This story, which came from an ordinary colony of Chennai, is giving courage to the youth of the entire country today. Subramania Bharti, son of a father who worked on a daily wage basis in a brick manufacturing factory, passed the Civil Services Examination in the first attempt.
Subramaniam Bharti’s childhood was spent in poverty. There were not many facilities at home, but there was always dedication towards studies. His father would leave for work every morning and return late in the evening. The mother would take care of the house and encourage her son to study. Money was less, but expectations were high.
He tells that he had decided at the age of 18 that he wanted to join civil service. At that time he did not even know properly how to prepare, which books to read, and what was the path.
This scheme was very useful
It was here that a scheme of the Tamil Nadu government made his path easier. Naan Mudhalvan Scheme gave them the right direction, guidance and resources. Under this scheme, they got mentors, the right way to study and also got the necessary materials for competitive examinations. This support proved to be very big for him.

What does Subramaniam Bharti say?
Subramaniam Bharti says that my journey has been no less than a miracle. Getting success in the first attempt is like a dream for me. This scheme and coaching center helped me a lot in my preparation. The atmosphere of his house was always simple. There was no separate room for studies, but there was a corner where he would study till late night. Many times, if the power went out, we would continue our studies with the help of mobile light. Attention is not broken even amidst the noise of the neighborhood.
Parents’ trust becomes strength
The trust of his parents became his biggest strength. Father never told me to do a job or take care of the house. He always said, study, move forward, we are together. The mother prayed every day that her son’s dream be fulfilled. They believe that this is a platform from where villages, poor and needy people can be helped.
He got 778th rank in the examination. He wants to work for those families who live in the same struggle as him. When the news of success came on the result day, there was an atmosphere of happiness in the house. Neighbors, relatives, everyone came to congratulate. There were tears in the father’s eyes, but pride was clearly visible on his face. This happiness cannot be expressed in words.
