Pakistan is going to ‘farewell’ from the United Nations Security Council. A major upset was seen in the UNSC elections held on Wednesday (June 3). Kyrgyzstan will become a member of the Security Council for the first time. At the same time, Austria, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago and Zimbabwe were also elected non-permanent members. His tenure will be for two years.

Pakistan’s tenure is ending at the end of this year. The newly elected member countries will replace Pakistan, Panama, Denmark, Greece and Somalia, whose tenure is ending. These countries will take up their seats from January 1, 2027 and will remain in the Council till December 31, 2028.

Two-thirds votes required for non-permanent member

To win the non-permanent seat of the Security Council, any candidate country has to get at least two-thirds of the votes of the member states present and voting in the United Nations General Assembly. If all 193 member countries are present and vote, then at least 129 votes are required for victory. The countries that abstain from voting are not considered included in the voting.

Elections held between 7 countries for 5 seats

News agency Xinhua said that this year a total of seven candidates were in the fray for five seats. Austria, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago and Zimbabwe were selected in the first round of voting. After this, three more rounds of voting took place, after which Kyrgyzstan defeated Philippines and secured the seat.

5 permanent and 10 non-permanent members in UNSC

There are a total of 15 members in the United Nations Security Council. Of these, Britain, China, France, Russia and America are five permanent members. The remaining ten members are non-permanent, whose seats are distributed on the basis of different geographical areas. Every year new members are elected to five of these seats. The newly selected five countries represent the African Group, the Asia-Pacific Group, the Latin American and Caribbean Group and the Western European and Other Countries Group.

What Trump feared happened, Speaker kept stopping, but motion against US President passed

UNSC is the powerful body of UN

The Eastern European Group seat was not up for election this time, as that seat, of which Latvia is currently a member until 2027, comes up for election every second year. The Security Council is considered the most powerful body of the United Nations. Its main function is to maintain peace and security in the world. The council can take legally binding decisions, impose sanctions and even allow the use of force if necessary.

Turkey openly announced friendship with Pakistan, said- ‘If India is angry then…’

India has expressed deep concern in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the situation in Afghanistan and strongly reprimanded Pakistan for this. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, while presenting India’s side in the meeting, reiterated New Delhi’s continuous support towards Afghanistan.

Referring to India’s long-standing and deep ties with Afghanistan, Ambassador Parvathaneni said that India is committed to supporting Afghans through development initiatives, health assistance and capacity building programs. He said that India has implemented more than 500 development partnership projects in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. India is continuously working with UN agencies in important areas like food security, education, healthcare and sports.

What did India say about refugees?
India also talked about the humanitarian pressures facing Afghanistan, especially the issue of return of refugees. Citing the report of the United Nations Secretary General, India appealed to the member countries to comply with international obligations. India stressed that the return of refugees should be voluntary, safe, dignified and with continuous assistance to resettle them in their communities.

Strongly criticized the sanctions
Apart from this, Parvathaneni strongly criticized the restrictions imposed on Afghanistan’s trade routes. Warned that such steps are extremely harmful for a country already facing serious economic challenges. Calling it commercial terrorism, he said blocking trade is condemnable and the weaknesses of a landlocked developing country should not be used as a weapon. At the end of the statement, India reiterated its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan.

America put an obstacle
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio took a big step and officially declared Afghanistan as State Sponsor of Unjust Detention. Along with this, he has demanded the Taliban to immediately release all American citizens who have been unjustly detained. In a statement issued on Monday, Rubio strongly criticized the Taliban, saying that the group continues to use terrorist tactics and kidnap people for ransom or to extract policy concessions.

Marco Rubio specifically called for the release of Dennis Coyle, Mahmoud Habibi, and all Americans currently unjustly detained in Afghanistan. Taliban has been asked to end this practice of hostage diplomacy forever.

United Nations Security Council: A big revelation has been made about Pakistan in the new report of the 1267 Sanctions Monitoring Committee of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). It has been clearly recorded in this report that the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) present in Pakistan had a direct connection with the terrorist attack on the historic Red Fort of Delhi.

This is being considered a big diplomatic victory for India because Pakistan has been claiming for a long time that the terrorist organizations operating from its soil have now been neutralized.

preparation to increase strength

According to the report, Jaish-e-Mohammed has not only carried out terrorist attacks in India, but is also increasing its strength and network. It has been told in the report that this organization is also working on a plan to create a special ‘women-only wing’, which has been named “Jamaat-ul-Muminaat”.

The report said, ‘A member country reported that Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility for several attacks. It has also been reported that he was linked to the attack on the Red Fort on November 9, in which 15 people died. On October 8, Jaish-e-Mohammed leader Maulana Masood Azhar Alvi had formally announced the formation of a women-only wing ‘Jamaat-ul-Muminaat’, the purpose of which was to support terrorist attacks.

Pakistan expressed objection on the report

The most interesting thing in this entire report was that Pakistan was the only country which lodged a protest when the name of Jaish-e-Mohammed was included. Pakistan said that this organization is now inactive. But other countries supported India’s stand and JeM continued to be mentioned in the report.

Shock to Pakistan also on BLA issue

Pakistan was disappointed not only in the case of Jaish but also in the case of Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Pakistan wanted the BLA to be included in the UNSC 1267 sanctions list by linking it to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and thus to al-Qaeda or ISIL. But the report did not accept this point of Pakistan.

The report said that BLA had carried out an ambush in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), in which 32 Pakistani soldiers were killed. It has also been clearly stated that some countries believe that there is neither any relationship between Balochistan Liberation Army and Al-Qaeda or ISIL nor is any such relationship growing.

America, Britain and France break on China-Pakistan efforts

Pakistan and China had jointly proposed to include BLA in the UN terrorist list. But America, Britain and France have put a technical ban on this proposal. This is the same method that China has previously used in its proposals against India’s Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Pakistan has suffered a major setback in the recent report of the 1267 Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). In the report, the name of terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operating in Pakistan has been linked to the attack on Delhi’s Red Fort on November 9.

According to the report, Jaish-e-Mohammed had claimed responsibility for various terrorist incidents and its role has been recorded in the attack on Red Fort in Delhi. The importance of the 1267 Committee report also increases because this committee is responsible for imposing sanctions on global terrorists and organizations. This report also indicated that Jaish-e-Mohammed is still active, whereas one member country had claimed that this organization has become inactive. On the basis of the facts available in the report, the committee has rejected this claim.

Masood Azhar’s new announcement

The report also includes an important information of October 8. According to this, Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar announced the formation of a new women’s wing named Jamaat-ul-Mominat. It has been told that the purpose of this wing is to cooperate in terrorist activities. Masood Azhar is already included in the UN sanctions list and is subject to an international travel ban, asset freeze and arms embargo.

increased pressure on pakistan

The mention of Jaish-e-Mohammed’s activism in the UNSC 1267 Committee report is believed to increase international pressure on Pakistan. India has long been alleging that Pakistan’s land is used for anti-India terrorist activities. This report has come at a time when the demand for adopting a strict stance against terrorism is increasing on global forums. The comments of the 1267 Committee may affect Pakistan’s accountability and possible diplomatic pressure on it in the future.

US President Donald Trump has once again taken a big step in international politics. Eight major Muslim countries on Wednesday (21 January 2026) announced to join the Board of Peace formed by Trump. With this decision, a new debate has started regarding the arrangement after the Gaza war and the resolution of global disputes.

Muslim countries included in Trump’s Board of Peace include Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. All these countries have agreed to send their representatives to the board. This board has been created under a special mandate of the United Nations Security Council, whose primary objective is to monitor the post-war situation in Gaza. The time limit of this board has been fixed till 2027.

Trump’s big plan ahead of Gaza

Although the current focus of the board is Gaza, Donald Trump does not want to limit it only to this area. Trump intends to make this platform a center for resolving major disputes and conflicts around the world in the future. For this reason, he has emphasized on including those countries which are considered to have influence in global politics.

Why America is considering this as its diplomatic victory

The most special thing about this board is that it will be headed by Donald Trump himself for life. To become a permanent member, each country will have to pay a membership fee of one billion dollars. The board will hold a limited number of meetings a year, while a separate Gaza Executive Board has been formed to handle Gaza-related matters.

Linking Saudi Arabia to this initiative is being considered a major diplomatic achievement for Trump. Trump had been appealing to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to join this board for a long time. After Riyadh’s consent, the White House is presenting it as a major success.

Russia’s entry increased the stir

Meanwhile, Trump has also revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted the invitation to join this board. According to Trump, only those people who have real power and influence will be included in the board. He said in a joking tone that if only weak or ineffective people are kept in it, no concrete results will be achieved.

Concern increased in western countries

There is uneasiness visible in many western countries regarding this initiative of Trump. Some diplomats believe that this board could weaken the traditional role of the United Nations. The Prime Minister of Slovenia has made it clear that his country will not be a part of this board. They argue that its scope is too wide and it could harm the existing structure of the United Nations.

Common message of Muslim countries

The eight Muslim countries included in the board have said in a joint statement that they are supporters of a just and lasting peace based on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and an independent state. He believes that this initiative can prove to be an important step towards stability and security in West Asia.

How many countries have received invitation

According to the information, invitations have been sent to about 60 countries to join the ‘Board of Peace’. Israel, Egypt, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Morocco, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam have already agreed to join. Whereas Sweden, Norway and Italy have distanced themselves from this board. Spain says that European countries are deciding a collective stand on this issue.

Pope also got invitation

This initiative can be gauged from the fact that Pope Leo has also been invited to join the Board of Peace. The Vatican has said that this proposal is being considered and no decision will be taken without a complete review.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday (January 19, 2026) once again gave a big statement regarding the reform of the Security Council (UNSC). He has again extended his support to the initiative to reform the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). His step has been described as very important and an urgent one. However, it is important to know what significance this step of the United Nations Secretary General holds for India.

At present India is not a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). India has been wanting its permanent participation in the Security Council for a long time. India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has even said that India gives the highest priority to this goal.

What did Antonio Guterres say about reform in UNSC?

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made a post on the social media platform X on Monday (January 19, 2026). In the post, Guterres said, ‘Reforming the Security Council is not only important, but it is essential. Those who try to cling to these privileges today may have to pay the price tomorrow. We all have to be bold enough to make change. He said, ‘The world is not waiting. Neither should we.

What did the Foreign Minister say on India’s permanent membership in UNSC?

India’s Foreign Minister S. While addressing the Parliament in the year 2024, Jaishankar had said, ‘India strongly believes that it has all the qualifications to become a permanent member of a reformed and expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reflecting contemporary global realities.’

Antonio Guterres has told India to be important for the UN system

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric have earlier also described India as an important part of the UN System. He had said last year, ‘India is a very important part of the United Nations system. He is a strong supporter of multilateralism. The Secretary General has very good relations with the Indian Government. Many citizens of Indian origin work with us here. India’s voice is very important in the United Nations system.

The United Nations Security Council has supported US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza. There is also a proposal in this plan to send international troops to Gaza. 13 countries supported the vote on Monday (November 17), including Britain, France and Somalia. However, no one opposed, while Russia and China did not vote.

The objective of this plan is to implement a ceasefire in Gaza, rebuild the city and strengthen the administration there. This will be implemented through the Board of Peace. This board will guide the reconstruction and economic stability of Gaza.

America will become a medium of dialogue between Gaza and Israel

The plan will also include an international force, which will work to eliminate weapons and destroy military structures in Gaza. Its objective is to make Gaza safe and peaceful. The document says that if the Palestinian administration completes the reform program and Gaza is redeveloped, it will be easier for Palestine to create its own state. At the same time, America will also establish dialogue between Gaza and Israel, so that people on both sides can live in peace and prosperity.

Hamas opposed the proposal

Hamas has opposed this proposal. He says that this plan does not fulfill the rights and demands of the Palestinians. Hamas says that giving the international force the task of neutralizing armed groups in Gaza will not allow it to remain neutral and will side with Israel in the conflict.

Trump welcomed

President Trump called it a big success after the Security Council vote. He said this was an important step in world diplomacy and praised the countries that supported it. He called it one of the biggest approvals in the history of the United Nations.

Israel responded

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the proposal to create a state of Palestine. He said that work will be done to eliminate Gaza’s military power.

Whenever Pakistan raises the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in the United Nations, it faces defeat. When Pakistan once again raised the issue of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir in the UNSC, India’s Permanent Representative P. Harish slammed Pakistan. The Indian Embassy said that we appeal to Pakistan to end human rights violations in the areas under illegal occupation. Where the people are openly revolting against Pakistan’s military occupation, oppression, cruelty and illegal exploitation of resources.

Indian Ambassador Harish said, ‘I want to emphasize that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been and will always be an integral and inseparable part of India. The people of Jammu and Kashmir exercise their fundamental rights in accordance with the democratic traditions and constitutional framework of India. We certainly know that these concepts are alien to Pakistan.

Indian envoy mentioned Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam

The Indian envoy stressed India’s commitment to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, seeing the world as one family and advocating justice, dignity and prosperity for all. He said that this is not only the basis of our world view, but also the reason why India has consistently advocated justice, dignity, opportunity and prosperity for all societies and people.

Questions raised on the relevance of the United Nations

Addressing the open debate of the United Nations Security Council, the Indian Ambassador highlighted the contribution of the United Nations since the Second World War. He also talked about the questions arising regarding its relevance, validity, reliability and effectiveness.

Ambassador Harish said, ‘The topic of this debate has become very important at a time when the world’s largest multilateral organization (United Nations) is facing questions related to relevance, legitimacy, credibility and effectiveness.’ The Ambassador further explained how the organization has worked for the abolition of colonialism and has become a beacon of hope for international peace and security.

Shafi Burfat, president of Jay Sindh Muttahida Mahaj (JSMM), has written a letter to the global community. In this, he has accused Pakistan that he has been doing injustice to the local castes and communities (Sindhi, Pashtun, Baloch, Saraiki and Brahui) for the last several decades. He said that Pakistan suppresses these communities in the name of religious unity, marginalize and has been crushing their political rights.

Burfat wrote to the global leaders who participated in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in a letter, ‘When the Prime Minister of Pakistan and other representatives are going to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the world should question Pakistan’s truth. This country is made by pressing its historical communities with deception and manipulation in the name of religion.

He alleged that Pakistani officials are carrying out rigorous political repression, economic exploitation, cultural destruction, demographic manipulation and serious human rights violations on these ‘natives’. The JSMM leader claims that Pakistan is actually a country to serve the interests of a major caste (Punjabis).

He said, ‘Pakistani army, intelligence agencies and diplomatic parties are mainly Punjabi. More than 99 percent of their part keeps this one group dominating politically and socially. He wrote, ‘This whole center of power is in the hands of the same caste, which has created a system that Pakistan pushes all other historical communities into modern slavery and political oppression. Those who talk about secular politics, national movement or social justice have to face the sanctions imposed by the government.

The letter said that political activists, social workers and social media activists often arrest army and state agencies. They are tortured at secret locations, and sometimes their torture and burnt bodies are thrown into remote areas. Also, the cultural heritage, languages and history of these nations are deliberately broken or erased, which is a campaign of state sponsored dictatorship and cruelty.

He appealed to the global community that Pakistan should be considered as ‘a threat to the rights, culture and existence of historical residents’. He warned that without accountability Pakistan is to give a place in international forums to give validity to the system based on repression, exploitation and terror.

He asked the leaders and member countries of the UN Mahasabha to follow the principles of international justice, human rights and equality between nations. Along with this, demanded to support the freedom of oppressed nations and the legitimate fight between self -determination. The JSMM leader also said that Pakistan should be stopped from speaking on any reliable international platform due to its crime extremist terrorists support, training and deployment in the region under state policy.
