WHO Warns African Region Ebola Virus Risk: The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning on Friday regarding the Ebola outbreak spreading in South African countries. The organization’s Africa director has said that it would be wrong to underestimate the Ebola outbreak spread in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring Uganda. This outbreak can spread to other countries also. According to Reuters report, the organization’s Africa Director in Geneva, Mohammed Yacoub, has said that underestimating it is a big mistake. There is no vaccine for this virus called Bundibugyo.

Mohammad Yakub appealed to the people

He said that therefore I would really tell everyone that we should help each other. We can bring this under control. Attention is not being given here at the international level. Rather, more attention was paid to the Hantavirus outbreak. Its risk increases with contact. Let us take care of this.

Ebola is a deadly disease

Ebola is a serious and deadly disease. It spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected people, contaminated objects and dead bodies of people who have died from infection. Its symptoms include fever, body ache, vomiting and diarrhea. On Thursday, the DRC Health Ministry reported that the outbreak has resulted in 160 suspected deaths out of 670 suspected cases.

How long the Ebola outbreak may last cannot be estimated at this time.

Two cases have been confirmed in Uganda. Janabi has refused to speculate. That is, it cannot be told how long the current outbreak may last. Experts are taking the situation seriously. Due to people’s carelessness it has become difficult to control it. Efforts are ongoing to increase testing and prevent infection. During this, he told that there has also been an incident of burning of a tent used for the treatment of Ebola. Janabi has said that we are fighting on two fronts. In such a situation, epidemic experts have not identified the infected cases related to this outbreak.

Ebola Virus: The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the rapidly spreading Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda an international public health emergency. This infection is spreading due to Bundibugyo virus, which is considered a dangerous strain of Ebola virus.

This strain is different from the previously spread Zaire strain. The Bundibugyo strain first appeared in the Bundibugyo district of Uganda in 2007-2008. At that time this virus had infected more than 116 people and about 34 to 40 percent of the patients died. Now, for the 17th time, Ebola outbreak has occurred in Ituri province of DRC, but this time the concern has increased due to the different type of virus. The biggest challenge is that no specific vaccine or medicine is yet available for this strain.

Different strains of Ebola, but threat remains

According to experts, there are many types of Ebola virus, but large-scale infection in humans spreads mainly through Zaire, Sudan and Bundibugyo strains. The Zaire strain is considered to be the most deadly, with a mortality rate of 60 to 90 percent. Whereas Bundibugyo strain is considered relatively less fatal, but in this also 32 to 40 percent deaths have been recorded. In some cases this figure has reached 50 percent. Health experts say that the death rate can change depending on the patient’s age, health condition, availability of treatment and severity of the infection.

Virus spreads through forests

According to the report, this virus is naturally present in the dense tropical forests of DRC. Scientists believe that wild animals like bats can be the main source of this virus. This virus can spread very fast and can kill many people if timely treatment is not received.

flu like initial symptoms

The symptoms of all strains of Ebola are almost similar. Initially the patient feels high fever, headache, body and joint pain, weakness and fatigue. After a few days, problems like vomiting, diarrhea, stomach ache and sore throat start. As the disease progresses, bleeding starts from the eyes, gums and other parts of the body. In many cases, injury-like marks appear on the body and the patient starts having difficulty in breathing. In serious conditions, organs may stop functioning. Symptoms of infection may appear within 2 to 21 days.

How does Ebola virus spread?

Ebola virus spreads through direct contact with an infected person’s body fluids such as blood, vomit, diarrhea and saliva. The risk of infection remains high even when touching the dead body of a dead person or during rituals related to the last rites. However, this virus does not spread through air, water or insects.

No treatment, only care, support

There is currently no specific antiviral drug or vaccine available for the Bundibugyo strain. Treatment is mainly based on patient care. Doctors compensate for the deficiency of water and electrolytes in the patient’s body. Medicines for fever and pain are given. Antibiotics, oxygen support and blood transfusion are also done if needed. Experts say that if the patient is isolated in the hospital and treatment is started at the initial stage, then his chances of survival increase significantly.

WHO increased monitoring

WHO and local health agencies are emphasizing on identifying people who came in contact with infected people, isolating patients and ensuring safe funerals. The organization has said that instead of banning international travel, there is a need to increase screening, border monitoring and awareness. People coming from infected areas have been advised to be monitored for 21 days.

Increased concern in border areas

Experts say that security challenges exist in the areas bordering DRC and Uganda, which may affect investigation and control operations. Concern has increased due to some cases being reported in big cities like Kinshasa and Kampala. WHO has instructed all neighboring countries to remain alert. Although it is not considered a global epidemic at present, health agencies have appealed to people to exercise caution.

How Dangerous Is Hantavirus Compared To Covid: At present, discussion about Hanta virus is being seen everywhere. The big question is whether this virus can also spread as fast as Corona? Will infection occur just by touching and is the world moving towards a new epidemic again? Amidst all these questions, WHO has issued an alert and given important information about the situation.

What is the matter?

Actually, this case is related to the Dutch flag luxury cruise ship MV Hondius, where after a mysterious respiratory illness, Hanta virus infection has now been confirmed. So far, eight cases related to this ship have been reported, out of which Hanta virus has been confirmed in five people while three cases are considered suspicious. Three people have also died.

What does the World Health Organization say?

According to World Health Organization officials, the first infected person on the ship fell ill on April 6 and died on April 11. Initially, doctors did not suspect Hantavirus because its symptoms were like those of a common respiratory infection. For this reason even initial samples were not taken. Later, when other passengers also started falling ill, health agencies started investigating Hantavirus.

What do experts say?

World Health Organization’s infectious disease expert Dr Maria Van Kerkhove clearly said that this virus should not be compared with Corona. He said, “This is not SARS-CoV-2 and it does not spread in the same way. The infection is likely to spread only through very close and prolonged contact.” He also told that most Hantaviruses do not spread from person to person.

How does this virus spread?

Health experts say that Hanta virus usually spreads through contact with infected rats or their feces and urine. However, in this case, Andes strain is being suspected, which is a rare type of Hanta virus in which the ability to spread infection from person to person has been seen on a limited level. This is the reason why WHO is keeping a very close watch on this matter.

Read this also- Is it right to eat liver to overcome weakness? Know this truth before eating

Incubation period up to six weeks

WHO also said that the incubation period of Hanta virus can be up to six weeks. This means that symptoms may appear even several weeks after infection. For this reason, passengers are being monitored in many countries of the world. WHO has sent an alert to 12 countries where passengers had disembarked from the ship in St. Helena. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, experts from WHO, doctors from the Netherlands and a team from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control have reached the ship. This team is medically examining the passengers and trying to find out whether the infection spread inside the ship or whether people were already infected.

Although WHO is currently downplaying its risk worldwide, experts believe that staying together for a long time in closed places like cruise ships can increase the risk of spreading the infection. This is the reason why health agencies around the world are keeping a very vigilant eye on this matter.
