If you are taking any kind of scholarship or fellowship, then now you need to be a little cautious. UGC has implemented a new rule related to payment, under which now the money will come only in the account which is linked to Aadhaar. This means that now it may be difficult to get money without linking Aadhaar.
What is the new rule?
UGC has decided that now all scholarships and fellowships will be paid through Aadhaar-Based Payment (ABP) system. This means that the money will be sent directly to the bank account linked to Aadhaar. This system has been implemented under DBT, so that students can get money directly and safely.
What will the students have to do?
Now all students will have to update their information by visiting Scholarship and Fellowship Management Portal (SFMP). The most important thing is to link your Aadhaar number with your bank account and update it on the portal. If you have not done this yet, then do it quickly, because without this, further scholarship may stop.

Pay attention to deadlines
UGC has given time till 15 April 2026 for this work. That means, before this date, you will have to complete your Aadhaar link and update. After this, nodal officers have been instructed to check and approve the Aadhaar details of all the students by 20 April 2026. So that payment can be made on time in the next financial year 2026–27. If you do not link your Aadhaar by the stipulated time, then your scholarship or fellowship money may get stuck.
The rule has already been implemented
Some universities like Pondicherry University and Allahabad University have already implemented this rule. This has already been made mandatory especially for the students taking UGC-NET fellowship. Now it is being implemented in the entire country.
How to update?
If you do not understand how to do it, then a complete step-by-step guide has been given on the SFMP portal. You can easily update your Aadhaar by seeing it. If needed, you can also ask for help on the related email.
