Benefits of Giloy: A recent scientific study has confirmed that the best time to harvest Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) is monsoon i.e. rainy season. According to this research published in ‘BMC Plant Biology’, the medicinal elements in the stem of Giloy are at their peak during the rainy days. This study has been done by Acharya Balkrishna and his team of Patanjali Research Foundation, which has put the seal of science on the age-old knowledge of Ayurveda.

What does the research say?

Scientists of Haridwar-based Patanjali Research Foundation conducted research on Giloy plants for 24 consecutive months from 2022 to 2024. They collected Giloy stem samples every other month and examined them using modern techniques (UHPLC-PDA and HPTLC). Investigation revealed that the quantity of three major bioactive compounds of Giloy – cordifolioside A, magnoflorin and beta-ecdysone was found to be highest in the month of August.

The properties decrease in winter. It was also observed in the study that the quantity of these beneficial elements in Giloy decreases to the minimum during the winter season, especially between December and February. At the same time, this quantity remains at moderate level in spring and summer. This finding is important because Giloy is used in many diseases like fever, increasing immunity and reducing inflammation. If it is plucked in the right season then the medicines made from it will prove to be more effective.

The maximum temperature will be around 31 and minimum 18 degrees Celsius. No significant change is expected in the weather today in other districts of UP including Ghaziabad, Mathura, Kanpur, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Aligarh, Rampur, Bareilly.

Chances of snowfall in the mountains
There is a possibility of increase in cold in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. Due to this, there will be increase in cold in the plains also. There are chances of snowfall in high altitude areas on Tuesday and Wednesday. Light rain may occur in some parts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts on 4-5 November. There is a possibility of snowfall in the mountainous areas at an altitude of more than 4000 meters.
