IPL 2026 Update: Giving information about this entire controversy, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that KSCA had gone against the rules and demanded thousands of extra tickets. According to the protocol, only 15% free tickets are given to any state association, but in Bengaluru this demand had increased beyond limits.
Insistence on free tickets spoiled the game
Karnataka Cricket Association had sent an email to the board asking for about 10,000 extra free tickets. This demand was not made for any general public, but to please the government officials, ministers and MLAs. The board says that IPL is a professional league and this kind of ‘political ticketing’ or VIP culture cannot be promoted in it. When BCCI refused to accept this demand, the dispute escalated and ultimately the hosting was snatched from Bengaluru.

Now where and when will the playoff matches be held?
After the final match was removed from Bengaluru, now the new schedule of the knockout matches of IPL 2026 has also been revealed. Now the grand finale to be held on 31st May will be held in Ahmedabad. New venues have been selected for other playoff matches:
Qualifier-1: Will be played on 26th May on the beautiful grounds of Dharamshala.
Eliminator: Will be held on 27th May at Mullanpur Stadium in Punjab.

Qualifier-2: Will be played on 29th May in Mullanpur only.
Final: Will be held in Ahmedabad on 31st May.
BCCI has given a clear message that only those cricket associations who will follow the rules and maintain the dignity of the game will get the responsibility of big matches. This is really disappointing for the fans of Bengaluru because despite it being the home ground of RCB, they will not get a chance to watch the final in their city. This mistake of KSCA has broken the hearts of thousands of fans in the state.
