Who appealed to the voters to defeat Congress in Karnataka, said- I will remember till my death

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Central Parliamentary Committee member and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa reached Davangere South on Tuesday to campaign for the assembly by-election. Addressing a meeting of party workers, he launched a scathing attack on the state government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Yediyurappa accused the Chief Minister of ‘cheating and betrayal’ and said that the present government is engaged in ‘loot in broad daylight’. He claimed that the people of Bagalkot and Davanagere will together decide to remove Siddaramaiah from power in the upcoming elections.

Taking aim at the use of money in elections, he said that those contesting elections by spending crores of rupees should be taught a lesson. He appealed to the party workers to fully support BJP candidate Srinivas Daskariappa and work to ensure his victory.

He also made allegations of corruption and said that funds have been diverted towards Telangana, while huge amounts are being distributed to influence voters in Bagalkot and Davanagere. He also accused the Congress government of closing many schemes for the benefit of the poor which were started during the tenure of BJP.

Referring to his age and dedication, Yediyurappa said that even at the age of 85, he has come to campaign, but cannot go everywhere. He called upon the workers to take responsibility of the campaign themselves and work as candidates from the next day. He said, ‘If you do this, I will remember you till my last breath.’

Yediyurappa said that people are upset with the misgovernance of the Congress government and appealed to the voters to respond by making the BJP candidate victorious in the by-elections.

At the same time, former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai alleged that tax terror has started in the state after Siddaramaiah became the Chief Minister again. Speaking to the media, he criticized the huge increase in the prices of liquor, milk and electricity in the government’s first budget.

He said taxes have been increased in almost all sectors including stamp duty, land prices and motor vehicle tax. He alleged, “In the last three years, this government has imposed new taxes worth Rs 60,000 crore on the people.”

Bommai also claimed that the government has taken a new loan of about Rs 5 lakh crore, calling Siddaramaiah a ‘record borrower’. He said, ‘We have never seen such a corrupt government before.’

He alleged that registration does not happen in Bengaluru without bribe and there is corruption in government rice distribution also. He also alleged corruption in the purchase of medicines for hospitals, Tehsildar offices and ministers’ offices.

He said that corruption is starting from the Chief Minister’s office itself and alleged that transfers have become a big industry and the administration has completely broken down.

Bommai said that the government is burdening the people through corruption and he is confident that the people will bless the BJP.
