There is a lot of stir these days in the politics of West Bengal. After the assembly elections, news of a major split in TMC came to light. Many MPs and MLAs separated from the party. In such an environment, the discussion about Mahua Moitra also intensified whether she too can join BJP. These speculations got further fueled when Mahua Moitra praised Shubhendu Adhikari. After this, questions started being raised in political circles whether Mahua can also distance herself from Mamata Banerjee. Now Mahua Moitra herself has openly responded to these discussions. When she was asked in an interview to BBC Hindi whether she would ever join BJP, she clearly rejected these speculations.

Mahua Moitra said that she has dedicated a large part of her youth and life to enter politics. His aim is to work for an India where people of all religions live together. He said that his dream was that India which was secular and would take everyone along. Taking aim at BJP, he said that the party has promoted communalism in the country. Mahua said that she will oppose it till her last breath and will continue the fight against BJP as long as she is alive. In the same interview, Mahua Moitra also remembered her old relationship with Shubhendu Adhikari. He told that when both were in the same party, Shubhendu had supported him a lot.

Mahua Moitra mentioned Shubhendu Adhikari

Mahua said that when she was contesting elections from Karimpur, only Shubhendu Adhikari had come to campaign for her. Whenever he needed any help, Shubhendu used to help him. He also mentioned the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Mahua told that at that time he was hopeful that the party would give him the ticket, but later he did not get the ticket. Because of this she kept crying the whole night. Only Shubhendu Adhikari supported him in that difficult time. He told Mahua not to worry, I am there. However, Mahua clarified that today both are in different parties and now there are no talks. When political discussion intensified on her statement, Mahua Moitra also gave clarification. He said that some parts of his recent interview were misrepresented.

UCC targets BJP

Meanwhile, Mahua Moitra also made a scathing attack on the BJP government regarding the Uniform Civil Code i.e. UCC. He alleged that the BJP government is doing politics of fear and pressure. Mahua says that efforts are being made to weaken the opposition through divisive and strict policies. After the meeting held at Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence, Mahua said while talking to the media that the BJP government wants to weaken the Trinamool Congress at the grassroots level. He alleged that Trinamool workers were being prevented from holding meetings and rallies so as to weaken the party’s hold.
