Know what is the biggest difference between IIT and IIIT, in which college you will get a better career and how will the admission be done?

IIT i.e. Indian Institute of Technology is among the most prestigious government engineering institutes of the country. There are 23 IITs across India, where studies are conducted in many engineering branches including mechanical, civil, electrical, chemical, computer science. In these institutes, special emphasis is given to research, innovation, modern labs, excellent faculty and strong placements. This is the reason why IIT degree gets a lot of respect both in the country and abroad.

Indian Institute of Information Technology mainly offers courses related to Computer Science, IT, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and new digital technology. There are 26 IIITs in the country, some of which are completely government while many run on the public-private partnership model. If you are interested in coding, software development or technology sector, then IIIT can prove to be a good option for you.

Core engineering, research and many types of engineering branches are available in IIT. At the same time, the entire focus of IIIT remains on subjects related to information technology and computers. IIT campuses are generally large and their international identity is also strong. On the other hand, IIITs prepare students according to the industry needs and focus more on skill development in the technology sector.

Every year, big companies from India and abroad come to IIT for campus placement and many students also get packages worth crores of rupees. At the same time, top IIIT students also get great job opportunities in IT and software companies. The average annual package here is usually seen between Rs 10 to 20 lakh. If your goal is core engineering then IIT is a better option, whereas if you want to make a career in software and AI sector then IIIT can be a good choice.

For admission in both IIT and IIIT, a candidate must have passed 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Maths subjects. To get admission in IIT, one has to first pass JEE Main and then JEE Advanced exam. After this, seat is allotted through JoSAA counselling.

Whereas in most IIITs, admission is based on the rank of JEE Main. Some institutes also adopt their own separate admission process. Due to limited seats in IIT, competition is very high here.
