Food Inflation India: Retail inflation in India has increased from 3.21 percent in February to 3.40 percent in March. The reason behind this increase is said to be the rise in the prices of food items and beverages as well as the rise in energy prices.

The impact of the ongoing tension in West Asia has also been seen on people’s food plates. However, despite this increase, this figure remains below 4. Which is a matter of some relief for the common people.

Food items become expensive

Talking about the figures, food inflation has increased to the level of 3.87 percent in the month of March. In February this figure was 3.47 percent. This means that there has been an increase in the prices of food items used every day. Which is going to have a direct impact on the pockets of common people.

Talking about rural and urban figures, food inflation in villages has been recorded at 3.96 percent. Whereas in cities it is 3.71 percent. It is clear from this that the effect of inflation is being felt not only in cities but also in rural areas.

Central Bank Preparation

The Reserve Bank of India had recently decided not to make any changes in the repo rate. After this, inflation figures have been released. RBI had adopted a cautious stance in the meeting held on 8 April.

The central bank is especially keeping an eye on rising oil prices, because it can have a direct impact on the economy. Besides, RBI has also made it clear that if needed, it can take decisions to control excessive fluctuations in the currency.
