Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday (April 20, 2026) made a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by taking the name of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He accused Nitish Kumar of being compromised and because of his past decisions, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is able to completely control him.

Addressing an election rally in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, Rahul Gandhi said that BJP removed Nitish Kumar from the post of Chief Minister and installed a person of his choice because Nitish had compromised and did not protest after being sent to Rajya Sabha.

The Congress leader said, ‘Those who control AIADMK are completely under the control of Amit Shah and Mr Narendra Modi. Look what happened in Bihar, the CM was removed and a BJP man was installed. Why? This happened because the CM of Bihar was a compromised man. He did not say even a word and silently went to Rajya Sabha.

BJP wants a government in Tamil Nadu which remains under its control – Rahul
Citing the example of Bihar, he expressed concern about Tamil Nadu and said, ‘BJP wants to do the same in Tamil Nadu. They want a government they can control and a CM who will do exactly what he says, which we will never let them do. No matter what dreams they have, they will never be able to control the people and government of Tamil Nadu.
Elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu on 23 April
Elections are going to be held on 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu on Thursday (April 23, 2026). The Election Commission has decided to conduct Tamil Nadu elections in a single phase. After voting in the state, counting of votes and announcement of results will be done next month on May 4, 2026. The electoral contest in Tamil Nadu is believed to be between the DMK-led ruling alliance and the AIADMK-led NDA alliance, in which BJP and PMK are allies.
