Thalapathy Vijay MLA Seats : Tamil cinema superstar Thalapathy Vijay has given such a political performance in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections which has attracted the attention of the entire country. His party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), contesting elections for the first time, changed the equation of Tamil Nadu politics by winning more than 100 seats in the 234-member assembly. Vijay himself contested from two seats, Perambur seat and Tiruchirapalli East seat and won both the places, but now the biggest question arising is whether Vijay will get double salary for winning two seats. The discussion on this question has intensified on social media. The question in the minds of people is that when a leader becomes MLA from two places, does he get the salary and facilities of both the seats. So let us know whether Thalapathy Vijay, who was elected MLA from two places, will get double salary and what is the rule regarding this.

Will Vijay get double salary?

In India, an MLA or MP gets the salary and facilities of only one post. A leader may win from two seats, but he cannot remain the MLA from both the seats. Therefore, he will get salary, allowances and government facilities only according to one seat.

What does the law say?

Election related rules in India are decided under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. According to this law, a candidate can contest from maximum two seats in one election. Earlier there was no such rule. Before 1996, leaders used to contest elections from multiple seats, but later the law was changed and a maximum limit of two seats was fixed. In such a situation, if a candidate wins from two seats, he cannot keep both the seats with himself. He has to give up one seat within the stipulated time. If he does not do so, both the seats can be considered vacant.

Also read – DMK Congress Alliance: Are there rules for breaking political alliance, can DMK complain to Congress?

Why do leaders contest elections from two seats?

Political parties and big leaders contest elections from two seats for many strategic reasons. If there is defeat on one seat then victory on the other seat is assured. Vijay chose two seats to show his hold in both Chennai and Central Tamil Nadu regions. By fighting at two places, the party gets advantage on nearby seats also.

Which seat can Vijay keep?

Till now Vijay has not made any official announcement. But Vijay can keep such a seat from where the party can get more political benefits in future. On the seat which Vijay will leave, re-election i.e. by-election will be held there. According to law, by-elections are usually held within 6 months. After Vijay’s victory, the debate on ‘One Candidate, One Constituency’ i.e. one candidate, one seat has again intensified. Many people believe that contesting elections from two seats puts additional burden on democracy.

Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has called it a historic election after the completion of the first phase of elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. He said, ‘Since independence, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have shown the highest voting percentage in this election. The Election Commission salutes every voter of Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

A single phase of voting took place in the state, in which more than 5.73 crore voters will decide the fate of more than 4,000 candidates.

Assembly Elections 2026: Congress Party National President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) has given a big statement regarding the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, due to which a big controversy has arisen in political circles. In fact, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has called PM Narendra Modi a ‘terrorist’. At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned this statement of Kharge. BJP said that till now Congress has insulted the Prime Minister by abusing him 175 times. He should apologize for this.

Kharge gave controversial statement in Chennai

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has given this controversial statement in a press conference held in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, while criticizing AIADMK’s alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, after this controversy escalated, he also clarified his statement. He said, ‘How can these AIADMK people, who put up Annadurai’s own picture, go along with Modi? He is a terrorist. His party does not believe in equality and justice. These people are associating with them, it means that they are weakening democracy.

He further said, ‘You need such leaders who will not bow down before BJP and fight boldly and he is MK Stalin. Today AIADMK has lost its identity. It has become a silent ally of BJP. It cannot protect the interests of Tamil Nadu because it has become a slave of PM Modi.

Clarifying his comments on PM Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, ‘He (PM Modi) is scaring people and political parties. I never said he was a terrorist. I mean, I want to make it clear that Modi always threatens. Institutions like ED, IT and CBI are in their hands. He also wants to take delimitation into his hands.

Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday (April 20, 2026) made a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by taking the name of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He accused Nitish Kumar of being compromised and because of his past decisions, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is able to completely control him.

Under the control of Shah-Modi who control AIADMK- Rahul

Addressing an election rally in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, Rahul Gandhi said that BJP removed Nitish Kumar from the post of Chief Minister and installed a person of his choice because Nitish had compromised and did not protest after being sent to Rajya Sabha.

The Congress leader said, ‘Those who control AIADMK are completely under the control of Amit Shah and Mr Narendra Modi.
Voting for the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu will take place on April 23, 2026. This time, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has also entered the electoral fray to take on the ruling DMK and opposition AIADMK in the state assembly elections. However, in two pre-poll surveys released before the assembly elections, the ruling DMK alliance is likely to win.

What was revealed in the survey?

According to the survey conducted by Lok Poll from March 1, 2026 to April 1, 2026, Chief Minister M.K. The Stalin-led alliance DMK is likely to win around 181 to 189 seats out of the total 234 seats in the state and is expected to get 40.1% vote share. Whereas the opposition AIADMK led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to win 38 to 42 seats in the state. Its estimated vote share is 29%.

At the same time, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), which is contesting elections for the first time in the state, is also expected to get 8 to 10 seats and about 23.9% vote share. At the same time, the influence of NTK and other parties is likely to be limited, whose estimated vote share is 4.9% and 2.1% respectively.

Which party has more dominance among the public?

According to the survey, the most preferred face for the post of Chief Minister in Tamil Nadu is DMK chief MK Stalin, followed by TVK Chief Vijay and AIADMK’s Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s face.

The survey said that the main reason for the DMK alliance’s lead is its strong public welfare schemes, which include Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogoi, free bus travel and breakfast scheme. These schemes have had a special impact on women in rural and semi-urban areas. Also, the biggest advantage for DMK is that the opposition votes are being divided between NDA and TVK. At the same time, Vijay’s party TVK is getting good support especially from the youth, first time voters and people dissatisfied with the government. However, due to contesting the elections alone, this support will not translate into much seats.

Whereas according to the survey, Edappadi K. AIADMK led by Palaniswami is facing internal troubles. Divisions in the party, lack of key leaders and weak organizational condition, especially in Delta and southern districts, are affecting its performance.

What is the condition of which party in the poll tracker data?

According to the Poll Tracker survey, the DMK alliance is expected to come to power again, in which it can get 172 to 178 seats and about 42.7% vote share. At the same time, AIADMK is expected to get 46 to 52 seats, which is far behind. Whereas TVK can get 6 to 12 seats with around 19.2% vote share. Moreover, NTK is projected to get 0 to 2 seats and around 5.1% vote share.

The survey said that due to the alliance of AIADMK and BJP, minority votes have inclined towards the DMK alliance. Apart from this, many communities including Mudaliar, Naidu and Muslim community are widely seen in favor of the DMK alliance.

Now the entry of film star-turned-politician Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026 has completely changed the contest. Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay conducted a vigorous roadshow after filing nomination on Monday (30), in which the crowd gathered on the streets was a clear indication of a new chapter being written in the politics of the state.

This time Vijay is contesting from two seats, Perambur and Trichy East. This decision in itself is a big political signal, because contesting elections from two seats is generally considered to be the strategy of big leaders. This is also an attempt to send the message that Vijay is not just contesting the elections, but is presenting a direct claim to power.

‘Vijay is emerging as a future leader’

TVK leader KA Sengottaiyan has made a big claim about Vijay. He said, ‘Vijay is emerging as a future leader who is capable of leading Tamil Nadu.’ He further said that Vijay’s popularity is increasing rapidly and people are seeing him as a strong option. According to him, no power can stop the public’s decision and change is certain in 2026.

Candidates on every seat, big stakes

This time TVK has fielded candidates on all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu and has also placed stake on 30 seats in Puducherry. This shows that the party has entered the fray not with the intention of doing a limited experiment, but with the intention of establishing a strong presence in the entire state. Sengottaiyan claims that only TVK can provide a clean and transparent government. He said that the party is focusing on issues like safety of women and providing employment to the youth which can prove to be decisive in the elections.

Desire for change among the public?

A big question is emerging amidst the current political equations in the state, do the people want change? According to Sengottaiyan, people are now expecting a new government and new leadership. The crowd gathered in the road show and the enthusiasm of the youth also gives strength to this claim to some extent. Vijay’s appeal seems to be increasing rapidly, especially in urban areas.

Contesting elections from two seats is a strategy or a compulsion?

There is also a strong discussion on Vijay contesting elections from two seats. On this Sengottaiyan said, ‘It is common for leaders to contest elections from two seats. Even former Chief Minister Jayalalitha had contested elections from two seats. This statement makes it clear that the party is presenting this as a general political strategy and not as a dilemma.

Will the election game of Tamil Nadu change?

Tamil Nadu politics has till now revolved around DMK and AIADMK, but Vijay’s entry has challenged this traditional equation. If TVK gets the support of young and first-time voters, this election could turn into a triangular contest which would make the results completely unpredictable.

The voting on 23rd April and the results on 4th May will decide how successful Vijay’s political move is. However, at present it is certain that this time the elections in Tamil Nadu are not only about power but also about the emergence of new leadership.

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections 2026: The date of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026 is getting closer. The election activity in the state is becoming equally intense and all the parties are releasing their manifestos one by one. Edappadi K yesterday. Palaniswami released the manifesto of AIADMK. He has made many well-known promises in this manifesto. This includes increasing the monthly cash assistance amount given to women from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000, giving a lump sum relief amount of Rs 10,000 to families, free bus travel for men, three free LPG cylinders every year, crop loan waiver, higher support price for paddy and subsidy on solar energy. The most important election promise of this manifesto includes giving a free refrigerator to every ration card holder etc. After the announcement of this manifesto, Palaniswami called it the hero of the elections.

DMK vs AIADMK in Tamil Nadu elections

Tamil Nadu has two major Dravidian parties, DMK and AIADMK, and both give priority to social welfare. AIADMK is fighting a tough election this time. The ruling DMK has not only promised welfare schemes but has also implemented many schemes. He has also continuously promoted these schemes. Be it women’s rights grants, morning breakfast programmes, free bus travel for women, cash transfers and loan waivers, all these are part of the government’s daily political propaganda.

The challenge before AIADMK’s Palaniswami is not to give a new shape to welfare politics, but to unseat the ruling party which is already in a strong position.

AIADMK is ahead of DMK in election announcement

The AIADMK manifesto appears to be an attempt to increase the demands. If DMK gives Rs 1,000, AIADMK will give Rs 2,000. Vijay’s TVK, which was making fun of free schemes in its initial months, has now announced to give Rs 2500. If relief is given from time to time, AIADMK will provide additional assistance of Rs 10,000 at a time. If there is free travel for women, AIADMK will give it to men also. Even the promise of free LPG remains intact, although reduced from six cylinders to three in 2021.

The scope of welfare schemes changed in the year 2006

In 2006, Karunanidhi’s color TV scheme became a global symbol of populism in Tamil Nadu. Then in the year 2011, Jayalalitha responded by giving laptops, grinders, mixers and fans and then many of them were distributed under the ‘Amma’ brand.

In the year 2016, he had also made many promises like free mobile phones, 100 units of free electricity, scooters at concessional rates for women, breakfast for children, gold for marriage assistance and many more.
