Now name will be visible on calls coming from unknown number! The new Caller ID facility of TRAI and DOT will reduce fraud.

Now if you get a call from an unknown number, there is no need to panic! Soon the caller’s name will appear on your mobile screen — that too without any third-party app. Telecom Regulator TRAI and Department of Telecom (DOT) have jointly taken this step to prevent cases like fraud, threats and financial frauds through mobile calls. In this new facility, the same name of the caller will be visible which he had given in his ID proof while getting the SIM card. That means this data will come directly from the official records of the telecom companies. This will be the default service, but if a user does not want his name to be visible to others, he will be able to deactivate it. TRAI had already tested this system in Mumbai and Haryana circles. However, customers who have turned on the Calling Line Identification Restriction (CLIR) feature — such as government officials, intelligence agency personnel and VIPs — will not see the name when a call is made to their number. This new system is a big step towards making mobile networks secure and transparent.
