Jamia Millia Islamia, a quiet campus spread in Okhla amidst the crowded streets of New Delhi. Today this name is not just a symbol of a university, but an idea, a struggle and a legacy. Every year its foundation day is celebrated on 29 October. But very few people know that Jamia did not begin with a beautiful building, but with movement, sacrifice and silent hopes burning in small rooms.
The year was 1920, the country was boiling in the fight for independence. The voices against British rule had become louder. At that time, some students and teachers in Aligarh were worried that the pressure of the British government on education was increasing. He wanted education to move forward with independence, patriotism and one’s own values. From this thinking was born Jamia Millia Islamia, a university that stands on its own feet, follows its own principles and becomes a home of education for every section of the society.
