Started career with this work
Dhirubhai started his career as a petrol station attendant. He went to the British colony Aden, where he earned the first income of his career while working. At the age of only 17, he reached Aden with big dreams. There he worked at A. Besse & Company and learned the ins and outs of business. Later, while working at a petrol station, he got about Rs 300 as his first salary.
Returned to India and started business
When he returned to India in 1958, he started his first company, Reliance Commercial Corporation, which dealt in spices. After that in 1962, he entered the yarn business and after three years changed the name of the company to Reliance Textiles Industries Limited. Despite studying only till tenth standard, Dhirubhai built a huge business empire on his own, which is known all over the world today. Dhirubhai often spent time with big businessmen to learn business and get new ideas. He used to go to expensive restaurants and have tea, so that he could network with people.
