ICC Women World Cup 2025: The Indian women’s cricket team has suffered a major setback just before the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. The team’s trusted wicketkeeper-batsman Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out of the entire tournament and the ODI series against Australia due to knee injury. In his place Uma Chhetri of Assam has been included in Team India’s squad.

The BCCI released a press on Thursday and informed that Yastika Bhatia suffered left knee injuries during the Team India training camp held in Visakhapatnam. The medical team is constantly monitoring their situation. The board said in the statement, “The BCCI’s medical team is monitoring the progress of Yastika and wishes to recover soon.”

Uma Chhetri gets a big opportunity

After being out of Yastika, Uma Chhetri has suddenly got a place in the senior team of Team India. She was earlier part of the India-A team and was going to play in the World Cup practice match, but now she will be part of the main team directly due to Yastika’s injury and can play in the ODI series as well as the World Cup.

However, Uma Chhetri’s international career has not been very effective yet. He has played 7 T20 international matches for India, in which only 37 runs have been scored. During this time his highest score is 24 runs and the strike rate is less than 90. Now it has to be seen whether she is able to prove herself when she gets a chance in such a big tournament.

Crisis before busy schedule

India will play a three -match ODI series against Australia in Mullanpur from 14 September. After this, the team will play two practice matches in Bangalore and then on September 30, in Guwahati, the first World Cup will be played against fellow host Sri Lanka. In such a situation, the exit of Yastika is considered to be a big loss for the team, because she has been contributing significantly to both batting and wicketkeeping.

Experts believe that the lack of experienced players like Yastika can affect the balance of the team. At the same time, this opportunity for Uma Chhetri can prove to be a very big break for her career.

He has been replaced by another wicketkeeper batsman Uma Chhetri.

BCCI gave updates on Thursday and told that Yastika Bhatia sat in her knees while practicing in Visakhapatnam. He has been replaced by 23 -year -old wicketkeeper batsman Uma Chhetri in the World Cup squad. Uma has only 4 T20 matches experience so far, she has not made her ODI debut till now. Chhetri’s selection in the senior team means that they will not be part of the India A team for the Warm Up match.

The BCCI further stated in its statement, “Uma Chhetri is being included in the series and women’s ODI World Cup squad against Australia. She will no longer be a part of the India A squad, which is going to play a warm up match before the World Cup.” Chhetri does not have any experience of ODI matches, it is a matter of increasing concern for Team India.

India and Sri Lanka are going to host Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The World Cup will be played till 30 September-2 November, in which the initial match will be played between India and Sri Lanka. India and Pakistan will be played on 5 October.
