Responding to the debate under Rule 293 on the development of Mumbai and surrounding cities, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday launched a strong attack on the opposition in the Assembly. In his address to the House, he launched a scathing attack on the opposition and reiterated Jayant Rao Patil’s point.

He told Abu Azmi, “Ajami sir, our Jayant Rao ji said the right thing that those who do not ask for a dog, these days they come on social media and abuse everyone. They even abuse the Chief Minister. Some such hired ponies were also writing about this missing link on social media by taking money.”

‘If you insult Maharashtra, I will not leave’

He further said, “I also want to tell those who were writing on social media that if you insult Maharashtra, I will not leave you.” He also defended the project and called it a brilliant global example of engineering.

Taking a strong stand amid trolling and allegations of corruption on social media following the recent landslide on the Mumbai-Pune ‘Missing Link’ Expressway, CM Fadnavis described himself as ‘abuse proof’.

Why did the controversy start regarding missing link?

The project, which cost Rs 7,000 crore and was recently launched, triggered a landslide due to heavy rains, halting traffic for about 18 hours and triggering political allegations. The opposition immediately targeted the Mahayuti government and accused it of corruption as well as structural flaws. Responding to this sharp criticism, Chief Minister Fadnavis, without any hesitation, accused the opposition leaders of telling lies.

He said, “The issue of Pune-Mumbai connecting link was raised due to heavy rains. Such blatant liars have been born. It seems that they must have been born after the death of one crore liars.” He told that the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government had almost scrapped this project.

He said, “The Chief Minister of the previous government had written a two-page note giving 14 reasons why ‘Missing Link’ could not be made and had closed the file. But the Mahayuti government had the courage, that is why we made it.” Chief Minister Fadnavis rejected claims that the structural strength of the project was compromised or that public money was ‘wasted’. He told the House the reality of the incident.

Missing link broken due to falling debris- CM

The CM said, “Due to heavy rains, mountain debris fell on the outer arch, which broke under the pressure. There are no cracks in the main structure. The integrated safety system of the tunnel worked excellently. Heavy cranes reached the spot within three minutes of pressing the emergency button.”

Chief Minister Fadnavis targeted ‘paid trollers’ on social media and along with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized on the achievements of his administration. He said, “It is okay to say bad things about Devendra Fadnavis. I am used to it. These things have no effect on me. I have learned one thing in life, 10 years from now, the people who are saying bad things today may not be visible, but the ‘connecting link’ will remain, and the names of Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde will be on it. You can defame me as much as you want, but if you defame Maharashtra, I will not blame anyone. I will not spare.
