An unwanted record has been added to the name of the Indian team in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. In T20, records are usually made for hitting big sixes and taking a lot of wickets in bowling, but Team India has made a record for dropping catches. In fact, in the match against Bangladesh on Thursday, Indian fielders dropped three catches during the powerplay. This is the second time in this World Cup tournament that a team has dropped 3 catches within the powerplay and Team India has done so both times.
India dropped four catches
In the match against Bangladesh, India’s first catch was dropped in the third over. Shri Charani was bowling and on the fifth ball of the over, Yastika Bhatia dropped the catch of Juwairiya Firdous. Juwairiya Firdous once again got a lease of life on the last ball of the fourth over and this time she was caught by Radha Yadav. Let us tell you that Firdous was the top scorer of Bangladesh, who scored 33 runs.
Shri Charani came to bowl in the fifth over of the innings. There were 2 chances of catch on the second and third ball of this over and Nandini Sharma made a mistake both the times. The Indian team missed four catches in the powerplay.

This is the second time in this World Cup tournament that a team has dropped three or more catches within the powerplay. Team India has done this both the times. In the match against Pakistan, Indian fielders had dropped three catches in the first 6 overs and now they have dropped 4 catches in the powerplay against Bangladesh.
This is only the second time in the history of women’s T20 cricket that a team has dropped four catches in the first 6 overs. The first team to do this was Bangladesh, which dropped four catches within the first 6 overs in the match against Sri Lanka in April this year. India has now become the second country to do so.
