US Iran Peace Talks in Pakistan: The fortification of Islamabad is not just a security arrangement, but a symbol of the uncertainty in which the entire world is standing at this time. The city has been placed under unprecedented security ahead of high-stakes peace talks between the US and Iran. But the real story is not just about the security arrangements, but about the pressure under which Pakistan is finding itself in a “mission impossible” situation.
There is silence on the streets of Islamabad, barricades have been installed on all the roads under the shadow of bayonets, but activities are intense inside. The Red Zone has been completely sealed, the five-star Serena Hotel has been taken under government control and reserved only for foreign delegations. Barricades, checkpoints and heavy security deployment in the city clearly show that Pakistan is in no mood to take any risk. The airspace has been kept under the highest level of security. Important meetings are continuing, all other activities have been stopped in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Saturday’s talks will decide the future of global peace.
The US delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, has arrived, while senior Iranian leaders have already reached Islamabad. There is a possibility of face-to-face talks between the two countries on Saturday and this is the moment where the real test of Pakistan will begin.
Analysts believe that for Pakistan this is not just mediation but also a fight to save its international reputation. Kamran Bokhari, senior fellow at the Middle East Policy Council, warned, “If the war leads to chaos, weakening of the government in Iran and increased instability, especially in the Sistan-Baluchistan region, it will be a very bad situation for Pakistan, because its western front is already unstable.”
Not only this, he also said, “Iran knows that Pakistan is an ally of America, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and China. Therefore, they have no option but to work with Pakistan… Pakistan cannot succeed unless both sides work closely with it.”
Surveillance of Pakistani airspace also increased
Security arrangements in Islamabad are far beyond the normal VVIP protocol. Airspace surveillance has been increased, hospitals and emergency services have been put on high alert. Holiday has been declared in many parts of the city so that the movement of common people can be reduced.
The reason behind this is also serious. Pakistan’s internal security situation has deteriorated in recent months. The suicide attack in Islamabad in February 2026 had increased the concern of security agencies. After this, tensions with Afghanistan increased further, where military clashes also took place between the two countries.
Underlining this danger, Kamran Bokhari said, “If we look at the statistics, the recent report says that Pakistan has the highest number of terrorist incidents in the world… so it would be wrong to say that there is no danger.”
Global impact: Why is this dialogue important?
This conversation is not limited to just America and Iran. This can have a direct impact on the global economy. If an agreement is reached, important sea routes like the Strait of Hormuz can be fully reopened, which will normalize oil supply. But if the talks fail, tensions in West Asia may increase further, the impact of which will be felt from oil prices to global markets.
Professor Hassan Dawood of Bahria University expressed hope, “I think a lot of efforts will have to be made to reduce the distrust that exists between the two countries… Not only Pakistan but the whole world will have to play a role in this. We are hoping that it will yield positive results.”
