A sensational audio clip of Masood Azhar, the leader of Pakistan’s terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed, is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this audio, Masood Azhar himself is confessing for the first time that in the 1990s, he and his fellow prisoners were trying to escape from Jammu’s high security Kot Bhalwal jail by digging a tunnel.

Masood Azhar was born on 10 July 1968 in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Studied in a madrasa in Karachi and fought against Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Later joined Harkat-ul-Ansar organization. In February 1994, he came to India on a fake Portuguese passport and tried to spread jihad and recruit terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Was arrested in Anantnag and remained in jail from 1994 to 1999. First he stayed in Srinagar, then in Delhi’s Tihar and finally in Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal jail.

After the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in December 1999, the Indian government released him in exchange for the release of the passengers.
