What is Al-Badr?
Al-Badr is a Pakistan-backed terrorist organization, which was banned by the Indian government in 2002. This organization was formed in 1998. Its declared objective is said to be to separate Jammu and Kashmir from India and merge it with Pakistan.

Al-Badr’s headquarters is believed to be in Mansehra, Pakistan, while its camp office is said to be in Muzaffarabad PoK. It has been reported that the training camps of the organization are being operated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kotli and Muzaffarabad areas of Pakistan.

According to Indian agencies, Al-Badr has close relations with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and Jamaat-e-Islami. Security experts believe that this organization has sometimes been working as a ‘front network’ of terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Masood Azhar was born on 10 July 1968 in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Studied in a madrasa in Karachi and fought against Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Later joined Harkat-ul-Ansar organization. In February 1994, he came to India on a fake Portuguese passport and tried to spread jihad and recruit terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Was arrested in Anantnag and remained in jail from 1994 to 1999. First he stayed in Srinagar, then in Delhi’s Tihar and finally in Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal jail.
