Assembly Election 2026: Amid two-phase assembly elections in West Bengal later this month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address four public meetings in the state on Wednesday, which coincides with the Bengali New Year day.

Home Minister Shah’s scheduled programs will begin with a public meeting at Lobong Maidan in Darjeeling district at 11:30 am on Wednesday, followed by three other public meetings at Rajganj in Jalpaiguri district at 1 pm, Falakata in Alipurduar district at 2:30 pm and Tufanganj in Cooch Behar district at 4 pm.

Meanwhile, less than 24 hours before the Union Home Minister’s scheduled rally in Falakata on Wednesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and sitting MLA from the constituency was attacked on Tuesday night allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers, led by Trinamool Congress-led Falakata-II. Gram Panchayat head Ravi Minj and his associates did it.
The alleged attack took place when Burman was campaigning door-to-door, when Minz and his associates attacked Burman and his associates with sticks, following which Burman’s driver was seriously injured.
However, the local Trinamool Congress leadership denied these allegations. Meanwhile, instead of addressing any public meeting on Wednesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will address two road shows in Siliguri and Mal in North Bengal.
Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will preside over the organizational meeting.
On the other hand, Trinamool Congress general secretary and party’s Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee will chair an important organizational meeting in his Lok Sabha constituency Diamond Harbor on Wednesday. He held a virtual meeting with various levels of Trinamool Congress leaders on Tuesday, where he issued a strong message advising everyone to work together and avoid infighting for the upcoming assembly elections.
Assembly elections in West Bengal will be held in two phases on 23 April and 29 April. In the first phase, voting will be held for a total of 152 assembly constituencies, which are mainly spread across the entire North Bengal and parts of South Bengal.
In the second phase, voting will be held for the remaining 142 constituencies, which are mainly spread in the state capital Kolkata and its surrounding districts.
