When the Strait of Hormuz was largely closed due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the US Naval blockade, the US used an old Iranian method to move crude oil shipments out of the Gulf area.

According to the Reuters report, in this secret method, oil is transferred directly from ship to ship. During this process, armed air and sea drones keep watch and the oil is transferred through shuttling technology. This is the same method that Iran has been using for many years to avoid sanctions.

92 ships have transferred oil secretly

According to the report, when shipping data and satellite images were reviewed, it was found that the process of transferring oil using this technique had started in the month of May and till now at least 92 ships have taken part in this secret oil transfer campaign. At the same time, the US military monitored such secret transfers to continue oil exports to the Gulf region, while the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remained very tense due to the blockade imposed by Iran.

How was oil transferred from ship to ship in the middle of the sea?

Although the global oil supply was greatly affected by the Strait of Hormuz after the US-Iran conflict, despite this the US Army continued the campaign of oil transfer using secret methods till this week. According to a Reuters report, satellite images released on June 11, 2026, showed 17 pairs of ships transferring oil simultaneously at two locations.

What were the two main places for oil transfer?

To complete this process successfully, two major places were selected where the activities taking place could not go unnoticed and out of the two places where this campaign was carried out, the first place was near the Fujairah coast of United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the second was the coastal area near Sohar Port of Oman. Both these places were near the boundaries determined by the Persian Gulf Strait Authority. This Iranian authority has the responsibility of management of the Strait of Hormuz.

Shahbaz Sharif said that preparations are underway to sign the agreement through electronic means. After this, technical level meetings will be organized next week, in which issues related to the implementation of the agreement will be discussed.

Levitt said that President Donald Trump has made his red line completely clear. Iran can never acquire a nuclear bomb to threaten America and its allies. He said that Iran will have to hand over the enriched uranium it has and America is currently waiting for Iran’s response.

According to Levitt, only President Trump could save the lives of the eight Iranian women who were to be executed. He told that the news of the hanging of these women had reached the President, after which he made a direct appeal. In response, Iran agreed not to execute him.

Iran stopped three ships

According to Tasnim news agency, Iran’s ‘Revolutionary Guards’ intercepted two ships ‘MSC Francesca’ and ‘Epaminondas’ and took them to Iranian territorial waters and started examining their cargo, documents and related records. According to the statement of the Revolutionary Guards, these ships were trying to leave the Strait of Hormuz when they were stopped. According to BBC report, another ship named ‘Euphoria’ was stopped after the firing.

Tension increased amid ceasefire
This development has happened at a time when President Trump has announced to extend the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely. Trump said on Tuesday that there are serious differences within the Iranian government. On the request of Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, America has decided to stop the attack on Iran, so that Iran can present a joint proposal. However, Trump also made it clear that America will back down from the attack only when Iran’s leadership puts forward a united proposal for talks.

Iran’s counterattack on blockade
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly criticized America. He said the blockade of Iranian ports is an “act of war” and a direct violation of the ceasefire.
It is noteworthy that this conflict with Iran started after the attacks by America and Israel on February 28, after which there has been continuous tension in the region.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said that until the war ends completely and permanent peace is established in the region, it will maintain its control and surveillance on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iranian media, this statement came when Iran’s main military command ‘Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters’ announced on Saturday (April 18, 2026) that due to the continuation of the US naval blockade, strict control was being re-introduced on the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the report of Xinhua news agency, SNSC said that it will ask for information from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, allow them to move, charge for security and environmental services and control the movement of ships in accordance with its rules and wartime arrangements. The Council will not allow a conditional and limited reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as long as the enemy continues to seek to obstruct shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and resort to methods such as naval blockade, which would constitute a violation of the (existing two-week) cease-fire.
