BJP government in Bengal for the first time after independence
Saturday (May 9) has become a historic day in Bengal politics because for the first time after independence, BJP government has been formed in Bengal. On this special occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, many Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states were present. On Saturday (May 9) in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari took oath as the Chief Minister. Along with him, 5 more ministers took oath. The ministers who took oath include Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtaniya, Khudiram Tudu and Nishith Pramanik. Through this initial small cabinet, BJP has tried to convey the message of achieving social and regional balance.

Nishith Pramanik, who was once the deputy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has now become a minister in West Bengal. To run the power in Bengal, BJP has given preference to militant faces including Shubhendu Adhikari. Agnimitra Paul represents South Bengal and is a woman, while Nishith Pramanik is from the Rajvanshi community and represents North Bengal.

Who is Nishith Pramanik?
Nishith Pramanik passed 10th from Bhetaguri Lal Bahadur Shastri Vidyapeeth Dinhata under State Board in 2001. He was an assistant teacher in a primary school. He is married to Priyanka Pramanik, with whom he has two sons. Nishith started his political career with Trinamool Congress, but in 2019 he left Trinamool Congress and joined BJP.

First time MP from BJP
In the year 2019, he became an MP for the first time by winning the Lok Sabha elections from BJP. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Information Technology and a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. In 2021, he was elected MLA from Dinhata, Bengal. However, he resigned from the post of MLA to remain an MP. He has served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs as well as the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

After the cabinet reshuffle in July 2021, he became the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Youth Affairs and Sports. By 2021, at the age of 35, he became the youngest minister in the Modi cabinet. He lost in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In the 2026 assembly elections, he became a candidate from Mathabhanga and emerged victorious.

West Bengal New CM: Home Minister Amit Shah made a big announcement after the BJP legislature party meeting in West Bengal, saying that Suvendu Adhikari will be the next Chief Minister of the state. Subhendu Adhikari was formally elected the leader of the legislature party in a meeting held at Biswa Bangla Convention Center in Kolkata.

Shah became emotional in his address and said that BJP workers in Bengal faced a long struggle and violence. He claimed that 321 party workers lost their lives, but the morale of the workers never broke. Shah said, “I have no words to describe the support that the people of Bengal have given this time.”

He said that out of 23 districts, BJP has emerged as the number-1 party in 20 districts. Specially mentioning Jhargram, Bankura and Darjeeling, Shah said that all the seats in these areas have gone to BJP’s account. He also thanked the people of Bhawanipur and said that Shubhendu Adhikari had first defeated Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram and now has given a historic victory to BJP in Bengal.

This victory of BJP is being seen as a big change in the politics of Bengal. The party is going to form the government for the first time after staying away from power in the state for a long time. Shah described it as “a victory of the sacrifice of the workers and the trust of the public”.

Grand preparations for swearing in, PM Modi will attend

Preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government at the Brigade Parade Ground on Saturday, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to attend. While addressing his last election rally for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 on April 27, PM Modi had expressed confidence of BJP’s victory. Addressing a huge gathering at Jagaddal in North 24 Parganas district, PM Modi had said, “This is my last rally in this election. I am returning with the confidence that after the results on May 4, I will definitely attend the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP.”

Traffic advisory for swearing in

In view of Narendra Modi’s visit to Kolkata on May 9 and the swearing-in ceremony of the new government of West Bengal, Kolkata Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory. In view of this program to be organized at the Brigade Parade Ground, traffic will be controlled on many major roads from 4 am to 8 pm.

As per the notification issued by Ajay Nand Esplanade Ramp, K.P. Road, Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Casuarina Avenue and Queensway, traffic will be regulated as per need. Parking will be completely prohibited in Victoria Memorial and its surrounding areas.

Apart from this, movement of all other goods vehicles except those carrying LPG, CNG, petroleum, medicines, vegetables, fruits, fish and milk will also be banned from 4 am to 8 pm. Police have said that during the VVIP movement, traffic on many routes may be temporarily diverted or closed.
