Recently, a problem came to light on the CBSE revaluation portal when suddenly unusual activities were recorded in the payment system. Some students found the fees to be very low, while others found the amount to be very high. After this incident, questions were raised about the security of the system.
Is student data at risk?
Now the biggest question is whether the personal data of the students like name, address, phone number and Aadhar number can be leaked due to this incident. According to experts and cyber security analysts, at present there is no confirmation that the personal data of any student has been leaked. The problem that has come to light is mainly said to be related to the payment gateway and fee display system.
Important thing revealed in conversation with cyber expert
In conversation with ABP Live cyber expert Rahul Mishra Said that if there are “loopholes” i.e. security vulnerabilities in any website, then there is always a risk of data leak. But this does not mean that data is stolen every time. If the system is updated and security audited from time to time, the major threat is reduced to a great extent.
How often are security checks conducted?
According to the information, cyber security check of government and big digital portals is usually done every 6 months. In this investigation, the weaknesses of the system are found and rectified so that any kind of cyber attack can be prevented.
What is the role of CERT-In?
India’s cyber security agency CERT-In issues alerts and guidance in such cases. This agency keeps an eye on cyber attacks, data leaks and system weaknesses and gives necessary guidelines.

How big is the real danger?
Cyber experts believe that the risk of data leak is serious only when the entire database or server is hacked. At present, the indications that have been received only point towards irregularities in the payment system and transaction level. Therefore, it is too early to call it a “data leak”, but the risk cannot be completely ignored.
How many students were affected?
According to the information revealed so far, the fee amount appeared wrong in the accounts of about 50 students. Some showed too little amount and some too much amount, due to which technical instability in the system was clearly visible.
CBSE and technical teams are jointly investigating the entire system. A team of IIT experts is also involved in this matter to find out whether it was a technical glitch or a cyber attack. Apart from this, the process of further strengthening the system and increasing security is also going on.
