justice.

The party said- signing and filing appeal is a legal right

PTI said that under Punjab Prison Rules 1978, 178 and 179, every prisoner has the legal right to meet his lawyer, sign legal documents and file appeals. Jail authorities have no right to obstruct this process. The party further alleged that denial of the right of appeal is a violation of Articles 10-A, 4, 9 and 25 of the Constitution.

In the manifesto issued after the two-day National Consultative Conference, the opposition has decided to observe ‘Black Day’ (Yaum-e-Siyah) on February 8, 2026, which will be the second anniversary of alleged rigging in the 2024 general elections. Local media has reported this. According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, on this day chakka jam and shutter down strike was announced across the country, along with an appeal was made to protest at the international level and celebrate Black Day.

TTAP, which includes Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) and other opposition parties, demanded at the conference that fair elections be held, independent appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), and smooth transfer of power be ensured. It calls for an independent investigation, calling the February 8, 2024 elections rigged, and demanding that those responsible be identified and punished.

According to Geo media outlet, the coalition said that political instability has deepened the economic crisis, and immediate steps should be taken to protect civil rights and vital institutions. The opposition has described the 2024 elections as ‘fraudulent’ and the current government as ‘illegitimate’.

Condemned the sentence awarded to PTI chief Imran Khan and his wife. Along with this, he was also surprised at the misbehavior of Imran Khan’s sisters, which included incidents of pulling their hair and allegedly using chemical water cannons.

The alliance demanded the release of all political prisoners, including Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ajaz Chaudhary, Yasmin Rashid, Sarfaraz Cheema, Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Ali Wazir, Haji Abdul Samad and Wali Mohammed.

Meanwhile, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that economic decline, inflation and unemployment have increased, while despair among the people has increased. He said the crisis could have been mitigated through collective dialogue with stakeholders, but mismanagement has made the situation worse.

Former PTI leader Imran Khan, who is in jail, had earlier also announced observing Black Day on the first anniversary of the 2024 elections (February 8, 2025), which was sparked by nationwide protests. This time TTAP plans to make it more widespread, including protests in international cities like London. PTI said, ‘Fascist activities of Punjab Police have started once again. The workers who were peacefully protesting outside Adiala Jail in extreme cold were attacked with water cannons. These cowardly actions will neither be able to suppress our voice nor reduce our morale.

In another post, PTI said, ‘His family was put on strike as they were not allowed to meet him. Using water cannon against peaceful protests is not only a brazen violation of Imran Khan’s prisoner rights, but also a direct attack on the constitutional rights of the people who gathered to protest the government’s atrocities.

PTI has appealed to the International Human Rights Organization to intervene in the matter. According to local media reports, Imran Khan’s sister Alima Khan and PTI members started protesting outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday. Earlier, an anti-terrorism court of Pakistan on Monday rejected the petition of Alima Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in which she had requested to drop the charges against her under the anti-terrorism law. These charges are part of the case registered against Alima for participating in the protests called by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in November 2024.

The case was registered at Sadiqabad police station in Rawalpindi, in which 11 people including Alima were made accused and accused of illegal protest, anti-government sloganeering, vandalism and stone pelting. Alima had approached the Rawalpindi-based anti-terrorism court, requesting to drop terrorism charges under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Pakistan government announced the implementation of Section 144 in Rawalpindi district. Qasim Khan wrote in a social media post, ‘Father has been kept in custody for 845 days. For the last six weeks, he has been kept in solitary confinement in the death cell. Despite court orders, officials are refusing all meetings. No evidence of his life has been found.

Apart from this, Qasim wrote, ‘This is a blackout, there is no security protocol. This is an attempt to hide his condition. If anything happens to them, the Pakistani government and its handlers will be held responsible.

Qasim has appealed to Human Rights Organization and Democratic governments to intervene in the whole matter.

Imran’s sister Noreen Niazi said that there is too much censorship on the media. Journalists and media owners are being detained. Being threatened to remain silent. The petition refers to the March 24 order of the Islamabad High Court, in which the court had given permission to meet Imran Khan twice a week. Imran Khan is lodged in Adiyal jail since August 2023. It specifically mentions not being allowed to meet Imran Khan.

The petition said that despite the instructions to allow meetings on Tuesday and Thursday, the defendants did not follow it nor implement it. The petition also states that Alima has been extremely concerned about her brother’s well-being, legal rights and humane treatment since he went to jail.

Those named in the petition include Adiyal Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, Officer-in-charge of Sadar Beroni police station Raja Aijaz Azim, Federal Home Secretary Captain (retd) Mohammad Khurram Aga and Punjab Home Department Secretary Noorul Amin. Apart from this, if he did not meet the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Afridi said that his party will not allow the Parliament session to continue.
