Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Yastika Bhatia, who became the first woman cricketer to score a Test century at the iconic Lord’s Stadium, believes her “best performance is yet to come”.

Bhatia scored 113 runs in 158 balls in the only Test match against England, after which India declared its second innings just before tea time on the third day and set a huge target of 457 runs for the hosts England.

Bhatia told reporters after the end of the third day’s play, “It (becoming the first woman cricketer to score a century at Lord’s) is unbelievable because six months ago I was in a completely opposite situation and if someone had said then that my name would be on the honors board at Lord’s, I would not have believed it.”

He said, “There is still better performance to be done than this.” I have always believed from the beginning that I can perform better than before. But the time so far has been really good. This is just the beginning. There is still a lot to come and I am eagerly waiting for it.

He credited his success to his family, teammates and support staff members, who helped him recover from a serious injury to his left knee suffered in October last year. She had to undergo surgery for this injury and could not play in the ODI World Cup played at home in which India was the winner.

Bhatia said, “There are many people working behind the scenes, my family, my father, mother, my sister, they have been the biggest support for me. My coach, the team support staff members here and my teammates all supported me.

He said, “Also the COE (BCCI’s Center of Excellence), where I spent a lot of time during the process of recovery from injury. All of them played important roles. Without them this would not have been possible.

Bhatia said that her passion for the game helped her maintain a positive mindset when she was out due to injury. He said, “After the surgery, I had to start from scratch. I had to take complete rest for two months. But I had confidence in myself that I could recover from this injury and make a comeback. No matter how many difficulties one faces, it is very important to have love for the game and faith in oneself.

Bhatia said about his century, “I did not think about scoring a century, but focused on scoring a big score at a good pace so that we get enough time to take his 10 wickets.” This is what was in my mind. It is a matter of great pride for me to play for the country.

She will no longer be a part of the India A squad, which is going to play a warm up match before the World Cup.” Chhetri does not have any experience of ODI matches, it is a matter of increasing concern for Team India.
