Tamil Nadu Government Formation: The political deadlock regarding government formation after the elections in Tamil Nadu is deepening. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has made it clear to Vijay that his party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) does not yet have the required majority to form the government.
What option does Vijay have?
TVK has emerged as the largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, but is short of the required figure of 118 for majority. Despite getting the support of 5 Congress MLAs, the party still needs more allies. For this reason, TVK has sought support from Left parties, VCK and IUML and these parties can clarify their stand in the next two days.
VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said that his party will take the decision only after taking the stand of the Left parties. TVK leader CTR Kumar Communist Party of India K. M. Veerapandian and marxist communist party K. P. Met Shanmugam and sought support. He stressed that Vijay has already made it clear that power sharing is necessary so that allies can implement their respective policies and ideologies.
How will the data be collected?
According to Kumar, TVK has Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi (VCK) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) through email and formal letter requesting support. He expressed confidence that the party will be successful in forming the government in Tamil Nadu. He also clarified that TVK has not approached the NDA and has no intention of doing so. Whereas Congress, which has won 5 seats, has already announced its support to TVK.
Kumar said that as per constitutional tradition the Governor should invite the largest party to form the government. He claims that the mandate is in favor of TVK and on this basis Vijay should get the opportunity to become the Chief Minister.
Who should get the first chance?
On the other hand, Congress, Left parties and VCK have targeted the Governor and said that being the largest party, Vijay should get a chance to form the government. DMK led by MK Stalin has also appealed to its allies to remain in the alliance.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that the entire process of government formation will be done in a constitutional manner and the Governor will take decisions as per the rules. That is, the situation in Tamil Nadu currently remains uncertain. Now everyone’s eyes are on whether Vijay is able to garner the necessary support or a new political equation is formed in the state.
