Before the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Election Commission has adopted a different method this time to show strictness. To maintain peace and prevent disturbances, the District Election Officer of South Kolkata issued a special message on the social media platform ‘X’, which caught the attention of the people.
Adhikari shared the video of the famous song Hum Pyar Karne Waale Duniya Se Na Darne Wale from the 1990 film Dil. Through this song he tried to convey that just as in this song people are not afraid of anyone, similarly the Election Commission is also engaged in its work without worrying about any pressure or criticism. He clearly said that the only objective of the Commission is to conduct peaceful and fair elections in the state.

Strict warning to anti-social elements
Along with this, he gave a strict warning to anti-social elements and troublemakers. He said in a funny but strict manner that those who are thinking of causing violence or disturbance in the elections, should keep stock of ‘Burnol’ and ‘Boroline’ in advance. What he clearly meant was that if someone did something wrong, the security forces would take such strict action that they might even get hurt and would then need medical attention.
The officer also said that all voters have the full right to vote without fear. He appealed to the people to vote openly and not be influenced by any kind of pressure or fear. He also assured that the Election Commission is paying full attention to these things. There will be no violence, no threats, no luring, nor will fake voting or booth capturing be allowed.
Meaning of Burnol and Boroline
The use of the word ‘burnol’ in the statement particularly attracts attention. Nowadays it is used as a joke in social media, when someone is very jealous of something. The name of ‘Boroline’ is special because it is very popular in Bengal and is used in almost every house. Therefore, through these two words, the officer gave a message which would be directly understandable to the people and would have an impact.
In fact, during the last elections in West Bengal, incidents like violence, booth capturing and threats have been coming to the fore. For this reason, this time the Election Commission has decided to be more strict than before. A large number of central forces have been deployed in the state so that there are no disturbances during voting.
Election Commission’s signal
The statement is also considered very important politically. Even though no party was named, experts believe that this message is for those who try to disrupt the elections. Also, the use of such direct and slightly sarcastic language by a government official has also become a topic of discussion. This time the Election Commission wants to give a clear signal that the elections will be peaceful under any circumstances.
