Both their father Kevin Curran was a player who played international cricket for Zimbabwe. He played 11 ODIs for Zimbabwe between 1983 and 1987. Ben Curran, elder brother of Sam Curran and younger than Tom Curran, is currently playing international cricket for Zimbabwe. Therefore, Curran’s family has also been very close to Zimbabwe cricket. The viral post featuring Sam Curran and Tom Curran read, “I can now confirm that former England cricketers Sam and Tom Curran have officially committed to play for Zimbabwe Cricket. So let us tell you that at present this claim is completely false, because no post or statement has been issued by both the players regarding this. It is also worth noting that both the players were not born in Zimbabwe, due to which both of them may not be immediately eligible to play international cricket for Zimbabwe.

If a person does not have Zimbabwean citizenship by birth, he must have completed at least four years of ordinary residence in Zimbabwe to be eligible for a contract with Zimbabwe Cricket.
