Many big changes are being implemented across the country and these will have a direct impact on the pockets and everyday life of common people. From petrol diesel to LPG Aadhaar, Railway Passport, Credit Card and vehicle prices, many rules are changing from the new month. To avoid any problem or extra expense, it is important to understand these changes in advance.
The ban on sale of petrol and diesel is being lifted
Due to the West Asia crisis, the government had imposed some temporary restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel on June 12. Under this, a limit of maximum 200 liters of diesel per day was fixed at retail pumps to every customer or vehicle. Also, big consumers associated with industry and business were asked to take oil from the designated consumer pumps instead of retail pumps. This step was taken to stop hoarding and black marketing.
Now the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued an order on June 29 and removed these restrictions from July 1. The ministry says that after reviewing the supply situation, it was found that these measures are no longer necessary. This means that the limit of 200 liters of diesel is ending and big consumers will again be able to buy oil in the normal way. According to the ministry, their return is a sign of improvement in supply and normalization of supply.
Prices of LPG, CNG and ATF may also change
On the first of every month, oil companies review the prices of gas and fuel. In such a situation, even on July 1, the prices of commercial LPG cylinders, CNG, PNG and airplane fuel ATF may increase or decrease. The prices of domestic LPG cylinders have remained stable in the last few months, so this time too everyone will keep an eye on the new prices.
Updating email in Aadhaar is now free
Unique Identification Authority of India i.e. UIDAI has given great relief to the common people. Now adding or changing email ID in Aadhaar has become free. Earlier, Rs 75 had to be paid for this service, but from July 1 to December 31, this facility will be absolutely free. This discount will be available only on the new Aadhaar mobile app. If you update your email through any other method, you will have to pay the full fee. Along with this, the old mAadhaar app is being discontinued and in its place a new Aadhaar app has been introduced which has more security and easy-to-use features.
Getting a passport now more expensive than before
The Ministry of External Affairs has increased the passport fees. This change has happened under the Passport Amendment Rules 2026 issued on June 20 and is coming into effect from July 1. This is the first major change in passport fees after about fourteen years.
Now the fee for 36-page ordinary passport has increased from Rs 1500 to Rs 2500 and its Tatkal fee has increased from Rs 3500 to Rs 5000. At the same time, the fee for ordinary passport with 60 pages has been increased from Rs 2000 to Rs 3500 and the Tatkal fee has been increased from Rs 4000 to Rs 6000. Now you will have to pay more for getting your passport renewed, for lost or damaged passports and for police clearance certificates as well as passports for minors. However, there is no change in the validity of the passport and the passport of elders will remain valid for ten years as before.
Traveling by train without ticket will now be expensive
From July 1, the minimum fine for traveling without a ticket or without a valid ticket will increase from Rs 250 to Rs 500. This change has been made in Section 137 and 138 of the Railway Act 1989 under the Public Trust Amendment Act 2026. Railways says that this step has been taken to stop ticketless travel and to tighten ticket checking. The maximum punishment given by the court will remain the same as before, which can be jail up to six months or a fine of Rs 1000 or both.
Changes in credit card rules also
SBI Card: The reward point rules of select PhonePe SBI Credit Cards are changing from July 1, which will affect some cardholders. At the same time, the rules of HDFC Bank’s Regalia Gold Credit Card are also changing. Now to avail the free domestic airport lounge facility on this card, you will have to spend at least Rs 60,000 in the last quarter, that is, those who use this card for travel benefits will now have to fulfill the condition.
Buying cars will also be expensive
The beginning of July can be difficult for people thinking of buying a new car. Tata Motors is increasing the prices of its petrol, diesel and electric vehicles by 1.5 percent from July 1. The company is also increasing the prices of its commercial vehicles by 2.5 percent. Apart from this, Kia India is also increasing the prices of all its vehicles by 2 percent from July 1. Both the companies have cited the rising cost of raw materials and inflation as the reason for this.
An important thing regarding income tax return
In many places, income tax returns are also being counted among the rules that will be changed from July 1, but this is not correct. No rule or date related to income tax return is changing on July 1. The work of filing returns for assessment year 2026-27 is already underway. The last date for salaried and unaudited taxpayers is 31 July. This date is 31st August for unaudited businesses and 31st October for audited cases. Therefore, do not delay in filing the return so that you can avoid fines and troubles later.
New rule for those with both LPG and PNG connections
The government had given a time limit of 90 days for those consumers who have connections of both LPG cylinder and piped gas i.e. PNG. This deadline is ending on June 30 and such people were asked to shift to PNG.
This rule can be implemented on the ground from July 1, although it is important to keep in mind that till now no government announcement has been made to immediately stop the gas supply to those having both the connections. Therefore, there is no need to panic, it will be better to update your connection in time.
Overall, many small and big changes are being implemented simultaneously from July 1. Some of these will increase the burden on your pocket while some will also provide relief. In such a situation, it is better to know these rules in advance and complete your important work on time.
